  1. Social Distortion - So Far Away Mike Ness and the boys are coming to Cleveland in October, and I am SO there.
  2. Lawrence Block - Stag Party Kill It's in an anthology called "Pulp Masters" celebrating that gritty crime fiction we all know and love.
  3. Joe Jackson - One More Time
  4. Johnny Cash - Down There By The Train Well, I've never asked forgiveness and I've never said a prayer Never given of myself, never truly cared I've left the ones who loved me and I'm still raising Cain I've taken the low road and if you've done the same Meet me down there by the train Down there by the train Down there by the train Down there by the train Down there where the train goes slow written by Tom Waits
  5. I remember when it was pretty big deal that Trent Reznor was composing music for Quake. They even put the NIN logo on the crates of ammo for the nailgun in that game.
  6. What was that promise that you made? Paul Gilbert - Friday Night (Say Yeah) off the album Burning Organ.
  7. Nice! There was a locally-owned CD store in my old college town, and the three guys that worked there (one was the guitarist for Skeletonwitch, they all were in local bands) would just talk music all day with anyone who came by. You could just come in and say "I want to get into (insert band or artist here), where should I start?" and they would give a thorough analysis complete with consensus opinion as well as their own two cents. That's why I'll spend an extra buck or two to shop at the little guy's record store. The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God BTW Do you watch that "Rescue Me" show with Denis Leary? They used one of the tunes from the new Twilight Singers CD during a recent episode. And yeah, Dulli's got the physique, hair and attitude of a Baldwin.
  8. The last few days have been a respite from last week's mid-90s temps here in Ohio. I've been able to keep my apartment at 70-75 F pretty easily. I'm just glad my new place has central air. Sleeping in my old apartment would have been hell, with just a box fan blowing hot air through the window. So are all you Californians going "Crazy from the Heat?"
  9. This video is from BizarreFest in Germany, I'm guessing mid-to late-90s. Greg taunting the he dude who is getting kicked out of the show is priceless. People in bands should take lessons from Greg Dulli on how to deal with jerks in the crowd.
  10. I was playing some RollerCoaster Tycoon the other day. That game was great, just great.
  11. Maybe they sold a lot of units, but it hurt their bottom line. Microsoft profit tumbles 24% in video game investment.
  12. Lou Gutman = lead developer in training. He should put "Supermarket Hy-jinx" on his resume. Am I right?
  13. Alex Chilton - Free Again I say God-DAMN that's an obvious key change!
  14. It actually stayed on the straight and narrow for much longer than most threads of this type... must be a testament to the power and influence of the one they call "ELDAR."
  15. Jodo was my alt. Hoo boy, I sure had you guys going!
  16. STP - Still Remains Found an old STP mixtape. Score!
  17. Flowers for Algernon, The Lottery and Isaac Asimov all rule. I grew up on the Norby books, and later the Elijah Baley detective novels. Fun fact! The Norby books were actually transcribed in comic book form for several years in Boys Life magazine.
  18. I never knew Matt Sharp started the Rentals.... Ah well, that's a predictable Dr. Dave column. Although I have to admit the "Donald Duck imitating Hendrix with a kazoo" line caused a sharp peal of laughter from my cube. Todd Snider - Play a Train Song
  19. wanna go back, wanna go back and i don't even know how i got off the track Yeah, I just heard that Weezer business today. It's interesting, 'cause as great as Weezer was, they inadvertently spawned the whole emo, sensitive geek culture. For every Nerf Herder or FOW, there's three Dashboard Confessionals... Not that Rivers was the first, he was trying to be an updated Buddy Holly, but they filled stadiums with rock songs about feelings. I was digging through my old CDs this week and found a data CD full of old music videos. I had a great version of them doing Undone (The Sweater Song) live on Conan. Anybody remember that one?
  20. Billy Bragg and Wilco - The Unwelcome Guest It's a "Joe Hill"-esque story song, written by Woody Guthrie. Yes, they'll catch me napping one day And they'll kill me And then I'll be gone But that won't be my end For my guns and my saddle Will always be filled By unwelcome travelers And other brave men And they'll take the money And spread it out equal Just like the Bible And the prophets suggest But men that go riding To help these poor workers The rich will cut down Like an unwelcome guest
  21. The Dude abides. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there. The Dude. Takin' 'er easy for all us sinners.
  22. I'm going to save this thread from a derailment into a discussion of the Finnish club scene by wishing my buddy Eldar a happy (belated) birthday. For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow... etc. :D
  23. The Byrds - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue I picked up "The Byrds Play Dylan" at the library yesterday. I knew they were responsible for bringing Dylan to the top 40 crowd, with "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "My Back Pages," but I had no idea they covered 20+ Dylan songs during their career.
  24. That NoMeansNo live stuff is pretty good. I still want to find one of their CDs though. Now that I'm living in a new town I'll hit the local CD shops. Teenage Fanclub - Star Sign (slow version)
  25. Is that the "Dad Dance"? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately, yes. I have tried other, cooler, types of dancing. However, my body eventually returns to its natural state of traveling on some otherworldly treadmill.
