How well I remember that terrible day How the blood stained the sand and the water And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter Yeah. Yeah, I hear that. I had a history course on WWI back in college, and the prof played the original after we learned about Suvla Bay. He was crying by the end himself. Pogues version is better, I think, 'cause it ol' Shane McGowan sounds pretty damn believable as the vet.

Cheering yourself up
Lifting weights generally heightens my mood, especially if I've skipped a few workouts and I'm feeling lethargic. Also listening to great music in headphones (really loud) and rocking out in my apartment. Or coming home from another bad day at work, pouring a tall glass of some alcoholic beverage and putting my feet up. Oh yeah, and thinking about "The Hoff."

One of my favorite verses in one of my favorite Pogues songs. I played the pump and took the hump and watered whiskey down I talked of whores and horses to the men who drank the brown I heard them say that Jimmy's making money far away Some people leave for heaven without warning The Pogues - The Broad Majestic Shannon

Although I am a proud owner of Ultramega OK! on CD, their last three albums were their best. It is interesting to listen to the old stuff, though just to see the progression. Early stuff like "Hunted Down," and "Little Joe" are a long way from the psychadelia of "Applebite" or "Boot Camp." It blows my mind that people can know about the Eagles of Death Metal, but not THE Eagles. Man. Mojo Nixon - Don Henley Must Die

Yeah, I think that's the best song on there. They replace the strings with steel guitars on the live version, which I think is an improvement. I hear their earlier stuff stayed more in the alt-country vein, which means I might like it more. I'm waiting for Laozi's opinion on their entire body of work, as he seems to be the resident Wilco scholar...... Those Unknown - To the Daunted and Dispossessed

The library I frequent has Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born, so I thought I'd finally see what all the fuss was about Wilco. Maybe I haven't given it enough time, but YHF isn't living up to the hype for me either. I like the other one better, and I like the live double album better than both of 'em. Mark Lanegan is awesome. Whether it's Screaming Trees, QOTSA, or the Twilight Singers, anything he touches is better for it. Have any of you heard his solo stuff? I was thinking about picking up "Bubblegum," which I heard was the best of his solo albums. The Outfield - (I Don't Want to) Lose Your Love Tonight Those parentheses are on loan from Elvis Costello.

So what's their deal? HIM, that is. I asked a while back but none of you crazy Scandanavians responded. I hear they're popular with the Nordic crowd. Are they like the Finnish gothic version of Bon Jovi? I haven't been in a mall lately, but I bet the Hot Topic crowd loves 'em over here too. I do think they did a good job with that Chris Isaak cover, "Wicked Game," however. edit: Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You

The Chosen One Chooses NWN2
They have no choice. Generally, the errand-boy/girl quests have to be done so some authoritarian figure will trust you/agree to help you on your greater path. My "Quest for Milk" scenario isn't a means to an end, unless the main quest is to continue your existence by consuming nutrients.

The Chosen One Chooses NWN2
heeeeeere cooooooomes the suuuuuuunnnnn kiiiiiiiiing - sorry, I couldn't resist. Edit: Okay, okay, on topic. Doesn't sound very Chosen One-esque to me, but I'm sure as you become more powerful you get further embroiled in major events. I don't see the big deal. I mean, nobody wants to play an RPG as a nobody. Here's your quest: go to the store for milk. Rewarded with 30 XP, and some lawful points if you don't steal it. Mus?: It's a Beatles reference. Back half of Abbey Road.

Hi-Standard - Happy X-mas (War is Over) Japanese punk trio that was on Fat Wreck Chords for a while. I don't think they're still around, but they put out some great CDs. "Making the Road" is a punk classic, IMO.

T.O.M.B.S: Vol. 5
What cruise line was it? I took a Royal Caribbean cruise a few years back and did a few exercise programs to get this bright yellow t-shirt that said "I'm Ship-Shape." It's funny see, 'cause I got it on a ship. I've also been on a Celebrity cruise, which also yielded a cool t-shirt: plain white with the words "I'm a Celebrity" on the front.

GZA's Liquid Swords is a sweet rap album. Many people "in the know" consider it the finest solo effort by a Wu Tang member. I wouldn't consider myself "in the know" on this particular subject, but I do think Liquid Swords is pretty hot stuff. Aimee Mann - That's How I Knew This Story Would Break My Heart

Favorite Metal Bands
There was something called "The Blackest Album" a while back that had a bunch of no-name (to me anyway) industrial bands covering Metallica songs. I don't remember too much of it, but whoever did "The Shortest Straw" did a great job.
