PC Demo - Post your impressions.
Pidesco replied to WTF's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I don't know how it works exactly but, considering that the game is mostly linear and there isn't persistent multiplayer like Diablo, you'll generally always be at roughly the same level in a given area, so it shouldn't make much difference if enemy strength is proportional to char level. You won't be taking your level 5 character against the game's last bosses or anything. -

In case you missed my post in the other thread, the controller emulator solves the gamepad problems. -

Now that I've played a bit more of the demo, some other things stood out. The soundtrack is, once again, great, the voice overs are uneven, and the game is very stable. I was alt tabbing in and out of the game with abandon, and it was quick, seamless, and not a single glitch occurred because of it. As far as technical polish is concerned, this appears to be Obsidian's best game. Regarding the voices, the one that stood out negatively was Anjali's. It sounds like Obsidian wanted a magical, out of this world tone for Anjali, but the voice actress really failed to achieve it. I'm probably going to be playing this a lot, both in single player and local co-op. Just Anjali and Lucas already play very differently, and they also allow, within their own customization, for a bunch of different playing styles. The combat is better than in Witcher 2, I'd say. -
Surprisingly, that actually doesn't look too bad.

DS3: Graphics Glitch!

Try disabling anti aliasing in the game and in the control panel. -

It's space to roll, I believe. Ok, the 360 controler emulator allows me to play with my gamepad, and it is much better than with the keyboard. The only problem with this solution is that I only get 360 gamepad button prompts. Other than that, the only thing I'd request is more control over the camera angle. -

I just played a couple of minutes to get a feel for it, so here are a few initial impressions. 1. The game doesn't detect my controller at all. I'll have to try it with the 360 controller emulator. 2. The game performs brilliantly. It's rather pretty, and with everything maxed out, it runs smooth as butter. 3. The game shows keyboard and mouse prompts for input in the character screen. It's a basic feature but, unfortunately, not a given in many games. 4. The character screen is huge and sports huge fonts. It's great to use on my big screen TV, but a bit of a waste if I'm playing on your PC's monitor. Lots of screen real estate is wasted, and it forces you to switch between several panes in the character screen 5. I've found the M&K controls fine and easy to control. I'm using WASD to move and the mouse to attack and it works fine. 1, 2, 3, Q, E, C, and Space are all easily reached and fairly intuitive for me to use. The only issue for me is that I have a tendency to click with the mouse when interacting with the environment instead of pressing E. 6. I feel that two types of attacks within each stance would have been better. It could have added a little spice to the combat through variation and combos. The following might have worked: Slashing and stabbing for Anjali's human form, explosive and burning for her fire form, sword and shield bash for Lucas' shield stance, Horizontal and vertical slash for his two-handed sword. -

Give this a go. I had the same problem with Arkham Asylum, and this emulator fixed it. -
By the error log, it seems to be some problem with the VC redistributable. As you've checked and double checked, I'm stumped. Perhaps you should search the net for previous problems between Visual Studio games that use the redistributable.

It had a mule, you see. And no loadings. And snazzy graphics. And it played itself. And it had a nonsensical name. And yeah. -

From the sound of it a gamepad is highly recommended. I don't get why PC gamers suddenly decided that controllers other than M&K are unworthy of their time. Alternate controllers used to be a staple of any PC gamer's setup and besides, gamepads are a user interface like any other. You don't refuse to use a steering wheel for your racing games on the principle of the thing, do you? Lots of games are designed to control better on a specific controller, and they're better for it. -

I would, except I don't have the config files readily available. Perhaps someone else here can help you out. Edit: Check file integrity through Steam. That helps, sometimes. -

Your PC's specs aren't brilliant, but the game should run. How much RAM do you have? Try settting all the game's configuration options to the minimum. -

My thoughts about Dungeon Siege 3

It's not a point of being one person or several complaining. The point is that almost any game, regardless of the its quality and success, is going to have some hardcore fans defending it. -
My thoughts about Dungeon Siege 3

If someone decided to make a sequel to Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, some dude would show up to complain that the sequel was Big Rigs in name only. -
Where's PC demo on steam?
Pidesco replied to faloow PL's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
They had to wait until I left for work to release the bloody demo. Now I'll have to wait some 12 hours until I get home, and then get the demo downloaded before I can play. -
Who is the target audience for this game?
Pidesco replied to DarkLord RuKen's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
While I can't say who it's being marketed to (other than Playboy readers, of course), I'd say the game was designed for people who want an RPG with a bit more in depth action combat system, and a plot that is a bit more fleshed out than your average ARPG story. It should be your typical Bioware/Obsidian RPG, as far as plot and quest structure are concerned, but with combat design in the vein of, say, Dark Alliance and similar melee combat games. Kind of like Jade Empire with co-op, but with combat that isn't embarrassing. -
Now, that's some marketing I can get behind of. Though I'd imagine Alvin is now asking questions of Square as to why an interview wasn't arranged with those ladies. He could have introduced himself as the Ass. Prod. A classy ice breaker.

In this thread a person complains about the design choices in a game they won't buy and don't care about. Also he defines good game design as the design of games in the genre he enjoys. Everything else is bad design. Apparently.
