  1. http://www.newsweek.com/id/236096 Will attempt to respond more fully later. I had not looked at it in those terms [priests abuse at the same rate as the population as a whole]. I'd be hypocritical if I did, since I've argued many times that incidents of violent abuse in the Army are not higher than those in the general population. So, I concede the point. However, this is not just about incidents of abuse, it is about the way the Church has handled abusers. Specifically it has concealed their crimes both actively and passively, to a degree which suggests an institutional policy. That is, in the technical vernacular, totally ****ing mental. It's what everyone does, though. Basically, everyone reasons that concealment and denial is the best policy until they get caught. There was a paedophilia case here in Portugal involving a charity organization where it was basically the same deal. Only over 20 years after the fact did the victims come forward.
  2. You know, I don't like censorship because I lived in a dictatorship where ideology was kept under constant watch and dissents was close to social death or literal. So i'm a little biased on the subject, but now that you bring up: Why is that censorship is bad? I mean there are things that should be censored. ORLY?
  3. Oooh, I know this one, I know this one! Let's see... perspective? I'm betting on semantics.
  4. If it's regular fruit juice with nothing added, it should be perfectly healthy.
  5. Between those and Jay Z, there are 3 good reasons to go to Roskilde, instead.
  6. Games are significantly slower in 7 than in XP. Mostly, it's not the 2 to 3 frame drop off benchmarks online told me. They've gone from silky smooth to stuttering unless I start lowering the bling. The games I've tested so far are Dragon Age, Call of Pripyat, Last Remnant and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Also there's the previously mentioned tearing of videos on the HDTV.
  7. My worry isn't about RAM, though. Doubling the amount helped general performance a fair bit. My problem is that the CPU, and maybe the GPU as well aren't giving the same mileage as they did under XP.
  8. Hopefully, Capcom will maintain the policy of doing a release for the PC.
  9. 1. There are benchmark programs for HDDs. 2. It should be fine. 3. Yes. Check out My Documents' properties. 4. I'm not sure it is possible, but if it is, it shouldn't make the startup of other OSs in your system slower. Only the startup of the OS that is located in the USB drive will be slower.
  10. Among the features I've already disabled are Aero (seriously, who the **** uses this?), indexing. Others I haven't disabled yet are Libraries, generally removing the extra stuff from the new Windows Explorer, and the new stupid Start Menu. I'm still finding out new stuff to get rid of, though. As for the tearing, only one of media player classic's output methods alleviates it somewhat, although not completely. Note that the tearing only shows up on the TV, not on the monitor. Usually, this is a result of low performance mostly affected by the CPU and GPU. On XP, I had the same sort of tearing before upgrading my CPU from a P4 to the current core duo.
  11. It's slower, has a mass of useless features I have to disable or figure out how to disable, it made me buy an extra 2 Gigs of RAM to improve the performance, HD movies on my HDTV now have tearing, and it locks up my PC if I let it go into sleep mode. None of these happened with XP before. I did a clean installation. My PC: ASUS P5QL PRO Intel Core Duo 2 E7400 4 GB Kingston DDRII667 RAM Gaiward 9800GT Onboard Audio Samsung 80GB 7200RPM Samsung 320GB SATA2 Seagate 1Tb 7200 RPM S-ATA2 32Mb Samsung 19" 923NW Gamepad XFX XGear Dual Reflex The only difference between this and my previous config is that I doubled the RAM in order to harness the 64bit architecture. Damn you Just Cause 2.

  13. As long as it isn't done to the sound of Needle in The Hay.
  14. They did hire Jorge "Oscuro" Salgado to work on FO3. If I recall correctly, he's from Spain. I thought he was South American. But wasn't he already living in California when he was hired?
  15. That was pretty great. Does Obsidian still have a policy of not hiring people from outside the US?
  16. Exactly. How hard could it be? People complained for Dead Rising, complained for Banjo & Kazooje, complained for weeks with hundreds of posts for Mass Effect 2, for an issue so stupid and so easy to address. My point is that if there are two differently sized fonts, you're obviously not seeing the SD font in the Gamespot footage.
  17. In any case, isn't it standard to have two fonts in console games, one for HDTVs and another one for SDTVs? It seems like something obvious and trivial for a dev to do.
  18. - self confidence when speaking with women I'm not particularly attracted to + self confidence when speaking with women I really fancy - manly, attractive legs + a head of hair that doesn't look permanently weak, balding and unruffled. - excellent hearing + a personal soundtrack always playing in the background, which applies perfectly to whatever situation I'm in
  19. So there's respeccing in real life?
