  1. You still do not understand - a lot of people on Codex who shocked you with "rude and bigoted Sexist comments and jokes about rape" ARE moderators. Who moderates the moderators? Me.
  2. PE Day 1 DLC: Bone Them All!! Followed by DLC Season Pass to gain romances with all future companions. Calling it now.
  3. Yea, color me surprised actually. I'd have thought the rapier (and what the heck is a smallsword then) weight to be more in line with a shortsword (even if there never was such a thing). But it's still the same thing really, long reach and real light compared to another sword with similar reach. The broadsword (or whatever the heck it was) in the video was 1/3 shorter and I doubt it'd give any less effective lunge damage. Yep, from my understanding it's that the weight distribution and the fact that most people try to hold them like fencing weapons that creates the illusion that weapons like broadswords were heavier. Even two handed swords and longswords did not weigh much more, and were incredibly fast if held right, it's just that the fighting style was completely different to fencing and often involve moves you would never do with a fencing weapon like holding the sword by the blade and using the guard to hook people. Fencing is more 'TV-friendly'.
  4. Yes, that tends to happen to people when I'm in one place too long, something you just have to accept when you're as awesome as I am. We're just fortunate we haven't got to the Brodance stage yet.
  5. The major concern I have with romance stems from the time I tried to visit the BSN. In my younger, stupider days I didn't realise just how horrible and nasty that place is, and signed up. While there, I not only discovered just how 'popular' romances were amongst certain demographics but also that the very idea that the NPC should have standards of any sort that narrowed the number of characters they would get with or result in the PC being turned down was anathema to them. I was told, quite firmly, by most there that they play games to escape and that they should be able to bone whoever they like regardless of orientation or preferences of the NPC. They did NOT want anything deeper, they wanted to be able to get with whoever they wanted 'regardless of how they played'. Now, I know that many of the promancers here claimed they wanted meaningful romances and suchlike, but if Obsidian had put in romances then these people who 'just want to escape and not deal with real life rejection' will complain if they can't bone all the romance options because they are playing a Orlan or Amaua or a carrot, and will push to have them 'open up' to everyone, eventually turning the romances into the bland BSN ones we all know. These people have TOLD me that's what they want from the RPG romances they play. As for what the Obsidian forums are like, let me put it this way: I will not go near the BSN ever again, not because of 'weirdoes' (we all are really) but because it's actually a nasty place really, while I won't go near the RPGCodex because it's 'Not for me'. These forums? Well, I'm gracing you all with my amazing presence aren't I? :D
  6. I've heard of it, they use actual weaponry to fight don't they? They sound like a mix between larping and reenactment from what I have heard. It's hearing conflicting things like that which makes it confusing to work out just what the larp scene is like in the US.
  7. The sizeable romance budget they started with went straight into hookers and blow. Sorry, guys! Research is an important first step. We'd better donate some more so that they can do some more research then!
  8. Honestly, I am surprised that there isn't more of a backlash, I expected there to be more rage from either side once they announced whether there was going to be romances or not. I'm actually quite impressed with the community's response overall so far.
  9. I'll come Larp with you but only if you wear your Viconia outfit....... The Viconia outfit is only for very special occasions, you'll have to make do with my Dorothy outfit.
  10. I'm guessing Godlikes can breed with anyone of their parent's race, so an Orlan Godlike can breed with Orlans etc. What the child is I have no clue, depends on whether you can get lineages of Godlikes or not I guess.
  11. In regards to how many Europeans are here: I suspect the largest contributors are from Germany and certain other countries for Europe. Germany is quite renowned for their support for roleplaying games in general, PC games, and point and click games as well. Their larping is also considered among the best in Europe too, with their fests renowned for being quite hardcore in the larping community. This probably at least makes up for the unfortunately 'lacking' of certain other countries such as my own, Britain, which probably has a weaker support of such areas than even the US, being more traditionally console-focused instead and a lot less support of roleplaying in general, though surprisingly we do have a somewhat decent larping scene (seriously, the US is the birthplace of D&D, it does have a strong tabletop tradition or so I am led to believe, and yet it's larping seems so incredibly undeveloped I actually thought depictions of it were taking the piss and was shocked to discover they were not, so not sure what the hell is going on there).
  12. Pillars of Eternity: Bitch had it coming Pillars of Eternity: As you wish Pillars of Eternity: The pillars pillage Pillars of Eternity: Learn to read Pillars of Eternity: Subtitled
  13. Regarding the Bioware hate bit: while I have said many bad things about DA: O (because there are many bad things), I did still enjoy it overall enough to play it through twice. To think they have learnt and improved from DA2 though is incorrect I believe: they knew when they released it that it had been rushed, they are a big company with their own resources there was no need to rush it and yet they did so, and they used day 1 dlc to make people preorder it before they could see the actual game in order to get your money before you realised the actual state of the game. The even promised people that the console version would have auto-attack in it and then, the night before release, went "Oh sorry turns out we forgot to put it in, and we ain't gonna bother patching it in either, tough ****." I wouldn't trust someone who did something like that. Now they are saying that they have 'learnt from their mistakes' with DA2, but until the next game comes out we won't know that they have will we? People, including me, remember the old days and people still hope they might be good again, despite being burnt by them repeatedly. Bioware, under EA, has a huge PR machine and marketing, and they will use that to keep people thinking that maybe this time it will be different. It's like an abusive spouse, Bioware tells you that this time it will be different, this time it will be like the good old days, they've changed, and then they punch you in the mouth. Bioware is not going to change until they get punched where it really hurts, in the pocket. But they won't, because people can't let go of the false hope that 'this time it will be different'. I'm glad I got out of dealing with Bioware games when I did. Bioware as we knew them is dead, I like to remember them as they were in the good times, not as the undead abomination that now masquerades as them.
  14. That's what I hope too, that they went with what they felt fit the characters.
  15. Impish British Larper and proud of it. Of the larping that is, damn proud. Nationality, I've outgrown it.
  16. Mature writing in the context of the IE games was touted, and it being Obsidian I would've been astonished if it was anything less. Unfortunately (for me), I'm getting the distinct impression that PoE's "maturity" is going to come in the form of another hopelessly bleak setting a la New Vegas, Game of Thrones and what seems like two thirds of fantasy of any form since 2010. And while I enjoyed New Vegas and, up to a point, Game of Thrones, the reality is that grittiness gets very draining. While I sincerely hope that Obsidian and others benefiting from kickstarter can break free of the creative shackles of the big publishers and create games as an art form, it's not unreasonable for me to also expect to be entertained. Being hammered into depression against the anvil of dystopia is not what I had in mind. I get what you are saying. I did pick up however that they said that the racism wasn't going to be the blatant in your face kind, which actually gives me hope. The problem with the grimdark stuff for me normally is that the writers of the bad stuff tend to think having everyone be evil and nasty and depressive and moody and have no fun whatsoever, not realising that 'good' mature fantasy still has good people and jokes and light hearted humour as well. Basically, the problem as I see it is that people confuse mature and dealing with adult themes with teen wangst grimdark, and most developers these days seem to make that mistake too, but hopefully Obs won't and we'll get a mature and fun game.
  17. That can actually work. Not necessarily with the armpits bit, but kinda like Gandalf's "Do not mistake me for a conjurer of cheap tricks!" bit.
  18. That would be the only way I can see of getting anything near a real idea of what is the real split of pro and anti romancers. As controversal as it seemed to be, the inXile poll did seem to work, they got a huge number of feedback anyway at least compared to the usual polls.
  19. In regards to mentions of polls showing favour one way or the other, I don't remember any of the polls proving anything in regards to this issue. I do remember that polls were set up in various leading ways to try to skew them in favour of whichever side the poster who made them was on, and that it was never really clear. Honestly, I think it's too late in development to change it now, and Obsidian never said that they were going to include romances in their KS bid (they said they were making a spiritual successor to the IE games, which includes the Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate 1 which did not have romanceable companions and they never made any post during the KS that they would have romances), so they have no obligation to do so. This is the danger of KS, we are not businessmen and do not understand the importance of small print. :D
  20. That's cool with me as it still means I could make a high damage dealing mage type without making them musclebound, but I do hope they still define your character in some way especially in dialog.
  21. I'm amazed at how quiet this topic (romance in general, not this particular thread) has been considering how bad it got at one point. The romance 'issue' seems to have been pretty much dead for so long which at one point seemed impossible!
  22. I'm glad to hear that the NPCs are not only going to have detailed backstories and personal goals but may also interact/interfere with the main storyline, or at least that's how I read it. The lack of romance just means that I don't have to decide to bone someone in order to get any interaction out of them, and opens up the possibilities for other more varied relationships.
  23. No sorry it has to be Bruce Campbell! Especially since PE does have boomsticks after all!
