Americans renouncing citizenship to become British over taxes
BruceVC replied to Guard Dog's topic in Way Off-Topic
Taxes should be one of the last reasons someone from the USA wants to immigrate to the UK. There economic recovery has been much worse and slower than most predicted. Austerity isn't working there as expected, its a similar issue throughout Europe. I love the UK but if you think moving at the moment from the USA will give you an economic advantage you need to reconsider that option. But they are unsurpassed in there knowledge of how to make a killer English Breakfast, so that could be a reason to immigrate? -
Not really, these video's are funny and we have seen some failed KS projects but the reality is also that KS does offer a real financial model for developers to get games funded outside the normal Publisher model. Lets not become cynical and jaded with KS so soon

Well said, thats a good post positioning why we should support Numenera. I find it difficult to fault anything you say @ Gorth How you sleeping at night? Any guilt ravaged nightmares about not pledging towards Numenera? After reading the post above you should have some if you don't support this project

F:NW is brilliant, you'll have loads of these types of events and exciting encounters during the game

A problem with my choice of words. I don't generally like to cheat past censorship (can I turn it off in options?), but the word I really meant to use was "coc.ky". You do remember their (less than?) subtle jabs at Bioware during the various Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition interviews, right? Or their open distaste for publisher interference and control? Their PR and interviews have for a while had this air of "Not only will our game be better than yours, we also have far better business ethics" And I like that attitude. I see what you mean, I agree I think its really commendable that a relatively small company like CPR has been able to create a fantasy franchise that rivals, for many people, the popularity of Elder Scrolls and games like Dragon Age. Its shows what commitment and believing in a vision can achieve in the very competitive market of fantasy RPG.

They might try to generate some extra buzz by throwing Skyrim's name around, but CDProjekt comparing Witcher to other AAA titles, especially RPGs, is nothing new. The devs almost seem to enjoy acting a bit arrogant. How are the Dev's arrogant? They acknowledge Skyrim was a good game and they all played it. But they also mentioned its shortfalls. Criticism and wanting to make a good game is not arrogance. This is the type of interview we should be wanting and expecting.

Guys great news, Metro Last Light is scheduled for a May release . Yaaaaaaay. Its good that the intellectual property of THQ has not only getting bought but also being completed. Metro 2033 was the best post-apocalyptic survival game I have ever played. So this game will be a must buy for me http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/01/mayday-mayday-metro-last-light-releasing-in-may/#more-143967

Gorth lets rather be supportive of this endeavor. Its not like $25 is going to result in you not eating or sleeping in the cold? I understand your point but if W2 is a terrible game and you have also pledged to Numenera all it means is you "lost" $25 but by not pledging anything you could potentially effect the foundation and longevity of this type of initiative " Ask not what Numenera can do for you, ask what you can do for this project" Pledge Gorth, pledge. Its the right thing to do

Sorry I disagree, you can NWN wasn't one of the greatest RPG but to say it was a poor game is just an exaggeration.

Cause it's hard to hold a large, heavy-ish DSLR in one hand (not my good hand, either), over your head, pointing downwards (can't look thru viewfinder) to get a reliable angled shot. And of course as soon as I tried, kitty would probably move. Tho I could just use the mini-vid cam and grab semi-fuzzy stills I suppose. ....suffering a lot of allergies today. Marching around stores and offices sniffling, itchy red eyed and blotchy faced. Blargh. *blows nose* I considered that and its a valid reason, but call your hubby to take the pics Your cats sound cute, it would be great to see some photo's

Nah, its never stopped us in the past. Lets speculate wildly. Also isn't any speculation potentially ridiculous ?

And five minutes later Geralt bangs the barmaid in the abandoned mill. Well we all deal with the nightmare of racism in our own ways, this was to be expected. This makes Geralt normal and someone we should be able to relate to ?

So you have an issue with how the name sounds? Tough crowd, I'm glad we don't nitpick on these forums If the game offers an immersive, enjoyable and complex gaming experience do you think you get over the name or would this still be an issue for you? ( I'm teasing you Kaine but your criticism does sound a little fatuous )

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? “If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody is around to hear it, and it hits a mime, does anyone care?” ― Gary Larson, The Complete Far Side, 1980-1994

Nice, I am big fan of any siren\succubus\nymph type creature. Some good lore you posted They always add this allure yet danger element to a game -
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way most of the time, we are just too good at medically dragging out the lives of people in poor health. Unfortunately? Too good? Dragging out? If one day you or someone you care about is in poor health, and likely would have died without modern medical intervention, I doubt you'll look at it that way. Malcador's statement and attitude is disgusting, and demonstrates an infantile over simplified understanding of what he talks about. I hope you don't share it. Hah, the hell are you talking about ? Was a jab at people sneering at these folk, ultimately in my experience it's boiled down to that concern over any altruistic sense. I think he meant Meshugger? So you are off the hook

It could very well be just a lost in translation thing, but it's here: It's a colloquialism that I usually find jarring when in fantasy games. The moment I saw it, it was so setting breaking for me that I was (perhaps ironically) able to enjoy the writing for the rest of the game, since I was no longer of the opinion that it takes itself seriously. Alan are you sure you were playing the English version of the game? I can completely understand how confusing the writing must have been if you ended up playing the Polish version . It must have seemed unintelligable

You can never have enough cute cat stories, why can't you take pictures?

The Dark Path

Lol Skeletor, what happened to the magic of over the top villains? I use to love Masters of the Universe. I even had the Castle and all the figurines The reason we don't see this type of over the top villains anymore is that Evil has become much more subjective, complex and difficult to define. I prefer more depth to my evil characters in games and books. And people expect that anyway -
People talk about Steam being ineffective addressing issues of fraud. I have a story that I think disputes that About 15 months I bought several games in hard copy format from my local gaming store. One of them was Dead Island , anyway I installed it and then proceeded to register the game on Steam. I received a concerning message " this code has already been registered by someone in an East European country, please contact Steam support " Amazing that someone had "hacked" a registration code as obviously my copy and code was legitimate. Anyway I contacted Steam support and was told they could help but I needed to scan the original receipt and user manual with the registration code and email it to them I never keep my slips but luckily the software store could find the transaction and gave me a copy. It was an annoyance and inconvenience but end of the day after a 3-4 day delay I was able to play Dead Island.

The use of Heroin or the abuse of another Opiate based drug is not akin to eating a hamburger. Selling something to someone that has close to zero health benefits in most people who is only looking to get high is not the same as selling someone some food (that does have health benefits) that may not be the healthiest thing for them to eat. That said. I'm all for legalizing said drug and most others. Prohibition is not the answer to the problem, and creates far more problems itself. But that is somewhat another subject. And that said, I do think people who profit off of other people's misery are at best, disgusting individuals. However, barring the relatively few instances where someone is coerced or forced to take a drug, drink more than they wanted to, or even eat something unhealthy they wouldn't normally eat, the onus is 100% on the individual who sought out and consumed whatever it is we're talking about. The spokesmen who died of heart disease (if that's what they indeed died of) were dying of heart disease long before they were ever the spokesmen of the restaurant we're talking about. Having a really fat person advertise your restaurant for you isn't exactly bad marketing. It's implied that they liked the food so much they eat a real lot of it. For some this reinforces the idea that the food might be good. While I wouldn't be swayed by it I can tell you after working with dozens for chefs in all manners of restaurants, with no exception in my personal experience (though I'm sure there's a few exceptions out there somewhere), all of the best chefs had more than a little meat on their bones. Also, there's no relatively common amongst the populace tongue in cheek joke that heroin will get you high and kill you, as there is that a great burger and fries is a heart attack meal like there. The marketing is based on that joke. The potential marketing you describe for heroin would not be. Indeed. I haven't had a good burger in ages, and now I want one after this thread. I may go find Five Guys later today (the best burger around where I currently am, but no where near as good as what you can find in Vegas). Exercise is really the key. You can eat a real lot of greasy food like burgers and fries if you get the exercise to burn that fat off. Fat is actually very good for you as long as you make use of it. Of course, if that's all you eat you're going to be in trouble in the long run. But that is true of just about everything. Variety is not only the spice of life, in meals it's key to living healthier along with exercise. My apologies for the formatting. Apparently multi-quoting now squashes text on this forum. I appreciate your detailed response, I don't agree but thats fine. We all have our opinions on this matter and how this restaurant chooses to market itself and promote there food. End of the day the owner Jon Basso will have a lot to answer to when he leaves this world. For me he is one of the worst types of people, he is enriching himself on the vices and addictions of others and the effect to there health is irrelevant to him. He has turned this crisis of obesity into something that can be packaged and legally sold and he jokes about it. It is truly depraved, but its his life and unfortunately he will continue to encourage certain people to lead both a harmful and unhealthy lifestyle

Yeah, yeah Hurlshot I'm onto you my friend. You just thinking how great its going to be to see those hot ladies in there nurses outfits when you visit Vegas on your hockey tour. Its okay Hurlshot, you are amongst friends. You can be honest
