  1. ply you with booze, do thing to/with you... uh, huh, i see how it is. taks
  2. if you pay attention, you might glean the ultimate means by which you can pick up chicks: be yourself while discussing mushrooms with shallots. i thought that was obvious. married, with a child, awaiting the next run through the sack with the wife, too. taks
  3. well, they're like a piece of meat, without actually being meat, so they have a broad appeal which includes vegans and vegetarians. you cook 'em like a steak, too, though not quite as long. taks
  4. apparently it is not really known, as i've heard other suggestions as well. every woman i've ever known loves shrooms, but typically only cooked (my wife won't put them on a salad but she eats anything i cook). i would talk about mushrooms, since i like them. shallots, too. yup. i like cooking, too, but i'm not that imaginative. taks
  5. agreed, actually. i've met a few people i've known from online. they are always different "live" than they are on the net. taks
  6. about 7 hours from me. yeah, colorado is that big, or that hard to travel through. either way, mesa verde is near the 4 corners off of hwy 160. we've been through cortez, which is the nearby town, but were on our way to the grand canyon and did not have time to stop. when are you there? i'll be nearby july 2nd through 12th. we're backpacking the 6th through the 10th in the weminuche which is about 180 miles away. taks
  7. 64 victories now. just went up to level 9 after 2 out of 3, and got 7 more HPs (81 now). some guy got me before i even had my hammer out. you bastard!!! taks
  8. my gawd. how'd you get to level 11 - pupils or just playing since 1972? i have 62 wins now i think, but that apparently doesn't count the times when someone else challenges you and you win. taks
  9. coming through CO on hwy 70? when will you be in CO? taks
  10. only if you are not doing anything and you have sufficient water and shelter which generally take effort to acquire. considering in any attempts at getting food, making shelters, weather effects, wandering around lost, etc., and 3 weeks quickly turns into 10 days. this also assumes gfted1 doesn't find himself an equally hungry bear as a playmate, hehe. taks
  11. think you'd last that long, eh? we camp religiously over the summer. since i'm probably losing my driver's license for 3 months beginning next thursday (i speed too much), i won't be playing pool on fridays much. that just means more camping - at least 8 weekends between memorial and labor days, probably more. usually we are in federal campgrounds, so we aren't really "roughing it," but we do a 4-5 day backpack trip around the 4th through the weminuche (near the rio grande headwaters) which is truly back country. bears and mountain lions are a concern, but fortunately they don't really like people and tend to stay away from trails during daylight hours. this year i think we're hiking up squaw creek trail to outside of silverton. we'll catch the train into silverton and then scream for someone at the base-camp to pick us all up. i also think i'm going to take my son up into the rampart range (just over from pike's peak) to do a short backpack trip - we'll hike in a couple miles then set up camp for 2 nights and hike back out when it's done. the problem with doing something like that with a 6-year old is that you end up becoming a sherpa for the squirt's gear. taks
  12. last time i checked, expecting a cellphone to work in an extremely remote area is foolish/unrealisitic. cell phones only have an effective range of a few miles. this limitation is not directly due to power (though maximum power is limited to not much farther than that), but the length of the codes they use. after a certain period (depends upon the system), the codes repeat, so someone that is outside the range looks as if he is actually sitting much closer, so the cell site commands the cell phone's power down (gain control at the cell attempts to make everyone come in at the same power to avoid what is known as the near-far effect, i.e., phones that are real close can drown out those that are far away). soooo... what this means is that if you are outside of range your phone simply won't be able to talk to the cell because the cell site told your phone to output a power level that is too low, which makes it worthless (so it is indirectly power, though your phone only has enough power at maximum output to work on a busy network for a few miles past range anyway). not sure who would want something like a phone on a backpacking trip anyway. maybe a two-way radio for emergencies. if you're on a trail, there's no such thing as remote, either. we ran into several groups while in the weminuche last summer, and one group on horseback helped us out with a quick glance at a map (yeah, we forgot to bring a hard-copy of a map, that will be different this summer). this was all at 12,000 feet near pyramid mountain during a thunderstorm (the horses were freaked out). the weminuche is located in the least densely populated county in the entire US of A, btw. of course, the colorado trail and the continental divide run right through it, but still... taks
  13. hmm, maybe "beautiful" is what it is supposed to be? dunno italian at all (it's not just rusty). porcinis are better shrooms than portabella/os anyway. my typically affordable shroom of choice is the ****ake, but you have to waste half the weight tearing off the stem, so i guess they are coming in at over $30/lb., too, much like morels. taks
  14. oof, that hurt just looking at the picture. did he heal? taks
  15. i've got pretty low HP, 2 dogs, 2 weapons, 3 skills, and i'm not even 9th level yet. i also have a maxed out speed and a high strength, but a low agility. one of my pupils has a few skills and finally just got a weapon, but he still sucks. i'm not sure how much of it matters, actually, and i know the actual "fight" is over immediately. if you don't want to watch all you have to do is click the start button a second time (before it begins the match) and it will take you back to the cell, and you can see the result. taks
  16. either, actually, as they are both really marketing terms (you can do a search and find discussions about it, btw). my italian is rusty, but i believe it means "fat cap," which is just a marketing ploy to make a large crimini sound fancy, which it does. ^walsh: my point previously did not really miss the point, even though i concentrated on meeting proper women in general. the point that i did not make clear is that "the greatest conversation ever" is really, IMO, just a conversation in which you are being honestly you. that is all. if it happens to work, then you will have a better idea that the one you've met is either a) ugly, because personality and looks rarely come together (ba dum dum!) or b) actually worth talking to and eventually working on the greatest conversation ever on the spot. taks
  17. are you burnoutboi? i didn't watch that one it till just now so i couldn't comment. the system was down for maintenance when i first saw your post. um, yeah, kor, you nearly had me! 3 more wins just now, too. that's something like 10 or 11 in a row. i added another pupil, Duum Bass. he is adding to my experience and won half his matches. better than noob2this and youngun both at 10% or so. taks
  18. any, and all, socialist programs will eventually require rationing. that is a fact of life that results from the law of supply and demand. health care is no different just because you want it to be or because it is necessary. taks
  19. excuse me? how do you know that if you don't pay? the system you have is not comparable to what i was referring to anyway. YOU are talking balls. ^wrath of dagon: what compassion misses is the actual logic that compassion refuses to understand or admit. people are not the ones that choose more medical because they can afford it (though some will, they are not the bulk of the problem, nor what i was referring to). taks
  20. one of my favorite side dishes is sauteed ****ake mushrooms and shallots in a cream sauce. IMO, portabella/o mushrooms aren't fancy, btw, they are simply large crimini mushrooms, but they taste pretty good in general. morels would be fancy. taks
  21. the hammer thingy? it's badarse, that's for sure. i made a few pupil doods and, well, they are the flip of taksm. not sure why the one guy wins so much and the others lose so much, but what the heck. taks
  22. well, 64-bit XP does not have the limitation. it's not an XP thing, it's a 32-bit vs. 64-bit OS thing. keep in mind, your release candidate OS is going to be a nightmare when it comes to driver support. taks
  23. taksm has won like 7 or 8 in a row (can only see the last 7). he has 59 victories in 28 days i think, so he's averaging more than 2 wins per day (and i missed a few days). taksm is brutal. he now has hypnosis, too, which allows him to take pets and 6th sense which doesn't seem to do anything. i've only seen him do the hypnosis a few times, but it works. taks
  24. first, the premium you paid was more than what you paid with your employer, but the actual premium your employer paid was MUCH higher. typically employees only pay 10% to 25% of the premium (perhaps more in a smaller company). this is because insurance companies accept everyone, regardless of risk, into company paid programs. they can afford this, sort of, by spreading the risk around to all the employees in the big group plans. next, think about this for a minute: now, insurance companies will be guaranteed payment for every employee in the US. demand suddenly goes through the roof (everyone can afford it now), so what happens according to the law of supply and demand? hint: when you "give" everyone money, that money becomes worthless. something similar happened in gold rush towns (with all products). the idiots in charge do not understand basic economic theory, period. they will bankrupt us. taks
  25. i posted my review in the MoW thread. not long, but sufficient to point out what i thought. taks
