  1. mushrooms and shallots, apparently. i'm replaying NWN2:OC going for an ASoC build, which was not available when i originally did the game. yes, as i said, i'm out of games to play and i'm bored now. i'm at home today watching the squirt (uh, not really watching him, just home being "responsible") so i figured i'd give it a whirl. taks
  2. perhaps, but it is also "short" for john, which has never made sense to me, either. taks
  3. taks

    *gasp!*

yes, and he was last seen about half an hour ago viewing the board. probably spying on calax, IMO. that's what he'd do, hide, then spy, and maybe send strange PMs from alt accounts like "i am the walrus" and other such spooky messages. taks
  4. damn. i've got the ISO, but i just realized that i have no DVDs with which to burn it. hmmm... got a DVD burner, would it make sense that i never bought any burnable DVDs? i don't rightly know. taks
  5. i'm staying home today. john's cough is bad enough to warrant keeping him home and he gurfed his cough medicine after breakfast to make matters worse. good excuse to be a bum. the SBIR list is out... i may take a look. i may nap. who knows? taks
  6. so what's the point, gorgon? can't a problem simply be a problem on it's face without some unrelated problem to relate to? it's different enough that you might have simply said "yeah, but bush was worse." zero connection. why not just accept the fact that legislation such as this is not only wrong-headed, but outright dangerous. in reality, "they" want a "sustainable planet" (whatever that is), which ultimately means significant reductions in population. so really, they don't care that man is part of nature, even if they understood that concept, because man is the problem, plain and simple. nor do they feel any remorse when their agenda gets in the way of anyone's life. taks
  7. not here, maybe in some south american or african tribal areas you can. i've, uh, "heard" people taste bad anyway. ridiculous strawman, gorgon. taks
  8. that's sustainability at work. taks
  9. the last mimzy. a cute sci-fi adventure that revolves around 2 kids. time travel is involved. entertaining, but certainly does not make an attempt at "realistic" concepts of time. taks
  10. not sure how either qualifies as "short for" since both cases the "shortened" name has the same number of letters and syllables. taks
  11. it would only cost a third less because the actual cost is pushed off on the private. once the whole system is nationalized, the true costs will be realized. this is such an extremely weak argument that frankly, i'm surprised anyone would make it. since when is abrogating one person's rights to favor another through the use of force moral? yeah, there's a moral argument to be made, but the position you've taken here is not moral in any sense that i know of. taks
  12. isn't john just short for johnathan? my son is john. we don't let people call him johnny or johnathan. his grandfather was john, too, though aunt margaret always called him johnny. there's a hole in the bucket dear liza, dear liza, there's a hole in the bucket dear liza a hole. then fix it dear henry, dear henry then fix it dear henry fix it! taks
  13. beer lunch at trinity again today. i had the awaken stout (nitrated) and the chi golden speciale. mac and cheese bread bowl (filled with salmon, shrooms, and tomatoes) with belgian fries (chipotle "veganaise" dip), and a cheese plate appetizer (with some other stuff on it). mmm... almost time to leave for pool. playoffs start tonight. we're either last, or 2nd to last and everyone is playing like ass, so i'm not hopeful: we're dooooooomed. taks
  14. yeah, yesterday was my first ohfer. gfted1 did challenge again, however, which at least gave me a win for the day. the hammer rules. ahem. taks
  15. i've been fighting windows all day. i have a program i'm installing that simply hangs the system. i got to the update (to install the latest service pack), and it was even worse. i ended up having to uninstall mcafee because it won't allow me to use msconfig to adjust my startup, which is filled with the usual bloat suspects. sigh... i've restarted the system 10 times in the past hour now. fortunately, the SP update is at 99%! woohoo! oh, in relation to this thread, i'm hoping that THIS PROBLEM goes away with 7. windows is a pain when something locks up, and it is difficult to kill the offending programs. that's bad design, IMO. i particularly hate adobe PDFs that get embedded into IE. argh. taks
  16. indeed. i don't think they stare at you mockingly, either. none of the milk crates, aristes, i think they're still illegal to own in the US. taks
  17. cates do make a party, don't they? taks
  18. yeah, it's a walsausage-fest. personally, i don't prefer to worry about chicks during parties. i'm much more interested in good beer and good conversations (which seem to get better after many good beers) during social situations. of course, i'm married, too, so that tends to jade my view. taks
  19. $400 or so for the full versions. i guess the server versions could be more expensive. i have bought winders a few times, but managed to find deals. i think i paid around $200 or so for xp pro and just over $100 for xp home. red-headed step-children always pay more, from what i understand. wishful thinking, gfted1. taks
  20. i don't see how intel can complain. they need MS as much as MS needs them. one of the advantages of linux, btw, is the increased chip support. taks
  21. 38% downloaded at this point. hitting about 480 kB/s so it will be another hour before finishing. i'll play with it on saturday. my plan is to put 7 on this rig, then move XP Pro (current OS) to my wife's rig, then move XP Home (her current OS) to my son's rig which is currently running win2k. hmmm... maybe i'll just shift XP Pro to john's rig. he needs XP to play the online games he likes. win2k doesn't work with the latest flash i think. fortunately, i don't have much to back up. i can probably get everything i need backed up to fit on a CD. i don't generate many files now that i'm done with school, and i don't download much anymore either. i agree, mkreku, vista sucked. it's on my laptop, which gets turned on only to log my students' grades. i suppose i can grade their labs on it, too, but usually i just pull them up from here. taks
  22. i'm out of games to play. i can't bring myself to finish M&M6 because the tomb of varn is just soooo boring and tedious that even my 6-year old child got tired of it. maybe if i played it drunk or something... finished MoW. not sure i want to do the evil path yet. soz is still trudging along, but i don't want to play it out at the moment. sigh... FO3? not sure if post apoc is my thing. i tried 1 and 2 and was unimpressed. sorry fanbois, just not my cupotea (of course, playing the BGs first may have influenced my opinion on the FO games). taks
  23. the companion choices are rather odd. those you listed are it, too, regardless of which path you take. influence behaves strangely, btw. almost counter-intuitive sometimes. my guess would be that this game is rather difficult if you do not have an arcane spellcaster as your PC. i played on wimp mode and it seemed that many of the group spells (missile storm, in particular) are a requirement. no, it is not a solo/duo thing, even in wimp mode. i agree, i did not feel cheated. some of it i really liked, and in the end, it was simply a fun romp. not too complex to require you to pay attention to every detail, but enough to keep it interesting. i suppose it is a bit linear, but for such a short game, that is almost to be expected. taks
  24. remember pidesco, run down the street, not across the road! taks
  25. me too. blows chunks. apparently this guy is ranked #1: jesper.nu.mybrute.com almost 30,000 pupils and his master is only level 9! he has the problem with pupils not always providing exp., too. i added 2 today and neither provided any bonus, thought noob2this actually won a couple for a change. Duum Bass did OK, too, i think. taks
