  1. Finishing Witcher 2 act II. I had to shake my head a few times in dismay at what Projekt Red did. Checkpoint saves before tiresome scenes where you play other characters and have to fight, boss with attacks that kill you in two hits that are hard to dodge, spamming more enemies at Geralt so they surround you and inevitably kill you because they get a damage bonus with backstabs and you can't roll away because the levels are small and tight... Random and undependable effects with magic (Aard, Igni) - especially annoying is failure to damage enemies because sign hits a small terrain element that's between you and the target. So frustrating, pointless and annoying. Then it occurred to me that it was the same feeling I had with Dark Souls, except in the Witcher 2 its occasional and with DS it begins with the first fight. I just have no patience with learning these type of combat systems where you have to study each enemy and patiently counter their attacks. Its the anti-thesis of fun for me - a tedious indulgence to the games mechanics instead of indulging my whim to relax and play it my way. Its almost shameful to admit, but I practically enjoyed Skyrim's rubbish combat more than Witcher 2's precisely because I could breeze through it in seconds. I enjoy multiplayer FPS twitch shooting because its fast and furious, and the effects are immediate. But this? I can't play this ****. I'll force myself to finish the game to see how the story ends, but I won't be playing it again. Ever.
  2. I don't think Star Citizen is going to be about that but you really should drop by Bioware forums and tell them how you feel
  3. The greater conundrum is... why did they make this trailer in the first place? You could basically slap it onto any fantasy game.
  4. The companies play at policing so they "cover" what is supposed to be their responsibility but the real deal behind it all is that they don't turn away their customers unless they absolutely have to, which means tolerating just about anything. Many people will put up with a lot to keep playing their favorite game, which the companies are aware of so they let it slide. Obviously when things are slipping from up top, the bottom can only look like the 9th circle of hell.

  6. I don't understand either. There is a group in the EVE universe that goes by that name and has a bad reputation, and their avatar is the same as her avatar so I presume EVE gamers know what its about.
  7. I'm not saying its not true, I'm saying online gaming is toxic in general. Btw the point of the replies (and no one said she couldn't make the group) was the question what the point of the group was going to be, considering that outside of the group nothing was going to change since the same members can be simply spammed on other forums. No one forbids her anything, they just weren't thrilled about it. This includes some female members of that forum. Btw, regarding that user: Let me stress right now: I do not believe anyone on the moderation team banned Lauresh because they are a woman. I am 100% confident that it was because of the 30+ flags complaining about other users in the thread, with profane messages attached: “****ing ban this retard,” “for the love of god would someone please stop this person from ****ting up the thread already,” “mother ****ing trolling” and so on. Lauresh seems to have flagged not only sexist posts (which should be warned/probated) but also anything complaining that the thread was a setup (‘you’re a Goon, you just want to fight, etc.’)... While Lauresh had been banned before (and warned several times before that,) their previous ban was overturned and should not have counted as a strike. .... In other words, she's the exact type of vile online personality that's she's complaining against.
  8. That's different and like having a competitive clan and its tied to the game. What she's proposing is excluding all males because some males are **** and that's naturally not going to sit well with people who haven't done anything wrong. Saying females need a "safe environment" is bound to rub normal people the wrong way. Ultimately, the question is, what are these gender exclusive discussions that need a "safe environment" and aren't suited for general chat.
  9. Good moderation, reporting abuse in channels/private messages. Banning and good control of user accounts (so that they actually stand to lose something with a ban) /problem solved Being abused and spammed just because you're female is just as bad as having some kid scream at you because you fragged him for the seventeenth time in TF2. The world of online gaming or any gaming involving anonymous human interaction is ugly for all involved - men don't complain because there is nothing to be done about it. But I'm pretty sure its driven many people away. I urge any of you to try commenting on any aspect of TF2 gameplay on the corresponding Steam forum and see what happens, regardless of whether you're male or female.
  10. I only read the first page of the responses and they were quite polite (especially by internet standards). They boiled down to forum members (including one female) asking why she'd need a female only group in the first place, and what it is that she has to discuss there that she couldn't in regular channels. Those are legitimate questions since she's creating an exclusive group that isn't tied to some game faction/element/whatever.
  11. Please don't feed the troll. The opera house was very well planned by the terrorists, there was no way to resolve it without serious casualties. That's if you're referring to the civilian casualties, they never intended to let the terrorists live. The gas was a good plan but achieving optimal concentration of it in the air far more problematic when it is pumped in through ventilation and those who were closest were more exposed. The alternative was to run in guns blazing and let the suicide bombers detonate and kill everyone. I think some of the bombs turned out to be fake, but they couldn't have known that.
  12. I gave up on it quickly. Its very pretty but very shallow.
  13. We could have post apocalypse without the Fallout universe. Its not exactly obligatory
  14. Ah the old, we should "sort out" the natives problems and by sorting out the natives themselves and everything will be fine.
  15. Yanukovich wasn't Putin's man. His rethoric had its pro-russian moments to appease his pro-russian voting base in the east, but up until the very end the actual policy he was leading was totally pro-western, with typical extreme emphasis on the (never to come) EU membership and "quiet and slow" NATO integration. Regardless he wasn't a directly controlled yes man like Yanetsuk or Timoshenko which made him too unpredictable for the west. Putin didn't like him because he knew he couldn't depend on him either.
  16. Thought I should give DS2 another chance. Its the same nonsense from the first game. Unresponsive controls, terrible camera, suspect enemy animations (getting hit when I shouldn't be). I died 10 times against the mole thing at the very beginning due to how unresponsive rolling and totally random whether I get hit or not when I jump backwards. With each death it seemed my health bar got shorter and shorter. Really DS2? Penalizing the player for struggling with your '98 style clunky combat to make it even more obnoxious? I get what this game is doing. Its trolling me. But I'm not that much of a masochist. The PS2 version of Devil May Cry 3 could be brutally hard at times (was toned down later for PC release). In fact, it was the hardest action game I played in a long while. I never finished it. But the game was fair, the controls lightning fast... all you had to do was learn enemy patterns and not get hit much. That was "smart difficulty" dependent entirely on player agency. DS2 is a glorified grind.
  17. There were albanians in Srebrenica? Or are you just engaging in creative associations? What of the "dead"there that rose to vote in the subsequent election? Yes, we were so interested in killing every Albanian that we called Associated Press and OSCE observers to watch the conduct of the special forces operation in Racak, whereupon we massacred them all in front of the world's press. Lol. A special brand of naivete is needed to believe that. If the intention of the army was to actually commit genocide; 1) no one would have been able to stop them in time 2) there would be massive and obvious casualties and civillians would die in droves The Hutu's massacred the Tutsi's in Rwanda in several months armed with little more than machetes. The YNA was armed to the teeth. But you know..stick to your theory. You know, it's funny how you all accuse the West of propping up a facist regime and spend so much care making apologies for killers because they happened to be on your side, geopolitically speaking. You make me sick. Maybe it doesn't meet the criteria for genocide, so what, they were still atrocities. You avoid discussion and resort to insults and accusations because you're not familiar with the topic beyond news headlines and not willing to entertain the notion that your version of the events might be wrong. I did not make excuses for anyone but illustrate that the narrative was nowhere near as simple as you believe it to be. But then, you believe Dubrovnik was flattened, so not only is your knowledge of the topic casual at best, you're relying on memory to discuss events from 20 years ago.

  19. Everything was a huge PR disaster in that war because Serbs didn't realize the role of media and lobbying in modern conflicts. The KLA, the croats and the bosnian muslims all hired the best US based PR agencies they could afford well in advance of the respective conflicts. They led their media campaigns for them whitewashing or ignoring the unsavory parts of the war and selling them to the international public as the sole victims. When the war started the Serbian leadership found out the hard way that the media already had their pre-ordained role in the conflict and that they had missed the train to get their side across. Afterwards it became an uphill battle, once negative associations are established in the minds of a chunk of the population it becomes a hole you can't dig yourself out of regardless of what you do. Everyone knows or think they know of the "shelling of Dubrovnik", "Racak massacre" "Srebrenica genocide" because these were designed to be the focal points of the conflict by the media, with clear and defined victim-aggressor roles. A handful of people know of the civillian massacres leading up to Srebrenica, of William Walker's role in staging Racak or of the way the fighting around Dubrovnik was blown out of proportion because the town is beautiful and a very good photo op. My point is not denying the possibility of criminal acts in a war as an individual act or a major military blunder but discrediting the idea that the entire policy was based around the intent to commit war crimes on a massive scale.
  20. Wikipedia has next to no credibility for hotly debated political topics where significant interests are in play, sorry. The articles are very biased and make no effort to offer differing viewpoints.
  21. No, that's the line for 4K 3D tv's in front of Best Buy All it needs is a shrine to "Steve Jobs the techno messiah" by the side of the road.
  22. You're misinformed. There was no ethnic cleansing, the "civil war",(a rebellion by extremists within a minority) would have been over in a month without external meddling and the bombing went from targeting military units to deliberatelly targeting power plants, tv stations and other targets which have no military value and serve only to terrorize the population. Even the chinese embassy was hit. It was sign of impotence and the goal was to bully the population into submission. Dubrovnik is anything but flattened. Yet another one of those situations crated to sway public opinion. Its still one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Croatian coast and emerged from the war more than intact. The pictures of Dubrovnik burning are in fact mass burnings of automobile tyres because tyres give out thick black smoke that looks dramatic on photos. The JNA was more than capable of flattening the town but had no inclination or reason to do so.
