  1. I have just finishing watching War Horse, its brilliant and masterfully directed as it typical of Steven Spielberg. The one scene you see of the charge across No Mans Land captures accurately the horror, futility and bravery of the battles of the First World War. Its sad in some parts, a bit of a tear-jerker but I recommend it. 8/10
  2. I think it's like the TV show Medium, it's filled with stupid and nonsense, but the characters are believable and relatable. There's a lot of "normal" varied people, that may remind you of real people you know. TLJ is one of the best adventure games, Stark is a storied placed, it's got an industrial European town feel, and a Blade Runner style old and new synergy, Arcadia is like a cliché fairy tale (think Trine/Trine 2) that can be quite funny like the character Horatio and interesting in the case of the speciated dragons that are symbiotic. The gameplay is competent, with Myst style puzzles, and inventory puzzles, one is notorious for possibly being the worst such puzzle ever made. Dreamfall is like that, with the stupid dialled up to Indigo Prophecy levels, and all the voice "actors" speaking like they're drama school students out of character. Probably the worst stealth and combat gameplay I've ever played, but it's trivially simple, I think they wanted to do an adventure game but were pressured into adding action elements they clearly didn't have the experience or talent to do. If Beyond Good and Evil is a 8, Dreamfall is a 2. They say the story is mature and challenging, I can't say I agree at all. TLJ has mature "themes", like a character that swears a lot, a sexist character, and a sexually aggressive character. I think Dreamfall has swearing. It's not mature or challenging in the sense that it approaches subjects with respect and intelligence, it's really simplified, with a lot of stuff not making much sense. Thanks for the comprehensive reply You have given me some excellent information I love the TV series Medium and based on what you have mentioned I'll start with the first one
  3. Okay so Dreamfall did make it easily. Nice one Its obvious that this saga has a loyal fan following, I have never played these games before so what about them is so good? I have read that they are deep and exciting adventure games but what are the reasons that you enjoyed them, if you have played them of course
  4. What book are you reading that captivated you so much? A slightly whimsical semi-steampunk/alternate history style novel called "Etiquette and Espionage". In early Victorian England (in a world with steampunk and vampires and werewolves involved in politics), a young girl with a certain tomboy flair is sent off to finishing school. Only to find said school is a caterpillar-like dirigible, and the finishing school includes lessons on; poisoning, intelligence gathering, knife work, how to faint in a manner to attract a target's attention at a ball and no-one elses, how to manage the house-hold accounts so you can order the steak and the strychnine on a low budget, and other such assorted things alongside the more normal posture, dance, history, fashion and culture. "At Mademoiselle Geraldine's, young ladies learn to finish...everything. Certainly, they learn the fine arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but the also learn to deal out death, diversion, and espionage--in the politest possible ways, of course." Sounds good, its my type of read. I'll look it up
  5. What book are you reading that captivated you so much?
  6. No. But there are plenty of nude orc female mods, apparently. Because that is just so wildly arousing, boar-faced green women: Are you saying you don't find female orcs hot? Thats a little racist don't you think
  7. I have to honest I am missing this one? Whats its purpose, whats its name, how does it attack etc Or is this some joke that is clearly over my head? We aren't roleplaying that we are creating monsters. We really are creating monsters. Fantasy games are LALA land anyway. NEW C REATURE DESIGNB http://i.imgur.com/FCGf0ND.png It lurks the swamps and was born a lost species. Okay I see, makes sense now

  9. I went back to that interview as I had missed it, and you are right its very insightful . I notice they mention that the new Geralt will be obviously older and quite possibly less interested in sexual encounters
  10. I thoroughly enjoyed Alice, I loved the various levels and the artistic interpretation of the original Alice world. Each area really had its own weird characteristics. Also the narrative was dark and compelling. It funny how we can differ on the mechanics. Once I use to the controls I started loving the jumping and floating components of the game, I guess we all have different views
  11. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/02/15/comparing-the-open-world-of-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt.aspx Guys here is some new information on Witcher 3 and the open world component. Watch the video
  12. Another good usage of this type of monster, and yes I believe there was a monster called that Also, going back to Fighting Fantasy, remember the Gongchong (spelling) from Island of the Lizard King. It was a parasite that enhanced the Lizard Kings powers but ultimately controlled him. It looked like a spider and attached itself to the hosts head like some kind of deformed crown
  13. I have read the books, " The Unbeliever". My memory about the series isn't that good. Good monster though, loads of narrative idea's. Imagine having to give up the additional powers or realizing the parasite is actually stealing your life force and then as you mentioned you may end up fighting your own party member.
  14. I didn't know that was the title of a video game. So, what kind of game is "Metal Gear Rising is available here, but I ain't buying it. Saving money for a rig."? Oh, yes it can. Strange comment Agx, for someone who claims to have mastery of the English language you don't seem to understand basic sentences? He is simply saying he won't be buying the game Metal Gear Solid because he is saving money to enhance his PC. I appreciate this comment because most people won't ever consider not buying a game due to money, they will just Pirate it. So his post reveals loads about his integrity. Remember Agx, "the glass is half full in life, the glass is half full"
  15. Welcome back GB We missed you, I'm glad you enjoyed the rugby. We are passionate about the game. There is nothing better than watching the rugby and having a braai(barbeque) and a few drinks.
  16. Its unusual but I agree with Volourn on this point, its irrelevant what caused it once he killed the daughter and her fiancé of the guy that failed to get him to keep his job. He lost any sympathy and moral high ground the moment he did this. Its like saying " lets try understand the causes of 9\11 because maybe it makes the attack okay". We know why 9\11 was perpetuated and the reasons don't justify what Al-Qaeda did( this is an example, I am not saying you said this). What do you need to understand about a cowardly murder? His manifesto is clear and there for you to read, so I don't get why you think we need to analyze his reasons anymore than we already do? He was a mentally unbalanced individual who posed a serious threat to society. He needs to be arrested or killed. Its not complicated. And, once again, you only read what's in your head and purport that I wrote something I did not. I never defended his actions, nor did I say those actions were justified in any way. I did say we need to understand why this happens. I did not say he should go free because he's "disturbed". I did not say he should not stand trial and I did not say "he's just misunderstood." What I did say is that we should be a little less gung-ho on the "kill the bad man" and a put more effort into capture, arrest and study of his condition. People don't just go crazy for no reason, there's usually a cause and effect, understanding what takes people from "I'm unhappy and upset with this situation" to "I'm going to kill everyone" is pretty important to society. When we know what causes "going postal" then we can perhaps find some way to prevent it's happening. For someone who claims people only read what they want I hope you realize you do exactly the same thing. I never said you said That you felt his actions were justified That you think he should go free That he shouldn't stand trial Its true, read my post again. My point in summary is why do you feel the need to understand his motives when its clear from his manifesto. He was a deranged person who chose innocent people to vent his frustration on. Personally I am more concerned with the families of the victims that were killed, but you are welcome to look for additional meaning around why he murdered people that had nothing to do with his actual issue, the LAPD. Please let me know what you discover. Okay, it's clear that I'm not being understood. I'm aware of the rationalizations he made for his behavior, that is understood. Why those rationalizations suddenly lack enough moral ballast from his conscious is what we do not. For example, when people get angry and might think, I'd like to kill that bastard for a moment. Then, almost as quickly they realize such an outcome is in huge disproportion to how they feel wronged. A person with an ego disorder might not think that, but instead consider the consequences of law or implications of their personal religious doctrine. How that moral off-switch gets flipped is what we really need to understand. He did not kill people at random, but his desire to hurt someone he felt wronged him was so great that he was willing to kill two people who had no direct involvement to exact that revenge. What made them different than the people in the cabin? Both caused him no direct pain but morals were turned on for two of them and turned off for the other two. Now, in response to your post: You didn't say I defended his actions, Volourn appeared to be saying that. The paragraph was indirect and wasn't meant as a tit-for-tat rebuke to specific things. I meant it in spirit as why what I think should be done is not a "moral highground" or an attempt at the "reduction of moral fiber" in society. I wasn't asking for exoneration, which is what some appear to think I was asking for. Edit: I feel for the families of the victims. But, they are gone and can't be brought back. Understanding criminally deranged behavior can and will help potential victims down the road. People lose their jobs all the time, but a very select few go bonkers, what's different? Is it chemical, biological, caused by some similar emotional trauma? Okay I think I understand your point, yes we have misunderstood each other
  17. Good question, she is working on that documentary so I can't see her at the moment as she is too busy
  18. Thats not my intention, I just respect the advice of many people on these forums Visitng an ex on valentine's? Sounds like a bad idea right there. Breaking routine is always good. That's what routines are there for. Food at Hooter's is 'sposed to be good. Valentine's Day is a silly holliday. This is what I wanted to hear, some insight. Whether I agree or not. Thanks Melk This is a serious scandal, good find. I'll be following this story
  19. Happy Valentines Day All So has anyone got any Romantic plans for there partner, or do you feel that Valentines days has become far too commercialized and its just about the retailers making money. Do share your plans? I am in a bit of quandary. My ex-girlfriend works at Hooters and I really feel like visiting her. But if I go to Hooter after work I won't be able to go to gym, I have been to gym 3 times this week so I suppose its not a crisis. I just don't like breaking my routine. And I go to gym at least 4 times a week. If you were me would you go visit her at Hooters or rather leave it till the weekend? Its Valentines day so I am thinking its okay to break my routine?
  20. Very few things make me laugh as much as seeing someone who is arrogant get knocked down a few notches in a game "Pride comes before a fall" . Then when he'd go down and none of us came running to save him, he'd start screaming into his mic, "nice teamwork, guys. Thanks for just letting me die". I don't think I could have contained my laughter if I had been playing when no one came to help him and he then subsequently complained Those are they types of events that I really find funny. For me I would be laughing at the absurdity of the situation. Him boasting in the beginning and then getting "owned"
  21. Some interesting and scathing information around Aliens: Colonial Marines. Its actually funny when you read some of the bugs and issues. Some of them I listed below and its to do with the AI and the way the marines are suppose to accurately update you “One hostile remaining!” booms a marine as we’re surrounded by six or seven aliens. I’ve a feeling I should probably stop listening to their advice. LOOK UP! LOOK UP!” shrieks O’Neal, just after I’ve killed everything in the room Aliens run toward exploding barrels rather than you, but then, they’re somehow invincible to the explosion if they’re not already stood in it when you fire. Fire first and even though there’s a good two second delay, the bang won’t hurt them at all. They know the safest place is by that exploding barrel, the cunning beasts ( this craked me up ) This writing just gets better and better. “Raiders 6-5 will wait for you, but goddammit don’t make us wait for you.” Someone not only wrote that down, but an actor willingly said it out loud ( also hilarious ) http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/13/who-made-aliens-heres-what-we-sorta-know/#more-142273 http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/12/wot-i-think-aliens-colonial-marines-single-player/
  22. Okay, I do know Jack Black. He is hilarious
