Speaking of hatred for the truth, seems that threat against that poor misunderstood woman, Anita Sarkeesian, during her talk at USU wasn't much of a threat.

1) Government doesn't need to profit, it just needs to pay its debt. 2) As opposed to the subsequent global recession where assets weren't seized in the name of the common good and millions of people became homeless? 3) It really sounds like you own stock in these financial institutions. 4) The government would be acting well within existing laws to dissolve the corporate charter of any of these institutions and continue their operations as a government entity. There is actually a stronger argument against the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) then there is against the nationalization of _any_ business. 5) Well, as long as you have a bogeyman, we wouldn't want to impact the lifestyles of people that drive Italian sports cars and snort coke off hookers boobs.

No. Building your business around the predatory loans that were given to people that couldn't possibly pay them off was foolish; your home is the best investment you can possibly make as it's really an investment in yourself and your quality of life. The question that needs to be asked is what is so bad about nationalizing the "too big to fail" banks and using the profits to pay for the houses that were foreclosed on to keep people in their houses?

As far as anti-communist, pro-'Murica propaganda goes, this is terrible. It needs more black people oppressing white people to spread it's message to the good Christians of America.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism part 2
pseudonymous replied to Tale's topic in Way Off-Topic
If the wonderful human being in the following not quite safe for work video, castigating a man in Toronto who dared visit a seminar on the parental rights of men last year, didn't put an end to modern "feminism" than Ms. Quinn won't do any harm either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvYyGTmcP80&t=2m47s Equality, what's that? That IS how women talk about other women. -
Your logical fallacy is: Appeal to emotion. You're not going to hear about men other than Phil Fish (lol) leaving the industry or their reasons for doing so, because the people blogging about "misogynistic harassment" don't want you thinking along those lines. They don't want you to think about the incredibly high turn over rate in the industry for both genders because it doesn't fit their rhetoric.
-
The problem with that is that the people in question are not feminists. Feminism, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. Laudable and worthy goals, however, in the shamelessly self-promoting, narcissistic messages of the people in question those goals cannot be found. These people are doing more harm than good by putting off others that would agree with most of what they say. Disclaimer: I have a **** and am therefore a misogynistic rapist whose views are clearly shaped by, and supportive of, the patriarchy.

I'm fairly certain these items are found in maps you visit while doing the main quest, however the point I was making is that the only reason to visit most of the wilderness maps is for the XP from the boring combat with random trash mobs. Obsidian has already said they aren't putting in more wilderness areas so the incredibly underwhelming and unrewarding exploration of Baldur's Gate shouldn't be a problem with PoE.
-
Except exploring those areas only rewarded you with mindless combat from the boring trash mobs. BG itself is just as linear as Icewind Dale but requires you to leave the tracks to engage in the mindless combat with the boring trash mobs because there simply isn't enough quest experience to level your party. I disagree (mostly) - there were a fair few mini-quests (Ulcaster Dungeon, Firewine, Melicamp etc) that arose from wandering off the main quest path. And the rewards were also more than the fighting and xp (items, weapons, armour, the sense of fulfillment that comes from helping a chicken in need). The only item I can think of that is worth a specific trip off the beaten path is the Scroll of Cloudkill, you get better weapons and armor from the bandit camps during the main quest.

Racism?
pseudonymous replied to begginfokillz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Frankly I'm tired of the subtle approach to racism in games which is the "pointy-eared" nonsense you mention. I want a member of my party to be kidnapped and murdered by a mob of bigots because he whistled at a woman of a different race. -
Too many people are hung up on balance. The most memorable experiences that can be had in games (outside of story) come from entirely unbalanced encounters that result in your party being wiped out or finding that sweet spot of skill/weapon combination that results in one-shotting every enemy on the screen.

Actually the real charm in NWN2 came from the scrolls of resurrection that sat in your inventory unused during an incredibly ironic cut-scene where everyone explained just how much they cared about the character they had just allowed to die. It was a heartwarming moment of chaotic evil narcissism from a neutral good character, there was nothing awkward about it at all.

Obsidian Project to be announced at GDC 2014
pseudonymous replied to C2B's topic in Obsidian General
The threesome with the M1A2 and T-90 does it every time. -
As long as my copy requires me to login to Origin to access a launcher which starts up Uplay which leads to a Steam launcher that installs Securom which protects the Starforce protected executable, I'm good with it.

Right... because only a Korean could notice the obvious discrepancies in the Olympic judging that are indicative of corruption that has been a part of public knowledge since 2002.
-
Nah, Canada played like ****, they just got lucky. It's not figure skating or ice dancing where you win medals because you've paid the judges to ignore the number of times you've fallen on your ass.
-
They missed a shot at the open net by an inch, that's not losing to the better team. Thankfully, tomorrow is the important game.

"Internet Trolls Really are Horrible People"
pseudonymous replied to rjshae's topic in Way Off-Topic
Nope. Trolling is just willful deception it can serve a purpose or not: I am disappointed that a thread about trolling doesn't mention these guys, though. They are the world's greatest trolls, having tanked Dow Chemical's stock value, been interviewed by CNBC in character, and successfully posed as spokesmen for the World Trade Organization. -

Update #70: New Year Project Update
pseudonymous replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I'm going to say this one more time, it is not a balance issue in a single player game. It has never been a balance issue in a single player game. It will never be a balance issue in a single player game. It's an issue of game designers listening to the pin-heads from publishers that keep repeating this year's buzzwords (balance and accessibility) over gamers themselves and apparently believing that gamers are incapable of thinking tactically with their magic users. Gamers are more than capable of changing tactics to deal with friendly fire from their mages. There really is no reason to place an MMO mechanic that limits griefing into a single player game where griefing will never be a problem.- 491 replies

Update #70: New Year Project Update
pseudonymous replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
No, it does not make sense. If your characters are in the AoE they should take damage no matter what your mage's INT is. There is no balance issue here, just gamers wanting to ignore where their party is when casting spells.- 491 replies

Update #70: New Year Project Update
pseudonymous replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I'd say it sounds like a game designer trying to appeal to filthy casuals by making the game a cake-walk. IF that is the case, it should be an option for the super easy settings and not forced on everyone.- 491 replies
