But why ask for opinions then? It was pretty obvious that the 2 things fans will want is Planescape/Icewind Dale setting-wise and decade old mechanics. Aiming your 'kickstart' project at the die-hard fans will inevitably kill any larger appeal it might have had and I assume Obsidian is fine with that. That's the whole point of 'spiritual' successors. You can easily do a 'Bioshock' or simply use setting as it was without mentioning key names.

Is this a joke or are they hoping people forgot how atrocious that game was? /edit Seems they are serious. At this rate we will be seeing remakes of Back to Future very soon.
-
Was a terrible level. You really need something more than a 15 minute long section of scripted 'things go bang' events if you hope to scare people.
-
That's been bothering me as well. Wasn't it said somewhere that Obsidian burns through 1 million $ every month? Assuming you can get away with using fifth of the studio you still need around 2 million $ for a 10 months long project.

To be fair, mixing the survival horror and RPG genre in ways that work sounds almost unfeasible. It wouldn't be too hard to make a "survival" RPG that's focused around managing meager resources and just staying alive, I don't think; the early hours of Fallout 1 & 2 are already practically this. As for the horror, that's easy enough to add in; something that plays like low-level Fallout 1/2 could easily be given horror elements. Difficulty in managing limited resources is not synonymous with horror - otherwise Caesar 3 would frighten people to death. RPGs by definition operate around transparent rules and that's where fear of the unknown goes out the window. The best fright you can give a player is that of taking away his items or causing a permanent stat loss.

Seriously? Thanks to wonders of steam some of us have to download 20GB through 1Mb connection and somehow survive.

Thanks. It's amazing what difference even 5 degrees can make.

If Obsidian + Kickstarter = ?

Anything that's NOT a nostalgia train. Making a 'spiritual' successor to Planescape or Icewind Dale may seem to be the easiest way to go about it but please consider that over a decade has passed and things have changed. Having a largely adult audience (presumably) presents an unique opportunity for atypical story/game design and it would be a terrible shame to waste it by doing isometric/hand-drawn/d20 for the sake of nostalgia. -
Are there any FOV hacks for this game? It's been set so low I'm getting sick from playing.

Neverwinter Nights 2 first timer, anything I should know?

Powergame. Otherwise you may find final battles impossible. -
Ideas We think would be Hilarious

I think it's not that uncommon in jrpgs. IIRC protagonist of Chrono Trigger never said a single word. -
When was the data collected - before or after first month was done?

Air friction? As far as the gun goes - last I heard they were hoping for a fusion reactor to power it. With such energy needs I doubt it will ever become practical on naval vessels.

I'd say that for a single dev without any experience only rouge-like in elaborated middle-ware like flash is feasible.

Because they elect their political representatives to that institution?

Spent last few day trying to get Shogun 2 to run. Unfortunately CA broke the game with DLCs and it won't work anymore.

They've had multithreading since at least the Heir to the Throne beta patch phase. Too bad they forgot about it when they made Victoria 2. At least Paradox has an excuse as you shouldn't load frequently in their games. Creative Assembly however is on whole other level.
-
Definitely.. I wish they would make the ability to import save games between their games.. Imagine playing from 1066 to 1964.. Isn't there plenty of fan savegame converters that can do that? As for CK2 I'll wait to see if Paradox has finally learned to multi-thread their games.

Now that's quite presumptuous of you. Unless you have any idea which part of world I live in and what console piracy looks here I'd avoid any such statements. There are always consequences and they will reach end-user through the people doing the cracking. Having to deal with total online-bans, loss of warranty, console bricking, software updates and media changes simply dose not come free.
-
No it wasn't. The best that could be done until few months ago were illegal emulators written for Linux that ended with it's removal. Actually no it isn't. That may be the case now but not long ago it was possible to switch PS3 into factory/developer mode and run games from hard drive. That method required no changes to the console and IIRC enabled further development of custom firmware leading which enabled piracy until firmware patches.
-
Not really. Most do it publically, just to get money from people who want their console modified. Which are a lot in Europe. I meant those that develop tools and methods to hack the hardware.
-
Hackers made many grandiose claims over their PS3 "cracking". Reality is they enabled piracy for most of games out by then but soon got locked out with firmware revisions. It's not that good of a example as the need was simply not there due to 360 but the my point still stands - sufficiently advanced hardware can make cracking too hard or at least too annoying for a homebrew piracy.
-
It's absurd. Everything may be cracked. But that takes serious skills and commitment. Most crackers are in it for the glory and when faced with real challenge they go for easier targets. Just look as PS3 - it remains uncracked and piracy on it was impossible for years. And that's despite the fact that Sony was embarrassingly lax with their security.
-
Or it may turn out that next generation consoles won't be cracked. This generation console piracy wasn't treated very seriously by the designers but that may change.
-
The point isn't that there isn't console piracy but that it's not worth it for many people. There is also no guarantee that it will even be still possible next console generation.
