General tweaks and improvements
Luckmann replied to Bootsy81's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Oh god this. I can't think of a serious offender in this in PoE, but oh god this. I've played so many games where I end up just trudging through conversations and spamming a sequence of choices because it didn't autosave after the super-long dialogue sequence or clip or whatever. -
This. Pallegina is his waifu and therefore she gets her own unique armor and race. Well to be fair though, pretty much everyone has unique somethings. It even annoys me a bit that you can't re-enchant that armour of hers because it's not exactly stellar, and I'm a sucker for equipping my characters "appropriately", such as uniforms.

Does picked race matter?
Luckmann replied to Wbino's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not overly much, no. Overall, there seems to be very little reaction to race, class, order, deity, culture or background, sadly. I'm a deathlike Paladin, and I haven't even had any unique dialogue with her that I know of. I've noticed a single NPC react to my race once. In the first dialogue with Calisca, where you talk about your background, as an Aristocrat, all of the options felt out of place with me being a Deathlike (why no choice about simply not being able to continue the line, or being disinherited due to being a godlike?). When I started a new game as a Priestess of Eothas with a background of Clergyman (...no Clergywoman?), in the same conversation with Calisca, not only did she affirm that yeah, I'm of the clergy, but my god wasn't brought up, and Eothas is a pretty big deal in these parts, and when asked what I was doing here, there was no choice that fitted me, the closest I could get was settle down as a colonist, nothing about setting up a church or spreading the faith. There are some comments. With my Deathlike Aristocrat, I could object to possible rebellion against a certain nobleman, but I don't think it changed anything. So there can be effects, just don't expect anything major. And yeah, the mechanical effects of your choice is also pretty shallow, with no real penalties and pretty mellow bonuses. -
Hylea's Temple and Pallegina
Luckmann replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Even so, I agree that the priests (or whatev) should still react to her presence in some way. Godlikes do not illicit enough reactions throughout the game at all, I feel. :| -

You can say that again. Bisecting Super Mutants have never been so much fun. On the topic, I must say I also loved the kill animations of Dragon Age: Origins. It could be annoying at times, yes, and it sometimes interfered with combat, sure, but it had some really nice sequences. Or headshots with a high-caliber weapon in Jagged Alliance 2, melon explosion. I think that violence for the sake of violence and excessive blood is silly, and I think that the gibbing in the IE games and PoE is stupid (I turn it off), but visceral, brutal kill animations, as long as it doesn't happen all the freaking time, or if there's at least enough of them so you don't get instantly bored, can be real "Aww yiiiiiis" moments as well as "Oh god I think I just threw up a little in my mouth". I'm still waiting for a CRPG capable of giving me that proper "cut someone up along the abdomen and watch their entrails fall out as they try to collect them"-experience. I want to have the game capable of making me feel like a horrible human being and make me question what I just decided to do to these poor thieves that never really stood a chance, because I'm wearing plot armour and have quicksaves. I think I like death animations better when they convince me they are NOT scripted, even if we know they actually are. So the trick is, the destruction has to be not only compatible with the type and energy of the hit but also the direction - something not done right in a lot of games (or mods, like the skyrim gore mod, forgot the name, where people are not cut in the direction the blade was traveling). Considering what I saw so far, I think Witcher 3 will have some pretty neat death animations and physics. About DA:O, and talking ONLY about the kill animations (not the excessive amount of blood everywhere), I liked it too. But I'd really prefer to have quicker kills without the perceived loss of control over the characters - something that can be very annoying and frustrating. Agree completely. The specific animation from DA:O I have in my head is a quick thrust of the sword and then pushing the enemy off with the shield. It's quick, violent and realistic(-ish). The long-time obviously scripted motions get tiresome in the long run, but those small natural actions are great. -
Hard mode is too easy.

This matches up almost perfectly with my own suggestion: It would make Constitution worthwhile for tanks that want to soak damage, not just avoid it. Right now the only way to an effective tank is to stack Deflection to heaven and back, and as all tanks will almost invariably be from high-Endurance classes, and low-Endurance classes doesn't get nearly enough from Endurance to compensate anyway. And high-endurance classes that intend to tank really do not need the added Endurance anyway, and are far better off with Per/Res for the added defences.

This can't be done, currently, and it is indeed frustrating. It hasn't been an issue to me personally, but I can see how it would be very annoying to someone that bothers paying attention to resistances and using the best weapon. I've got exactly one sword-and-board fighter, and it's Edér, but I'm sure I would be incredibly annoyed if I was the tank myself, or if I dual-wielded much and wanted to switch weapons dynamically. Weapon Sets should just be links to items that you keep in your inventory, would solve a lot of issues.

This is the allegory that PoE is trying to convey. Feargus Urquhart tried to warn us. We wouldn't listen! Namutree, since forever now, whenever I scroll past your avatar real quick, at the corner of my eye, it looks like Momo from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I felt I should tell you. It was important to me.

Afaik, nope. She also has no special Talents from her Paladin Order, Frermàs mes Canc Suolias, and like all C/NPC Paladins, gets no modifiers to Faith & Conviction. She does, actually - Elusive Target gives her +10 Deflection against ranged attacks, +3 perception while at <50% Endurance, and some other thing I can't remember at <25% Endurance. o_O Yeah, it's almost like the kind of ability we were promised for Godlike! I take that and respec her to a tank-monk with Soul Mirror. What? Really? I sincerely apologize, I was trying to check for it when I got her but I must've missed it, or I've hit a bug. o_o Or maybe I was just too annoyed by the lack of Order Talents to notice. Wow, +10 Deflection against Ranged attacks is craze and huge bonuses to Perception while at low Health? Anyone else surprised that Pallegina has one of the hands-down best Godlike racials? The only one that could remotely compete with that would be Moonlikes, but even that is highly questionable. This is on the level of what all Godlikes should've had. Big whoop that it's Sawyer's snowflake that got this. I was already considering ditching her function as an off-tank in armour and just give her Vailian Clothes and go to town with an Estoc or similar, and with those bonuses, she shouldn't have any trouble at all. Edit: Oh god. "Muh balance!", screamed the Sawyer. "But exploits?", cried the Sawyer. "Mai sueflake.", grinned the Sawyer.

To be fair though, I'm starting to think that it would probably have been better to simply list all DR types individually and left it at that. It confuses a lot of people and the fact that the exceptions are based on percentage modifiers showed as flat values obfuscates the mechanics and makes it more obtuse than it needs to be. Just assigning flat DR/DT values on an armour-to-armour basis across all damage types would probably have been better.

It's not 4 types of DR, it's 4 DR; it's also got 6 Pierce and 6 Slash, though, ignoring the elemental DR differences, which is pretty good. But you're still increasing your Action Recovery by 20% for what amounts to 3-6 DR, on a character that shouldn't even be getting hit consistently. If you insist on wearing armour for some reason, there are worse options than Padded Armour, yes, but even then.. nah. Padded armor and robes are useable for particular enchants, but all things being equal, cloth (or the weirdly unique Berathian robes) is a better choice. Oh, look, it's my favourite pet-peeve popping it's head in! Hello, Non-Clothing Robes for Incomprehensible Arbitrary Reasons, still sh*t? That's great honey, alright, take care, good bye, don't call me, I'll call you.

The most frustrating part of Engagement to me is that it's impossible to slowly move backwards to pull the enemy (not turn around, run away, and get stabbed in the back) and impossible to reposition along the side of an opponent, to allow allies the space needed; you can't even move left or right. I have no love for the Engagement system as a whole, despite my first enthusiasm, I no longer think that it can be saved. But the fact that you can't even do the most basic, most reasonable of actions in combat is infuriating and frustrating.

Would the bigots be on their crusade if the limerick had been explicitly racist? Silly question, I know. Of course they would. Now, here's the rub. What is explicitly racist? Some lunatics argued that the original limerick was explicitly whateverphobic. Like FaustianEchoes wrote, just because you're butthurt, doesn't mean you're right. You being offended does not mean that others have to take you seriously. If it was actually explicitly racist, most would probably wonder how it got through the vetting process.
