This virus is rearing its head again in SA, we just got back from our mountain Easter getaway and one of my brothers after flying back to Cpt started getting flu symptoms and he tested positive. I drove up with him for 2 hours in a car and we spent the whole Easter weekend together. And yesterday my sister started complaining about a sore throat yet her fiancé feels fine. We now all flying back to Cpt today because we dont want to stuck in Durban recovering from Covid I feel fine but incubation takes 2-7 days normally so I will know in the next week or so But next week I was supposed to go to JHB for 5 days with friends to stay in a tourist town called Dullstroom which is renowned for trout fishing and hiking. I decided to cancel that holiday trip because of the potential of having the virus and spreading it to my JHB friends

The TV and Streaming Thread: Where is Ricky Gervais when you need him???

That looks very good, I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons so a fourth season confirmed is excellent news -
Oh, by using an example I see what you saying. That makes sense. If you dont mind me asking how do you know this because I want to mention this to people I know who have similar concerns to me but they are much more paranoid and anxious about it. Because I know these people will ask me " how do I know if I have never seen the curriculum and I dont live in the US ( these are US family friends and work acquaintances and this sometimes comes up as concerns they have ) Because I know about 1619 project and that is different to CRT that gets taught at universities as a type of legal course.
-
Yes I agree that Im surprised I cant find a proper example of CRT for schools because we know its a university course so surly it should be easy to find the school curriculum but I have searched for it and I cant definitively find it which makes me question its reality? And white genocide is definitely hyperbolic in the SA reality , Im not sure if you aware that this false narrative exists in SA and I can state with absolute certainty its not true But like all these topics it has some foundation It comes from a type of crime, referred to as " farm killings", we experience where whole families are murdered on farms and the murder of whole families is mostly white Afrikaners. But more black people are murdered in SA than white people but demographically black people make up 83% of our population so in any country with a high murder rate you would expect to see this But back to the farm killings, many white Afrikaner farmers live in fear of their families being killed which you can understand and some of these Afrikaners have suggested its genocide of white people and our government is behind it which is ridiculous. I have read the transcripts of the people caught who commit these heinous crimes and they mostly come across as suffering from something similar to PTSD and their reasons dont really make sense but they are almost all suffering from sort of cognitive disorder So these terrible killings are more acts of rage and it must be heavily condemned but our government is not behind it and black people are not involved in some grand scheme in SA to kill all white people. These farm killings also target maybe 9% of white people because that is the total number of white farmers compared to all white people who have other sources of income and live in cities like me And to be honest its frustrating to hear well meaning, and some racist and not well meaning, comments from people outside of SA asking me " what about the white genocide in your country" because the word genocide has a specific meaning and thats not what is going on in SA and it creates an unfair and inaccurate perception of SA. We have more than enough real problems and acts of crime without someone exaggerating this type of crime Okay I would like to believe that but why does the link say several times things like "28 (21 percent) are not included on the adopted list because they incorporate prohibited topics or unsolicited strategies, including CRT. So this is occurring not before it gets to books, its already in some textbooks. In other words it seems to be very specific around an actual topic that is in submitted textbooks according to the link? I know I am repeating what I said to Malc but it still suggests their must be something real to it, I am not sure if I am explaining it properly?
-
I find it hard to believe that CRT is some fantasy as Gromnir keeps on repeating because its not If you look the link you provided it clearly makes points like 28 (21 percent) are not included on the adopted list because they incorporate prohibited topics or unsolicited strategies, including CRT. And the point I keep making around this is surly we cant keep on assuming every example you hear about CRT being banned in every state is about something where their is no school curriculum? In other words you cant ban or prohibit something that doesnt exist in books or subjects? The only thing I find strange is why we cant find an example of CRT for the schools so we can review it ourselves

I am still truly stupefied by the Chinese response to the virus in Shanghai ...its so counter productive trying to control this variant like they going about it. Its almost impossible to achieve a " zero Covid " policy when people need to travel and work in your country One of my UK family members works for a US hedge fund that has a very lucrative Shanghai investment presence . I think he has lived their for about 15 years or so. We not close but we get updates sometimes and he was saying how much this lockdown is hurting all businesses in Shanghai. He never talks politics or ever criticizes the CCP because they are contractually bound not to do that because of the possible response from the CCP towards foreign companies which I understand But he did mention how frustrated Chinese and foreign business people are with these lockdowns

Again its ironic to see the Russians calling out the US for racism when they legalized bigotry like homophobia and racism is rife and ubiquitous in Russia. The main difference between current racism in Russia and Western countries is their are no BLM activist groups in Russia and the Russian state controlled media doesn't care

England deserves huge credit for its role and contribution towards Democracy and it absolutely should be recognized We have also discussed this in the past where I reject this notion that the English history and its success is just about things like slavery and Colonialism. I have raised concerns with statues in the UK being taken down that have nothing to do with BLM objectives So yes things like the Magna Carta is very important and also I am sure it was the UK who were the first who created property rights and also separated Church from state control ? I not suggesting the US is more important with its contribution to Democracy than the UK or Europe or other countries. I was just referring to the military contribution towards wars the US has made that would have changed Democracy as we know it now if the Nazis or Soviets had won
-
Oh Malc, dont you know by now their is method in my madness? The biased video Sarex posted attacks the US on several fundamental levels and paints the US as some sort of warmonger whose position in the world is an overall negative one Yet the irony is if it wasnt for the US and its military contribution in WW2 and the Cold War these wars and ideological conflicts would have been lost to countries that dont support or believe in Constitutional Democracies or believe in freedom of speech So the fact that you can say what you want about the US is due to the US and its positive historical contribution in the world

How many South American countries have you been to and have you ever been to Central America? I mentioned this before but these regions are often highlighted in US food shows like Bizarre Foods Delicious Destinations and they look exactly like places I would love to travel to These regions love their pork and thats my favorite meat. We have these Brazilian and Argentinian themed restaurants in SA and they offer a real festive dining experience https://www.rodiziogrill.co.za

I agree, the complete hypocritical response from the Russians whining about " their infrastructure being targeted " is just typical of the entire façade of Putins War and their endless gaslighting And the US and other countries are continuing to support Ukraine which is the perfect response to the meaningless threats from Russia
-
A legitimate withdrawal of the Russian army would be the best news I have heard all year For me I just want to see an end to Putins War and killing of Ukrainians and the damage done to Ukrainian infrastructure. I also want the Ukrainians to be able to go home as Im sure they do Putin can spin it anyway he wants because the Russian people have no choice but to accept it anyway

I know you have mentioned this before and I am envious of anyone being able to do that in country like the US, and neighboring countries, which is so huge and has so much to see and experience in the states. Have you mentioned this to Gail and if so what does she think? I also realize this is more a retirement objective and hopefully is a long way off ( and I dont mean it because of financial reasons because you have made very prudent investments, I mean it from the point of view that sometimes the lack of purpose in retirement can be a bad thing for some )

Thanks for responding but back to the most important question, what is your suggestion or solution to the global crisis around illegal immigration that countries like the US, EU and SA grapple with? Do you support refugee camps like in Africa and the ME or deporting people? I think much more international pressure and attention needs to put on the failed leadership where immigrants come from and less attention blaming the countries that are the refugee destination If you interested in this global problem I can share with you the SA reality and how this has divided and harmed our country and still does. I can share with you links and data and you can see what happens when a government fails to address illegal immigration. But its okay if you not that interested because I would like your feedback which means you would have go through each link and most people have other interests and want to spend time on other things but let me know? And then very few people take Hoonding seriously on these topics , he is race baiting and trolling like he always does. I respond to him because he makes me laugh. I know exactly what he meant. But just to respond to what he said, the words " blonde hair and blue " has been used to describe the Ukrainian refugees and this is a very different type of refugee than people arriving illegally on boats like the article mentions. The majority of refugees from Ukraine want to return to Ukraine when Putins War is over so its a different solution to other illegal immigrants But for me it doesnt matter what race you are when you want to immigrate, you must do it with papers and legally. So in closing, I want to have a broader discussion than just this article that is about solutions to address the global illegal immigration crisis and its not about left vs right ideology but the reality of finding solutions Similar to our CRT debate
