Well this really has ended well, with a resounding victory for the gamer, and a black eye for the corrupt media whom wanted Steam to not allow a basic consumer right. I do wonder whether this would have occured before Gamergate, and whether the public actually standing up for their rights, and spurning the regressive press has given the publishers a little more respect for their audience. It's really surprising to see how quickly Warner Bros. stepped in, and an indication of how valuable this audience is to their business. On the celebration of historical revisionism, it's to be expected, Orwell really was a prophet in many ways. No Nonek, GG has nothing to do with this....but maybe it has. Making someones personal details available just seems.....unethical, craven and an unnecessary step ? Sounds like something GG would do...so you probably right

I am of the opinion that Canada should just become part of the great and noble USA ....you guys do share a border and you are very influenced by the USA so what have you got to lose...think of the superior military you will gain ?

To have lived my formative years under communism, yes. The statement "I have lived in a totalitarian* state" is, however, technically correct (the best kind of correct!). *for a given value of "totalitarian" Fair enough, besides I imagine the residual impact of Communism would still have resonated in Hungary for years after 1990 ?

I'm touched by your concern for my levels of understanding regarding the ways a totalitarian state operates, I really am, but I have lived in one, thankyouverymuch. So maybe if you could dial down the condescension, it would be much appreciated. Sorry, it is hard to convey tone over the web. I'm genuinely curious as I realize my perspective may differ from most. Also, you didn't answer my question. I honestly think the term "totalitarian state" is meaningless. There's a huge spectrum of various possible systems of governance with authoritarian attributes (and varying levels thereof); calling all of them "totalitarian" makes the term rather useless. So yeah, personally, I reserve the term for the platonic ideal of the Orwellian nightmare. But alum you would have been too young to live under Communism ?

I'm just pointing out that the complete breakdown of civil liberties people envision as the ultimate and inevitable end result of "restricting freedom of speech in video games" seems not to have happened in Germany (yet). Germans had a very specific reason for banning that topic (although history revisionists will speculate about it) They also had banned any violence against humans in games, I don't know if this still holds true. That said, I'm curious what the First World standard for them to consider a state oppressive is. Because it seems like you people have a very Hollywood idea of what a totalitarian state is. You originally from Cuba right, I imagine you have experienced real dictatorial policies ? Whats your definition?

Okay that really seems a step to far..seriously guys It reminds me of what we going through in South Africa. There is a movement called " Rhodes must fall " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_Must_Fall where a vociferous group of people want to remove any statues and memorabilia associated with colonialism or British history. I have no issues with statues being moved to museums because apparently they are offensive but people want them destroyed and basically they want to change and or become unaware of history Colonialism was a terrible injustice to African people but you cannot deny it happened, it is part of African history. And people like Rhodes represent the good and the bad of that history " Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it." It would be like the Jews deciding the Holocaust never happened and deciding to remove any references to it in there history books. Its counter productive to a progressive future as we learn from our mistakes and the actions that others inflict on us

Volo every single gaming genre can improve and look at ways to be innovative Games should evolve to cater for new audiences, you are right that the GTA franchise is very successful but I don't think that means nothing should be changed The real question is what would be considered meaningful change to grow the fanbase...and I just don't see how removing hookers is going to do that ?

You could quite easily remove Hookers from GTAV and it would make NO real impact to the game, but the question is I haven't seen a valid reason for removing them. If there was a reasonable SJ motivation I would support it but all the justifications are contradictory

I watched the first episode of Dark Matter and I also found it cliched... " another series about a group of people who have no idea who they are and how they got there " The only difference is its set in space, I have never been a big Sci-Fi fan and for me to watch this genre it has to be at least inventive. So I'll be skipping this series The basic archetypes are standard, but... That is unexpected....maybe I should watch episode 2? -
The famous photograph which that statue is based on, was staged, wasn't it? So they didn't actually need so many soldiers to put up the flagpole, the photographer just decided that it looked better... I don't think they don't adorn any official government building/memorial though. I believe the point is they are removing Confederate paraphernalia from places like Walmart yet you can still buy Black Panther goods, it seems inconsistent ?

Is always some fuss about their portrayal in the games. They're just functional NPCs, like the mooks you slaughter, but yet some people get wound up about it. You're going to have a real thin list of things to create a setting with if you're to avoid including people who are abused in RL. I agree, another reason why that Polygon article is misplaced is think of homeless people. They are victims of RL circumstances and you can kill them in GTAV ...so there are many groups of people in GTAV that are victims of some sort of abuse in RL it seems inconsistent to just single out Hookers

Just to be clear what exactly is the issue with hookers in GTAV? The original issue that was raised by Polygon, which I initially agreed with and now don't, was that many hookers are victims of abuse in RL so why include them in game where they get abused/killed by the player What issue with hookers in GTAV are you debating?

So you're okay with people videotaping in secret and without consent (like they did Hogan) and subsequently releasing it to the public as long as the person involved was doing something you declare immoral? That's kind of a despicable position to take, I hope you realize. You're essentially saying that personal rights only matter for moral people and immoral people can have their rights violated because they are immoral. And its only hypocrisy if you seriously think the Zoe Quinn furor is the same as Hogan having sex with his friends wife..and clearly I don't think they are the same. In fact its disingenuous to compare the two incidents I didn't say that what happened was the same. I'm saying that what you are saying is the same that the people who harassed Zoe were saying. Down to the exact words, for ****'s sake. You are literally being the part of #GamerGate that even we can't stand. Oh okay my bad, I wouldn't want to be associated with #GamerGate in anyway so just ignore any parallels you may think I am making I am much more concerned with Kotaku closing down if Gawker closes down
