  1. Well Sapkowski is standard epic fantasy, there isn't all that much specifically Slavic about his prose. The Witcher's candid conversations, a more relaxed attitude towards nudity and a particular brand of "matter of fact" pessimism are definitely Slavic though, maybe a few of the monsters and a bit area design too. I was only passively aware that the game was in production so I went into it without any expectations.
  2. An unknown eastern European developer making a 40 hour RPG as their first game to compete on the world market with Bioware then proceed to sell around 3 million copies of the game by word of mouth.... fiasco? Btw most choices in multi-million dollar projects aren't up to the designers whim. Companies work in the interests of their shareholders and those shareholders break out in cold sweat at the idea that you're investing their millions in experimental ideas. Its the miserable nature of any big business and in this regard Bioware or Bethesda or anyone else big enough is no different. Besides they're making a cyberpunk game and cyberpunk isn't exactly hot stuff now, about 20 years past its peak in popularity. Like Serrano I also don't like their marketing. They blow their own trumpet far too much for my tastes... Like the W3 having 70 awards even though its nothing more than a 5 minute Youtube clip currently. If you want to slam somebody, slam Valve. They're swimming in cash and not a game on the horizon.
  3. You don't discuss things, you put out a royal decree in three words or less and consider that discussion. Witcher 3 - DA3 comparions are valid since CDP's games are obviously influenced by Bioware and they're "the only (AAA) game in town". They literally have nothing else other than each other to compare to. And I wasn't discussing the Witcher in particular, I was pointing out that CDP has overtaken Bioware regarding graphics quality because I'm fresh from Witcher 2 and was blown away by how much better it looks than everything else and Bioware is neither small nor poor. If you'd have bothered to read the "What are you playing now" thread I wrote down and explained many of W2's flaws in detail, so I can hardly be offended by your single word opinions unsubstantiated by anything.
  4. What annoys people is not that you're bashing something or other, its that half of the things you say make no sense. Most people on these boards, even those that don't like the Witcher wouldn't go so far as to say its a crap game. If they did they'd probably offer an explanation. You're just a broken record of short, out of context responses, like a counter strike bot stuck trying to move into a wall, angry for reasons known only to yourself. Ultimately what annoys people most is that you are capable of human interaction but refuse to participate in it like everyone else, in effect disrespecting everyone you come into contact with for no reason at all.
  5. I agree about South Park, the latter part of the game drags and is less interesting than the beginning and the middle.
  6. So they're really there. So much for the legitimacy of Kiev, using mercenaries against their own people.
  7. The difference between two cuts is 50 minutes of added material! Studios generally hate to put movies longer than two hours in the theater and will exert pressure on the director to keep around that length. The DC of KoH is 194 minutes, completely unacceptable for a theatrical release, unless you're Peter Jackson or something.
  8. I tried Shadow Warrior and I think I quit it quickly on account of how badly optimized the game was. It ran badly on my brand new laptop regardless of the graphical options: My rig: Intel Core i73632QM 8gig RAM Radeon HD8750M Regardless of the fact that its mobile architecture the game should have run blisteringly fast on this machine.
  9. Or NWN. Wait
  10. I enjoyed both but Stalker is the more atmospheric series for me. New Vegas had too much silliness in it and I dislike the ES engine and combat although it certainly works much better with guns than it does with medieval weapons. I'm going to play Shadowrun next and after that ME3 with all the DLC's and such (friend of mine says its much better than the vanilla experience). Then I'm done with RPG's until something new and interesting shows up.
  11. So Yanukovich should have shot all the maidan rebels then, when they were taking over government buildings? And you'd have approved? No, I think they should be muslim, then you'd have no problem with it. Hopping over your own hypocrisy to deflect? Ok Weak though.
  12. I was merely observing the differences. Graphical enhancements aren't obligatory... I think art design is more important and crucial to the appeal of a game's graphics. Just look at WoW. I also think CDP can get more mileage out of their money because of cheaper labor... so I'm fairly certain W3 will look better than DA3, for what that's worth.
  13. So Yanukovich should have shot all the maidan rebels then, when they were taking over government buildings? And you'd have approved?
  14. It makes sense. The theatrical cut was broken and nonsensical because they made Scott cut out too much. Only when I watched the directors cut did the movie seem complete.
  15. Apparently very very hard, they just keep shoving that bs in most first person perspective games out there and often won't even place a setting for it in options. I just don't get it, it's like they don't understand the differences between mouse and controller. I always check does games force mouse accelerations/smoothings on and won't buy the ones that do as a silent **** you to the devs, even if I would like the game otherwise. Far Cry 3 was the last one I skipped because of that. Maybe I'm not doing something right, there are a ton of people playing it online. I can switch of mouse accel in the game options but the raw input option is bugged - whichever option I pick the mouse feels sluggish, like you're trying to move the cross-hairs through water.
  16. Actually, while I'd have to see it in motion to make up my mind, it still looks like Bioware is playing catch-up with CDProjekt Red. And W2 is 3 years old now.
  17. Tried a bit of Counter Strike Global Offensive. The movement feels floaty and the mouse has some software smoothing that can't be turned off. No me gusta. How hard can it be to remake a fourteen year old game without screwing up the basic FPS mouse settings?
  18. If I really wanted to watch biased, untrue, anti-western videos I would just watch one of the many declarations of war by one of the various Al-Qaeda associated groups that are common on the Internet if you want to find them The biased and untrue anti-western videos comprised of recorded conversations of western politicians, whose authenticity was confirmed by those same politicians The troll is strong in this one
  19. I sometimes wonder if Ridley Scott had any idea what his movie was about. Blade Runner is one of my favorite films, I've watched it many times, including the new cut. The core of the story only makes sense if Deckard is a human: the idea that an android could learn the meaning of forgiveness and humanity - that which the human protagonist forgot is the "soul" of the movie, the culmination of the cautionary tale that is BR, If Deckard was a replicant all that is thrown out in favor of one of those stupid plot twists you might find in a Spanish soap opera: "and then he found out he's his own father" indeed *snort*. I think he's just muddying the water to keep the controversy going. I can't take him seriously when he says Deckard is a replicant, its too pointless and too stupid. I can't take him seriously post BR either, because he hasn't made a single thing worth a damn - and Prometheus is possibly the worst film I've seen in my life.
  20. ^ Thank you Dark Souls, for making action RPG combat like drunk sumo wrestling in mud, Warhammer 40K for rampant steroid abuse among PC's and the new shooter generation for their ****ty brown and gunmetal grey world.

  22. This shows how the maidan crowd literally burned the people in Odessa alive: http://scgnews.com/odessa-massacre-evidence-the-mainstream-media-wont-show-you-warning-disturbing-footage
  23. I beat Witcher 2. The two key things dragging this game down more than anything else are: trying to mechanically repeat the spontaneous elements of the first game and that its half a game. The first Witcher was a self contained story with some hooks left over that a sequel could use. Judging by the outcome of the Witcher 2, a third game was at that point planned and they were probably written together. As such the main arc of W2 falls flat - the outcome is less important, less relevant than it should be. Its entirely lore driven, instead of being driven by at least the main character if not the large cast of supporting characters (none of which are much more than their position in W2 politics). The only character that's developed and interesting is Letho and he shows up at the end like Morgan Freeman to explain the whole double and triple crossing everyone's been doing in the game. But the problem is that these politics are simply not interesting enough for the player - and not even for the player's character. I addressed the subtle changes Geralt has undergone for the worse, but probably the most problematic is the lack of a neutral option in this game. In the first one you could pick your side..or no side at all. It was a good idea. Now you're forced into picking a side, playing along in a conflict that's of no personal importance to you. For a series that places maturity on such a high pedestal, there are precious few mature decisions to make. I suspect the game went through substantial cuts. The three principal areas are actually rather small and their length is padded by corner to corner running for quests and a lot of mobs. Many of the quests are in effect one and the same as the main quest and directly tied to it in progression which leaves few real side quests. That was the price of such a good looking game. My girlfriend who is running around Vizima currently, remarked that the quest hubs in W2 were like a backdrop (in the theatrical sense), in other words lifeless and fake, the third act one especially. I enjoyed some of it, other parts were flat out frustrating. Some things they changed just for the sake of changing them and naturally botched it completely. From small silly things, like allowing the dice poker dice to roll out of the playing area and then not to count in your hand (Why?!), to the inventory and character screens I mentioned before. I waited them out and paid a symbolic price for the game. It was worth it overall, there is nothing like it on the market - but if I paid full price for it I'd be pretty unhappy. Not "I want my money back" unhappy, but disappointed that they succumbed so quickly to the typical mistakes sequels make. Bigger /= better, and some problems can't be solved by high production values and throwing money at them.
  24. wouldn't say that it had an "authentic approach" to romance neither... pretty far removed from authentic. 500 miles and across a mountain range removed from authentic. that being said, while we thinks authentic romance is better than twilight as source material, amentep brings up the excellent point that the women friends o' his who is reading the romance books is not reading for authentic-- they want fantasy. dave is in the business o' selling fantasy. as such, authentic may not serve dave all that well either. *shrug* dunno. maybe Gromnir is wrong, but we thinks twilight is not appealing to adult notions o' romance, fantasy or otherwise. is our opinion that twilight romance is deserving o' those criticisms dave hates seeing level'd at bio romances: juvenile, puerile, insipid, and seriously f'd up. that is why we would hope dave doesn't let the effectiveness o' twilight romances with fourteen-year old girls mentally poleaxe him into adopting twilight gimmicks for his writings. on the positive side, dave did seem to thinks twilight's positives were largely limited to romance. if he keeps trite twilight melodrama limited to the romances, we not care one bit. HA! Good Fun! I was talking about the movie "Her" but then you may be aware of that. Can't tell from your response. The dynamic in "Her" is essentially lonely awkward guy falls for the equivalent of an teenager. She's an "AI" but basically you could put an infatuated teenager in her place and you'd get the same outcome. The outcome is that she grows up and moves on and he doesn't although the ending scenes implies that a more natural relationship might be in his future.
