I loved that stuff. It took me so long to find the Incal, with only the first album being available in Serbia in wide circulation. The other series are a decline in quality and ideas IMO. And art, but then there is only one Jean Giraud.

I enjoyed it during Belgrade FEST (movie festival). I like the leading actor as well, particularly in the movie Adam's Apples. He's somewhat of a rising star now.

Really ? No mention of Jews being ethnically cleansed, maybe a Soviet Union reborn while you were at it ? I bet 213374U kicks dogs and is a Manchester United fan too! It is well known that 2133 is the internet vanguard of God Emperor Putin. His will be done! ...I like Manchester United

Evidence suggests that that is the last thing the US wants- after all, the self appointed non democratic coup putsch junta etcetc regime has (re)commenced their "anti terror" operations the day following visits by the CIA chief and Joe Biden. Hardly seems that they have been urging restraint... *Could have been Zico or even Pele, not sure Samuel Huntington proposed the split up of Ukraine back in the 90's. If he "proposes" it, that means the US is working on it and satisfied with the outcome. I'm not thrilled by the idea of splitting up Ukraine. The best possible outcome would be for the Kiev junta to be deposed and statewide elections held. Don't ask me how, because with each passing day they become more entrenched.

OSCE observers abused their "neutral" "observer" status during the Kosovo war to place locators on Serbian army positions for NATO. I hope they throw him in prison to rot.

How does PoE innovate?
Drowsy Emperor replied to Zeckul's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
PoE doesn't really innovate. The whole game was sold on the premise of being like some other games, of offering the same type of experience. So innovation can't really its defining feature. It can't hope to surpass the scale of Baldur's Gate II although it may gun for the narrative quality of PST. I doubt it'll surpass either, but that doesn't make it any less worth playing. -
Well that's even less likely to pop up nowadays. I stumbled on this interesting article: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/EricSchwarz/20130415/190441/BioShock_Infinites_Combat_Mechanics_Regression.php Its a long but well written explanation on how shooter's became dumber (through BS Infinite). This pic made me lol.

I haven't played Unreal 1 (only the Tournament games), but that type of sci-fi horror shooter is all but extinct. Even on the rare occasions they get made they tend to suck. Doom 4 might come eventually and Wolfenstein: New Order is about as close as you're going to get. The old shooters tended to be very straightforward run and gun affairs, today there are a ton of practically obligatory mechanics that get in the way. Painkiller and Serious Sam were the last two good entries in the genre which has been colonized by military based

DAO's combat was obnoxious. There was too much of it, the abilities were boring, the loot was uninspired and there were too few enemies. I pushed through the game for story reasons and could have lived with a fast-forward button in almost every fight. I even went so far to gimp the system later on in the game by casting Storm of the Century behind every closed door to murder everything inside just to get past it. It was ****ing agony and if PoE's system is as bad as DAO's I'll probably never finish the game, because my tolerance for bad gameplay is zero nowadays.

Update #68: ART!
Drowsy Emperor replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I'm curious to know (if I understand this process correctly) why the backgrounds can't be very detailed hand made drawings? Why are they done in 3D, textured, etc... Can't they be simply painted (digitally ofc)?- 240 replies

You don't want to play Morrowind, its brown.

1) I drink strength potions vs. Demogorgon. Tactics. 2) I have 3 strenth potions. I can't get more. I have to kill Demogorgon, Bahomet and Monte Carlo. I allocate my limited resources between the three battles. Strategy. While this is relevant from a theoretical standpoint, in my experience, in practice it's not. In all party-based games I've played since the IE came out, after a short, unforgiving and frustrating start, I was consistently swimming in potions, scrolls, wands etc, rendering the strategic element of resource allocation meaningless. This is partly due to the fact that most of the cookie-cutter encounters (filler, to tie in with my previous post) don't require that you expend any of your non-renewable resources and the instances where the difference would be noticeable are few and far between. And even then, it's not a requirement, but simply something that will increase your chances of avoiding a reload. Last time I went to grab the Ring of Gaxx, I didn't even have to use my valuable Protection from Magic scrolls because I got lucky with the Mace of Disruption. So much facepalm. Actually what ruined IE games somewhat was the ability to spam "rest to full health" in most situations which in all honesty is little different from regenerating health. Basically you get something for nothing and everything but the worst mistakes are forgiven. With regeneration they just removed the necessity of hitting a button outside of combat and replaced it with the game doing it for you. If you had to rely only on the potions and such, or resting only in few pre-defined areas, it would be much harder. To be honest, I've never seen an RPG with a good loot economy, meaning that you have to strategically allocate your resource use. Its always an upward curve that leaves the character overpowered in relation to his enemies even in level scaling systems.

Those statistics to me say more about how acceptable it is for a woman to go to the authorities about it (and be taken serious) than about the actual number of rape crimes that happen. Even so, without a statistic of some sort there is no argument other than "CNN said so" or "Indian media said so" and the discussion goes back to what you or I "believe" which is totally irrelevant in the long run. You believe they're under-reporting, I'm inclined to believe that too. But I'm not inclined to believe that the statistic is significantly larger and all the media is doing is pointing fingers without having facts to support them, only presumptions.
-
True, then again reports of authorities having a comical attitude towards the crime also helped out the frenzy. Indian authorities are lax about everything. I'm not justifying them, just saying how they operate.
-
The India rape frenzy the media stirred up is epitome of bombastic and misleading journalistic work. The rate of rape in the US is 28 to 100000 individuals. The worst indian city has a rate of 10 at same sample size. Even with severe under-reporting it is questionable whether the rate of rapes in India is higher than the US. The UK has 23 at same sample. Sweden has 53. These are US Department of Justice statistics. I have no particular affinity towards India but I hate this type of slander, rifling through other people's dirty laundry while knee deep in your own crap.

Left 4 Dead is really fun but it gets old quickly.

The switches themselves are made by Cherry, not SteelSeries, and are commonly available - the vast majority of mechanical keyboards will have Cherry switches in them (some no-brand boards will have knock-off switches of the same design). The advantage of this is that you can therefore replace both the switches and the caps (since they're generic) individually. A place like WASD Keyboards sell individual switches and caps which you might want to look into (I've used them personally with no issue shipping to Australia). If your switch is damaged and not just the cap, then it's a bit more of a tricky fix which might need additional hardware (potentially messing with solder), but it's still within reason as long as the electronics of the keyboard aren't shot. That's what I said in my amazon review. There is nothing wrong with the switches, but then SS has nothing to do with them. The keycaps they picked, basically their only responsibility, are absolute rubbish. Thankfully its just a cap. I'm going to buy a set on ebay and be done with it, a larger one since with the small price difference there's no point to buying just the WASD set. So I'll have some replacements just in case.

I like the PnP Talislanta approach. PC's improve their skills but can never improve their hit points by normal means. Magical healing sources are rare. That ensures that the combat is deadly and adds a degree of realism. Ferocious monsters stay that way because you know your chances of victory against them are slim. You have to be really clever to get the best of them and stack the situation in your favor through good role playing. The DnD and usual CRPG approach lead to ridiculous situation that a typical lvl 20 character can murder an army of level 1 characters. As you climb upwards in levels the world grows boring as you're basically above everything and everyone. I always thought it was a careless way to design character progression. I think the players would respond well to a game that doesn't pander to them so much. They certainly did with Dark Souls and that's a lot more sadistic than Talislanta. Of course, this presumes a role playing game where combat isn't padding material (like it almost always is), which leads to a shorter game overall. But I could live with that.

I think part of the problem is the implicit assumption in the games that romance = sex. They already acknowledge a few times in the DA series that sex /= romance, but they can't shake the converse (or is that contrapositive...?) But part of this is - IMO - the view that the romance exists as an ego stroke and not a part of the story. The player is supposed to feel like they "win", which is why so many people see them as a sex minigame. I think its best to do it like with Torment's Fall from Grace. Dialog that doesn't necessarily lead anywhere, just suggests what might have been. An integral part of the experience without any type of mechanic behind the scenes. I like how they did it, it was suggestive without being crass. And then there was that diary you couldn't open. Nice touch.

So, what you're saying is... needs more foreplay? Yep, I'm that type of girl.
-
Well, I'm ****ed. Steelseries wants me to ship the keyboard back to them (3 weeks + substantial costs) and provide a proof of purchase (invoice for a 2 year old keyboard?) and then they may replace it and ship it back to me (further 3 weeks) at which point the customs will look inside, see a 100$ keyboard and slam me for 50euros in taxes. In effect this means I'll be buying another keyboard. All this bother for a single keycap since they evidently don't send replacements. There you go people. If you're outside the US don't ****ing bother with anything from Steelseries.

Romance was a major factor in Final Fantasy X. While Tidus had horrid voice acting and the story could be really corny at times it was actually about romance. You didn't have choice in the matter but the two leads had a genuine romantic interaction leading to a bittersweet conclusion. Bioware's "romances" aren't about romance, because the dating sim mechanics they implement are the same type you'd find in a hentai game. Its a game mechanic leading to a reward and the reward you're led to expect is sex. I don't have a problem with sex in games. Some of the events leading up to Witcher's sexy cards were hilarious. The cards themselves were a nerd bait and a joke at the same time. But they didn't pretend to be anything else. Geralt = James Bond in that universe and he gets the babes. Its part of the deal, like with Final Fantasy X - take it or leave it. But even the implicit hypocrisy of Bioware fans clamoring for their "romances" is fine. The problem lies in the fact that Bioware romances are as a rule ****. They don't know how to write a good love story. They never have. The only romance they ever wrote that was tolerable was Jaheira and that was mostly because the character grew on you and developed over the span of two games.. The others are corny choose the right answer affairs with traumatized women, ice queens, blue space lesbians, practically every idiotic trope you could think of except a relationship between two normal human individuals. It goes like this: 1) female NPC is neutral 2) 2 dialog lines later female NPC tells you her sad life story 3) 3 comforting lines filled with fake "I understand you" nonsense (which you automatically pick because they might as well be color coded for which one is the right one) later you're on top of her 4) 2 more lines are devoted to the relationship and the game leaves it at that while the character might even get a perk now that you put her in order with your wang and your 15 minutes of comfort /romance

Bruce man, you gotta check your facts before you put the troll train in motion

I wish there were public whippings for these people.

Bioware "heteronormative"? Now that I think about it, it was practically inevitable for Bioware writers to make a game where you play the inquisition. If they frequent their own forum's I can't blame them for wanting to get a bonfire going.
