I wish I had given the games more of a try. Played for about 10 minutes, couldn't figure out how to attack, so I gave up because I didn't like being killed so much. Much like Morrowind. Played for about an hour, then the crappy combat, crappy dialogue, complete lack of plot, crappy character graphics, and pretty much just boring gameplay alltogether made me give up. Anyway, when it comes down to BG vs Fallout, it pretty much comes down to this IMO PST>FO2>BG2=FO>BG

Where would you send a game concept/script?
Oerwinde replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
There was a developer here in vancouver, I think it was Radical, that had a really good policy. Apparently when you pitch a project internally, you have to give up the rights to the idea. If they use it they have to credit you, but you can't take it anywhere else. This leads to people hordeing their ideas because they're afraid it will be rejected and they'll lose it. Radical decided that if they let their employees keep their ideas if its rejected, then more employees would bring their ideas forward and they'll end up with more potential IPs. Personally, I don;t know why more companies don't do this. -
Theres a really good moment at the end when Matt and Foggy are talking where Foggy asks Matt why he's so beat up, and Matt responds with "Well, rule number one is, I can't talk about it, and rule number two is, I can't talk about it."

Well at least its not like when IPLY closed down the community forums and like 80% of the regulars left.

What if they announce TSL is delayed for PC
Oerwinde replied to Zach Morris's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
If they announced a delay, it better mean that they were adding content. Either way, I'd be glad, it would give me time to get a job so I could afford it. -
They weren't rumors, they were dev posts, stating that upgrades were definitely in the game.

I say build it in the desert in China. that way if something goes wrong, nothing really gets hurt. Its not cold fusion so theres still that chance of a meltdown. If I remember right that is. Anyway, I also say China because they're heavily reliant on Coal, and reducing their coal reliance means craploads less pollutants in the air. Edit: Ok, no possibility of meltdown, just tritium or coolant leaks. Edit #2: Crazy... the US and Canada pulled out of the project at the end of 2003... wonder why...

Actually, the director was complaining about how much the studio made him cut more than a month before it was released in theaters. The directors cut adds a whole new subplot, which makes some things make more sense, adds character development stuff, and adds back in all the swearing the original had(which is why its now rated R, its only 3 or 4 times, but I guess that was enough for the MPAA)

Hey, at least its not as bad as the Superhero Hype boards. You're limited to a 32x32 avatar until you reach 5000 posts. Then you can have a 120x120 one.

I'd like Feargus to go to MCA and be like "Ok, what do you want to do, draw up a proposal and I'll shop it around." Maybe he could bust out that high school RPG he wanted(unless that was a joke). Cash in on the Sims crowd.

And what makes you think they'll want to keep the core fans interested? I mean, we have proven to be a pain in the ass and very hard to satisfy. If I was a game company CEO I would aim the game to the large 'casual gamer' masses first, then to the 'core' gamers. All that is in the realm of speculation, anyway. What I do know though, is that they're not going to sacrifice sales in order to keep the game 'true' to what the 'core' fans think Fallout is (or should be). And I can't help but agree with that... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just feel that if core gameplay features are removed, then its not really a sequel, its a spinoff. Much how MOO3 isn't really the sequel to MOO2 because they changed the gameplay to the point that it isn't recognizable as a MOO game.

I agree, the squad control interface was rather clumsy. That's what happens when you try to adapt a single char, TB combat GUI for real-time squad combat. But that has nothing to do with SPECIAL not being compatible with real-time. I must have missed the stone in which that was written. That's exactly the same (and only, actually) reason for bashing FOT I've heard so far. Not good enough for me. And um, if that's how you think, perhaps you'll be disappointed by FO3. I don't think they're going to make it TB. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The whole FO=TB isn't a reason why SPECIAL can't be adapted to real-time, its just a reason why I didn't really bother with FOT's real time after finding out it was crap. So far there have been what? 3 games that adapted SPECIAL to real time? Or did FOBOS not adapt it? Either way, every time they've adapted it to real time, it didn't work. That doesn't mean it can't be, it just means that no one has yet been able to successfully. And FO3 doesn't have to be fully turn based, it just has to be balanced for turn based. If they add in a real-time option for people who are like "OMG TURN BASED = TEH SLOW!" I won't mind, as long as theres a TB option.

Huh? Why would real time SPECIAL be garbage? FOT was exactly that and it was a great tactical action game IMO. The issues I have with that game were more with the interface than the implementation of SPECIAL in an action game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't play FOT in real-time. I played it in turn based, and until you, everyone else I had talked to hated the real-time in FOT. Yep, I know everyone hates FOT's CTB mode. However I have yet to hear a convincing reason other than 'it's not supposed to be that way!'. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just plain couldn't play it. My characters were all dead before I could give them orders. I didn't really want to play it real-time anyway. Fallout is Turn-based, and should stay that way.

Hehe, I bought it before hearing anything about it, simply because it was Transformers. It was ok, the controls were absolute garbage, and because of that I haven't made it past the 2nd level though. I think a TF RPG would be kinda hard to pull off, but I'd buy it anyway

I'm just glad that they didn't go the lame human torch can only ignite his hands approach.

I played FO before FO2, and still liked FO2 more. Well, except the ending.

Too many and only one or two good ones?

Thats OK, you are forgiven Oh, and the explanation: It's subject of much debate, but the general concensus seems to be, that the C in CRPG is the very same C as you find in PC, i.e. Computer, not to be confused with the C in Console. CRPG type games on Consoles sometimes uses the J designation (JRPG) easy to remember as the the J in Console... Confused ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The J in JRPG stands for Japanses, because until Morrowind and KOTOR, the only RPGs on console were Japanese. Any north american games on console the developers considered RPGs were actually classified as "Action Adventure" JRPGs used to be like interactive novels, but now are more like interactive movies, with the addition of too many FMVs and voice acting.

Fallout is probably the best non fantasy RPG. As for strategy games on consoles, well hate to break it to you but a heck of a lot more than on the PC. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I only know of 2 or 3 strategy games on console. And they're considered "Strategy RPG" Then again, it may just be me associating strategy with things like warcraft and civilization.

It looks like he's using pastels to color, which could be taking away some of the detail

My only problem with Dawn of War is the lack of units.
