What are you listening to?
The version of Wave Of Mutilation is infinitely excellent on that album. Interpol -- Narc <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, indeedy. I thought the other standouts were "There Goes My Gun" and "Subbaculcha." It was a treat to hear them do that Beatles song too. Man, what a weird pick for a cover. Have you heard if they did any covers on the recent tour? Billy Bragg and Wilco - California Stars

Oblivion First Impressions
I haven't played it yet, and won't for a few years at least. Still, I thought I'd let you all know that Penny Arcade has a writeup about Oblivion. Tycho's newspost The cartoon is Elder Scrolls-related as well.

Danzig - Not of This World Nobody can croon like ol' Glen. Just a few weeks ago, I was drunkenly carousing down a street with some friends, doing a swingin' Tom Jones-esque version of "Attitude." Yeah, we got some looks.

What are you listening to?
I have quite an affinity for the White Album (which is why VtM:BL got 1,000 cool points in my book for referencing "Helter Skelter") I compare it to The Clash's "Sandanista" a lot, because they are both sprawling double albums released late in the band's career that delve into so many different musical directions. I mean, you go from mellow, acoustic-based ballads to raucous blues to proto-metal to whatever the hell you call "Piggies." All in one massive, messed-up album. Favorite tracks: Happiness is a Warm Gun, I'm So Tired, Don't Pass Me By, Yer Blues, Rocky Raccoon, Martha My Dear, Sexy Sadie, Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey

facing Death
That is certainly intense, man. So, the question is 'has your near-death experience changed your outlook on life?' For instance, are you going to just do whatever you want now regardless of consequence? Or take less risks?

The Beatles - You Never Give Me Your Money Had a long drive today for work, so I listened to Abbey Road, straight through - the preferred way to listen to that album. This is my favorite song from an album full of great songs.

Are any Scottish ales mass-produced in the states? If so, are they any good? I got hooked on one at the local brewpub (they just called it "Scottish Ale") in my old town, and since I've moved I haven't found anything like it.

Classical music and Jazz: dead?
Hell, many major American markets don't even have an alternative rock station anymore. But I'll stay on topic, and the topic is why classical and jazz music is tough to find these days. In my experience, classical and jazz were nowhere to be found until I went to college. Unless you live in an area that's jam-packed with people who care about art, you're not going to find those forms of music around. I don't know if that is exactly a change, in fact I would think it would be normal. I can get a CBC station from across the Great Lakes that plays classical music during the day. Besides that, I've got one high-powered Top 40 station, a handful of classic rock stations that all play Ted Nugent WAY too much, and few stations with the polished crap coming out of Nashville these days. I don't rely on the radio for musical enlightenment anymore. I prefer other avenues.

True Eh, depends on what you drink. Sam Adams in several forms can, and has, gone toe to toe with most beers made anywhere. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised by the awesomeness of Sam Adams' Cherry Wheat Ale. I didn't think cherries and beer would go well together, but I should have known better. After all, Corona and lime is quite refreshing. Also, my preferred drinking method for the very tasty Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale is to drink half and then drop an orange slice in the glass. It's like you just started a totally different beer! :D

What are you listening to?
I listened to half of one of their CDs once. Don't remember the name, it was long and pretentious though. I couldn't really get into it. I know it's not the kind of stuff that's instantly accessible, but at the time I didn't have the patience to give it a fair chance. I had the same experience with Sigur Ros. It's still around somewhere, maybe I'll give it a try someday. Oh, and Joe Jackson - Don't Wanna Be Like That

Duke Nukem Forever 2
[rant] The world needs Duke Nukem. Where's the charismatic heroes in games these days? Shooters, especially. Look at the Halo games and Doom 3. You have a guy in a space suit. Where's the attitude there? It's antiseptic, that's what it is. Sanitized for your protection - which is the antithesis of the Duke! [/rant]

Rappers' Delight (in stealing hooks)!
Judge Blocks Biggie by Gina Serpe Mar 20, 2006, 10:30 AM PT Ready to Die has been deep-sixed by a federal judge. Sales of the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1994 debut were immediately halted Friday after a Nashville jury determined that the album's title track sampled from an Ohio Players song without permission. U.S. District Judge Todd Campbell imposed a ban on sales of both Biggie's breakthrough album and the offending song in all forms, that not only includes physical CDs, tapes and records, but also Internet downloads and radio play. As the album, which has sold 4 million units to date, is still available for sale on several online music sites, it remains unclear when the order will take effect and how it will be enforced, particularly when it comes to monitoring airplay. The federal jury in Nashville determined last week that "Ready to Die" had illegally used parts of the Ohio Players' 1992 funk hit "Singing in the Morning." Aside from the injunction, the jury ruled that Sean "Diddy" Combs, Biggie's most famous friend as well as his record's executive producer, and Bad Boy Entertainment must pay $4.2 million in punitive and direct damages to Bridgeport Music and Westbound Records, the owners of the Ohio Players' song rights. The favorable ruling was a long time coming for the two latter companies, who have filed hundreds of lawsuits against the sampling of their artists, which also include George Clinton and the Funkadelics. Virtually all the other suits have been settled out of court. "We've just been battling this for such a long time," Armen Boladian, owner of Bridgeport and Westbound said Friday. "So many have been settled because companies didn't want anything to do with it, and we knew we were right." Right, maybe. But not yet enriched. Bad Boy Entertainment, Bad Boy LLC, Justin Combs Publishing (so named for Diddy's son) and Universal Music, all named as defendants in the suit, plan to appeal. "We think [the verdict] is without merit," defense lawyer Jay Bowen said. The estate of the late Notorious B.I.G., who was born Christopher Wallace, was originally named as a defendant in the suit but later dropped.

Natty Ice, ohhhhh yeahhhhhh. JUST KIDDING!!! But really, back in my college days we used to pick up a 24-pack (a "suitcase," if you will) of Natural Ice for $9.99. We were young and poor, and nowhere else could we find a beer with a 5.9 percent alcohol content for under 10 bucks. I fought like hell for that B in economics, but when it came to figuring out the most drunk for the least money I knew where to go. Although those plastic vodka bottles baby arm is talking about are just as good a deal, I'd rather drink beer or wine than the hard stuff. Now that I am of legal drinking age, I have the freedom (if not the cash) to diversify my tastes in booze. I've learned to love the dry reds (cabernets, merlots) and the dark beers. Guinness is lovely, but the brewpub in my old town made a Scottish Ale that was, to this day, the best beer I've tasted. I also drink a good amount of coffee, but if feel like breaking the bank I'll get a Chai Tea.

Blockbuster renting 360 stuff.
Yeah the Lackluster video near me has been renting 360 stuff since probably a few weeks after the system came out. I remember being pretty surprised. They had a lot of copies of the first few games. You know, King Kong, DOA4, that sort of thing. Of course, I didn't really care, because I don't have a 360.

HaPpY St. Urho's Day!!!
I can't wait to get off work and get a pint o' the brown. Hopefully, somebody will have The Pogues on the jukebox. You crazy Finns and your parody holidays. Still, who really needs an excuse to order a Guinness, eh? And now, an excerpt from a nice Irish drinking song: I have acres of land I have men at command I have always a shilling to spare So be easy and free when you're drinking with me I'm a man you don't meet every day So come fill up your glasses of brandy and wine Whatever it costs I will pay So be easy and free when you're drinking with me I'm a man you don't meet every day

Post your favourite song lyrics.
Speak o' the devil... and Nick Cave will appear to show everyone how to write a truly tragic love song. Nick Cave w/ Kylie Minogue - Where the Wild Roses Grow off the essential album "Murder Ballads" Chorus: They call me The Wild Rose But my name was Elisa Day Why they call me it I do not know For my name was Elisa Day Nick Cave: From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one She stared in my eyes and smiled For her lips were the colour of the roses That grew down the river, all bloody and wild Kylie Minogue: When he knocked on my door and entered the room My trembling subsided in his sure embrace He would be my first man, and with a careful hand He wiped at the tears that ran down my face Chorus Nick Cave: On the second day I brought her a flower She was more beautiful than any woman I'd seen I said, "Do you know where the wild roses grow So sweet and scarlet and free?" Kylie Minogue: On the second day he came with a single red rose Said: "Will you give me your loss and your sorrow" I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed He said, "If I show you the roses, will you follow?" Chorus Kylie Minogue: On the third day he took me to the river He showed me the roses and we kissed And the last thing I heard was a muttered word As he knelt above me with a rock in his fist Nick Cave: On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief And I kissed her goodbye, said, "All beauty must die" And knelt down and planted a rose between her teeth Final chorus
