  1. Because RPG are for nerd that like math and fantasy and have no hand-eye coordination or physical skills, just give them numbers to crunch and let them believe they're special. Jesus; now I made myself sad for liking RPGs, it's like I suddenly realized i'm on the back of the special bus. Yeah. Besides the only reason why combat is expressed in stats is because you can't do it any other way in PnP, unlike games which can offer a direct and more exciting experience (which is also abstracted, clicking your mouse isn't exactly representative of real world sword play). I don't care about either these days, all I want is for the combat to be quick, infrequent and present only when necessary.
  2. Serious people don't talk smack on internet forums. Its just online bravado fueled by the comfort of anonymity and the encouraging presence of equally frustrated individuals. Its like my local gym, the members that are known to be criminals keep to themselves and are generally polite, and make an effort to appear like everyone else but at some point one develops a gut feeling that everything is not quite "alright" and that its best to stay away from them. The type that go around venting, dropping the weights, staring at people and in general behaving like apes turn out to be just that, mostly nobodies with no life outside the gym.
  3. I can't recall what pop-in is Here's an example from Mass Effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiKy4LrnymM Maybe the most glaring texture pop-in I've ever experienced was in GTA IV: And in Rage: Ah, I thought as much.
  4. I can't recall what pop-in is but the texture resolution is terrible on most things. When the first one was released BW focused heavily on the characters, in particularly the alien ones, which was logical considering how much time is devoted in game to closeups during dialog. They looked really good at the time. The rest of the game was less sharp but the design made up for it. However it always felt a bit sparse because there were so few NPCs in populated areas. The combat levels aren't even worth discussing, they're basically a tunnel.
  5. I really must drop by the codex some time to see what all the fuss is about. I've only been there once or twice to read reviews.
  6. W3 is on all platforms, except on the corpse that is the WiiU. Doesn't make it any less of a risk considering the advertised size of the game and production values though. With its reflex based combat it would make no sense to skip the consoles.
  7. Mass Effect 3. Its remarkable how badly the graphics have aged, the characters in particular. I remember being in awe when the first game was released. Now their facial animation and intimidating eye acrobatics could be used to inspire fear on the battlefield. I still don't like the gung-ho writing of the player characters dialog and can't really identify with either (male/female Shepard). I just got to the Citadel, so its too early to say much about the game.
  8. Well Sapkowski is standard epic fantasy, there isn't all that much specifically Slavic about his prose. The Witcher's candid conversations, a more relaxed attitude towards nudity and a particular brand of "matter of fact" pessimism are definitely Slavic though, maybe a few of the monsters and a bit area design too. I was only passively aware that the game was in production so I went into it without any expectations.
  9. An unknown eastern European developer making a 40 hour RPG as their first game to compete on the world market with Bioware then proceed to sell around 3 million copies of the game by word of mouth.... fiasco? Btw most choices in multi-million dollar projects aren't up to the designers whim. Companies work in the interests of their shareholders and those shareholders break out in cold sweat at the idea that you're investing their millions in experimental ideas. Its the miserable nature of any big business and in this regard Bioware or Bethesda or anyone else big enough is no different. Besides they're making a cyberpunk game and cyberpunk isn't exactly hot stuff now, about 20 years past its peak in popularity. Like Serrano I also don't like their marketing. They blow their own trumpet far too much for my tastes... Like the W3 having 70 awards even though its nothing more than a 5 minute Youtube clip currently. If you want to slam somebody, slam Valve. They're swimming in cash and not a game on the horizon.
  10. You don't discuss things, you put out a royal decree in three words or less and consider that discussion. Witcher 3 - DA3 comparions are valid since CDP's games are obviously influenced by Bioware and they're "the only (AAA) game in town". They literally have nothing else other than each other to compare to. And I wasn't discussing the Witcher in particular, I was pointing out that CDP has overtaken Bioware regarding graphics quality because I'm fresh from Witcher 2 and was blown away by how much better it looks than everything else and Bioware is neither small nor poor. If you'd have bothered to read the "What are you playing now" thread I wrote down and explained many of W2's flaws in detail, so I can hardly be offended by your single word opinions unsubstantiated by anything.
  11. What annoys people is not that you're bashing something or other, its that half of the things you say make no sense. Most people on these boards, even those that don't like the Witcher wouldn't go so far as to say its a crap game. If they did they'd probably offer an explanation. You're just a broken record of short, out of context responses, like a counter strike bot stuck trying to move into a wall, angry for reasons known only to yourself. Ultimately what annoys people most is that you are capable of human interaction but refuse to participate in it like everyone else, in effect disrespecting everyone you come into contact with for no reason at all.
  12. I agree about South Park, the latter part of the game drags and is less interesting than the beginning and the middle.
  13. So they're really there. So much for the legitimacy of Kiev, using mercenaries against their own people.
  14. The difference between two cuts is 50 minutes of added material! Studios generally hate to put movies longer than two hours in the theater and will exert pressure on the director to keep around that length. The DC of KoH is 194 minutes, completely unacceptable for a theatrical release, unless you're Peter Jackson or something.
  15. I tried Shadow Warrior and I think I quit it quickly on account of how badly optimized the game was. It ran badly on my brand new laptop regardless of the graphical options: My rig: Intel Core i73632QM 8gig RAM Radeon HD8750M Regardless of the fact that its mobile architecture the game should have run blisteringly fast on this machine.
  16. I enjoyed both but Stalker is the more atmospheric series for me. New Vegas had too much silliness in it and I dislike the ES engine and combat although it certainly works much better with guns than it does with medieval weapons. I'm going to play Shadowrun next and after that ME3 with all the DLC's and such (friend of mine says its much better than the vanilla experience). Then I'm done with RPG's until something new and interesting shows up.
  17. So Yanukovich should have shot all the maidan rebels then, when they were taking over government buildings? And you'd have approved? No, I think they should be muslim, then you'd have no problem with it. Hopping over your own hypocrisy to deflect? Ok Weak though.
  18. I was merely observing the differences. Graphical enhancements aren't obligatory... I think art design is more important and crucial to the appeal of a game's graphics. Just look at WoW. I also think CDP can get more mileage out of their money because of cheaper labor... so I'm fairly certain W3 will look better than DA3, for what that's worth.
  19. So Yanukovich should have shot all the maidan rebels then, when they were taking over government buildings? And you'd have approved?
  20. It makes sense. The theatrical cut was broken and nonsensical because they made Scott cut out too much. Only when I watched the directors cut did the movie seem complete.
  21. Apparently very very hard, they just keep shoving that bs in most first person perspective games out there and often won't even place a setting for it in options. I just don't get it, it's like they don't understand the differences between mouse and controller. I always check does games force mouse accelerations/smoothings on and won't buy the ones that do as a silent **** you to the devs, even if I would like the game otherwise. Far Cry 3 was the last one I skipped because of that. Maybe I'm not doing something right, there are a ton of people playing it online. I can switch of mouse accel in the game options but the raw input option is bugged - whichever option I pick the mouse feels sluggish, like you're trying to move the cross-hairs through water.
  22. Actually, while I'd have to see it in motion to make up my mind, it still looks like Bioware is playing catch-up with CDProjekt Red. And W2 is 3 years old now.
  23. Tried a bit of Counter Strike Global Offensive. The movement feels floaty and the mouse has some software smoothing that can't be turned off. No me gusta. How hard can it be to remake a fourteen year old game without screwing up the basic FPS mouse settings?
