  1. Its probably because you cant call something the ISIS Caliphate if its not The real ISIS Caliphate, as you know, was a pseudo-state that existed between two almost failed but sovereign countries. It had structure and oil revenue and " borders " during its temporary existence ISIS is an ideological movement so when you find ISIS linked groups, like Al-Shabaab in Somalia, they not called a Caliphate because they dont control official territory. They exist throughout the ME and Africa as militant and sectarian groups But we still very concerned with any ISIS affiliated group and they must be wiped out
  2. I have been very impressed with the massive support both financially and militarily that the US has been giving Ukraine, this has been one of those many examples why I support the US in most of its geopolitical and foreign policy decisions. Ironically if Trump was president I doubt the US would be as committed. Trumps bizarre bromance with autocratic leaders I am sure would have influenced the US aid to Ukraine But then you could argue Putin might not have made the biggest miscalculation of his life and initiated Putins War?
  3. I knew it, so you are teaching CRT...thank you for being honest And most people wouldnt have an issue with teachers getting a gun because you would go on firearms training and you would be a responsible gun owner IMO
  4. And you believe that? Do you remember the days when Trump had influence with Saudi Arabia and he could get them to increase production because he spoke to them?
  5. Yeah a high oil price is great news for everyone, OPEC is a good friend of the third world who suffer the most from inflation. Im sure the invasion of Ukraine is worth it for Russia because at least they make money from oil sales ....great long-term strategy for your country
  6. Im also not a big game park person but many of my family love game drives ....they go on 2x3 hour drives each day when they stay in the bush !!! But SA has many other holiday destinations like beach, mountain and outdoor activities like shark-cage diving and wine farm tours even if you like us and you dont like wilderness\bush holidays to see the big 5 like Rhino and Elephants
  7. Thats a good point, so you saying the media will generally report on the race of the shooter and the victims if their is something like a stated manifesto?
  8. You should discuss coming to SA, you can go on a Safari and do other things unique to an African holiday? And you will be safe so dont think of crime as a reason not to come here plus the $ vs Rand is very strong so your overall costs will be vastly reduced based on what you will get in the EU or Canada
  9. Im looking for some feedback on something I have observed about this latest shooting in the US and how the global media frames these crimes. I am interested in how the local media within your country discusses it I dont believe in conspiracy theories or generalizations that become the truth. But I can comment exactly on how the SA media is covering this compared to the shooting in Buffalo the week before So the Buffalo shooting was raised as " white racist kills black people in another shooting " or something very similar But this Texas shooting has been described as " another mass shooting in US school, pupils are killed "....or something similar But the race wasnt brought up either about the shooter or the victims. I would have expected consistency and the media to frame it as " Hispanic shooter kills white and Hispanic pupils in shooting " So how has your local media framed this Texas shooting and why does race get brought up in one mass shooting and not another?
  10. I hope you not using Sumo wrestlers fatness as an example of " exercise doesnt lead to weight loss " Sumo wrestlers eat food to have this weight and its " healthy " fat...its by design of their lifestyle https://oneshotmma.com/why-are-sumo-wrestlers-fat/ Diet and exercise are how you lose weight. That point should not be a debatable one ?
  11. But dont you think they would lose weight as well? Exercise and muscle gain normally leads to weight loss especially when it comes to obesity which is a huge concern in many US public sector schools What did Hurlshot tell us, 30% of the kids are obese. Thats a problem surly?
  12. Brilliant video and it makes such excellent points. The reality is their is no such thing as an easy solution GD lets use you as example, you are not an extremist in any regard. What are your reasons to object to gun control or your guns being banned by the Federal government ?
  13. What would you say to a US ex-marine who has served his country in conflicts like Iraq and Afghanistan and is a responsible gun owner but has lots of guns Should he agree to gun control even though its a small percentage of gun owners who commit mass shootings and or other crimes? This is where it gets complicated
  14. You raise some good points here and they valid talking points and I believe they do contribute towards the high levels of gun violence and mass shootings we witness in the US
  15. Yes gun control and ease of availability of guns seems the common thread But now it gets complicated, its easy to say " look at what the UK and Oz did after the Tasmanian and Dunblane mass shootings. If the US did what those governments did that would reduce gun violence " and its seems logical except for several differences that include You didnt have the same level of gun violence that exists in countries like SA or the USA in Oz or the UK before they " banned " guns You cant ban guns when their is a real, established and thriving black market for guns because it wont stop criminals buying guns In the US you have active gun smuggling that right-wing and cartel\gang groups can always access even if guns are " banned " And finally gun ownership in the US is Constitutional and cultural in some states so any attempt to implement gun control is seen by many as part of the US culture wars and immediately rejected by many US citizens for both reasonable and irrational reasons
  16. Yes thats a common thread, I think its more complicated than that if you think of anti-Federal groups and gang\cartel violence? So in other words people dont want to die all the time like Timothy McVeigh ..they genuinely have an " enemy " they believe is destroying society and what they doing is somehow acceptable?
  17. I dont know who would benefit because I dont believe living in fear is a good thing. I suppose a government that gets elected because it gets votes to " deal with problem xxx" For example in SA we have several political parties and civic organizations that now call for a real referendum on the death penalty because of the violent nature of our crimes and murder rate I support the death penalty now because I do believe it can be a deterrent but this is not due to fearmongering...we face a crisis with our high crime rate
  18. As far as the reason for mass shootings and gun violence that occur in the US their are several reasons for this that include attention seeking and angry people : like Klebold and Harris in Columbine mentally unstable people : Sandy Hook right-wing\neo-nazi extremism left-wing extremism gang related and cartel related militia and anti-Federal groups: like Timothy McVeigh and Oklahoma City bombing Islamic Extremism Unknown reasons for mass shootings : rare but it happens like the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, motives still unknown So the hard question to all these shootings is what have they all got it common?
  19. Great list, I want to add some of my own points that would make our societies better failed or dictatorial governments that cause mass illegal and legal immigration and no one really calls out these governments or tries to resolve the failed governments citizens living in countries who attribute their definition of inequality with historical injustice and not taking personal responsibility for their lives but will always find time to participate in protests and make demands liberals and the left implementing well meaning social policies, like social grants, that never seem to fix most problems we all grapple with like rising crime and meaningfully changing citizens lived experience entitlement and this view that " government needs to fix all our problems" through socialism and other similar radical left views
  20. I suppose the objective for ending the war is because very few people want it to continue for years. So their is an idea that you let Putin have Crimea and the eastern regions will be independent But Russia must withdrawal from what it has occupied since Putins War started and any land taken, thats the general idea But their is pushback from both sides and from the Ukrainian side they want to drive Russia out of Ukraine completely so at the moment we not close to finding peace
