Ranged versus Melee
Labadal replied to Valorian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I am trying ranged weapons as I am typing this. The arbalest on hard difficulty versus wood beetles: My worst regular attack did 25 damage, most attacks did damage in the 35-50s range. A graze did 13. The fine hunting bow did 7 damage on average. The difference is huge. A regular crossbow did damage in the mid 20s on average. The fine arquebus was comparable to the arbalest in the damage department. I also noticed that the beetle poison takes away 7 hp damage per second. That is a bit much. Half of that would make more sense. I was using a rogue and had reckless assault activated on at all times. An invincibility mode would be nice, so one can test out stuff like this with all spells and weapons. -
I have a love/hate relationship with his books. I read most of them at a young age. They scared the crap out of me, and I would promise myself never to read anything he wrote ever again. Two weeks pass and I am reading another King book. When i was younger, this was the truth:

I use the rogue the least of all my characters. On every run I have done in the BB beta, she is always the one that does the least damage because she is so squishy. She gets a ranged weapon and then she stays back when I play. The abilities she has are useful, but she feels a bit boring to have around. Also, I am not sure when she sneak attacks. She has her advantages, sure, but I miss the laying of traps, being the specialist as a utility character outside of combat and so on. I guess this is because the skill system in PoE differs very much from the IE games. Only five skills is the biggest letdown to me, even if we have known about this for a very long time. The fighters are tanks in PoE. That's the only use I see for them. The first thing I do in every fight, is send him into the heat and then plan from there. I see no reason for him to do anything else. granted, I mostly used my fighter in the same way in the IE games, but I didn't do it in every fight.

I think that having more than one grimoire will help.

The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass by Stephen King. It's been a bit boring for about 30 pages now. I don't care about the character the story is focusing on right now. I guess he'll get to the point soon enough.

Completed Old World Blues. It was decent. Fights were annoying until you got the proton ace. More fetch quests than I wanted to see. I still had fun. There is one technical problem that started today: The game would crash while fast travelling or transitioning into a new area. I have never had this problem before. I hope it was an OWB problem.

/pats Labadal on the back I'm sorry. Lost and Damned has even more unlikable characters than base GTA4. That's okay. When I get annoyed, I will go on a killing spree. Then I can go back to the unlikable characters.

I managed to complete GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony. I liked it but there were a lot of flying and that is not the strong point in GTA games. For the flying mission that required me to destroy the chasing helicopters, I managed to shoot a missile on the first and got lucky with the other two. I made them fly very close to each other and all three of us crashed. Luckily, I could afford to take another hit when they were dealt with. I was so nervous during my landing attempts. It took me about 2 to 3 minutes to properly land the damn thing. Next up is the biker expansion.

Paradox had 18 QA peeps playing this for weeks?
Labadal replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I am not defending Pillars of Eternity but in general, many buggy and unbalanced games have been released before. The Elder Scrolls games on consoles. Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas on consoles. I have seen many games that have had a lot of QA testers but when the game releases, you would think that it was a lie. For Pillars of Eternity, you would at least have guessed that they would have noted the most glaring bugs that were in the backer beta v257. -
I knew it deep down in my heart that you were a gigolo.

Which mission ? Also L2P Scrub. Right now powering Arminia Bielefeld through the Euro Cup. Rather amusing as the game refuses to recognize that my team exists in the voiceovers about the standings (name is a hint). Also the AI's BS cheating makes me think the game was just modified off of NHL 2014. Forgot the name of the mission, but I am supposed to destroy three helicopters that are chasing me. I managed to do it twice but failed the mission while trying to land. I had to quit the game out of fear that I would smash something to pieces.

Failing on a mission repeatedly in Ballad of Gay Tony. I'm now giving my screen an angry look.

What class though? I imagine that wouldn't have been hard with a Chanter, Cipher or Druid PC. A monk. Start battles by using spells and then send the fighter into the fray. Send in monk and rogue to target the same enemy. Others use long range weapons. I do admit that I sometimes did lure smaller groups of enemies to me. Also use stamina regen potions and priest spells at the right time. I equipped my fighter with all the best gear. I remember him having 24 might with equipment. I also solved the "dayghter quest" peacefully, even if I had to kill half of the cultist on my way to her. Note that I knew how to adapt to most encounters as this was not on my first run.

I found them. In the last sentence, the words "administrators" and "moderators" are not clickable on the TSI website.

I want fun. I have played games that clearly have the quality, but aren't fun to play for me. One example would be Uncharted 3. I got bored after beating half the chapters. I was just not having fun any more and stopped playing. What is fun? Either gameplay that keeps me interested or a story I want to see through to the end, I guess.

More Ballad of Gay Tony. 26% completed. I'm having a lot of fun despite crappy GTA controls.

I wonder what the additions to this EE will do to the balance of combat encounters. -
