  1. So you're saying that all is good, 'cause Vailians are from equator and migrated south, and Aedyrans are from other regions and migrated to equator. Even if that is the case, there is no logic behind that: Why would Vailians change their comfy equator zone for a colder one? Why would Aedyrans change their comfy temperate zone for a tropical one? Convenient switch is convenient I agree it seems... odd. My issue with it is that it seems to assume the ones migrating didn't just get assimilated by the original inhabitants instead and that the majority didn't just stay in their original homeland like usual. Humans tend to want to expand their influence, they are happy to gain control over a new area but they don't like to give up on their old areas while doing so, they want both. I tend to assume that Aedyr continent is large enough that it reaches in the temperate zones which is where the empire actually started and it expanded southwards (or northwards depending on hemisphere) to the equator which was uninhabited at the time. Old Vailia still exists and expanded with the Vailian Republics as does any empire (Europeans settled the Caribbean and Americas despite the hotter temperatures after all, Humans will go anywhere in order to expand). I am assuming Old Vailia is in a more tropical environment though, I could be wrong.
  2. You know what the forum needs? Separate +Rep and Agree buttons. Because sometimes I disagree with someone but still approve of their post, but if I Like it then people often assume I am agreeing with them.
  3. As someone who is thinking of adding Ranger to his Cipher when he plays Deadfire, I would like to approve of this. EDIT: But I do not approve of being typecast as a bowman! Clearly my Cipher should called swordbrainer instead!
  4. I kinda start regretting that I encouraged Aloth to suppress Iselmyr. I'm sure there's no way repressing a deranged part of your psyche would ever lead to comical outbursts of hilarity and horror, nosirree!
  5. Okay it sounds to me that Iselmyr will just flirt with anyone. I've seen people, particularly women with other women, flirt with each other without it meaning anything, complimenting each other about their features and what not. There's also the case that Iselmyr clearly likes innuendo, and likes to wind people up, a common practice here. Hell, half of what she says if taken as flirting and not jokes would make most of the UK gay in my experience. Hmm, maybe onto something... In Iselmyr's case it sounds like she's just willing to voice desires like riding stelgaers into battle or pointing out that something makes someone look good, as a counterpoint to Aloth's prudence. In fact, thinking about it, maybe Aloth is particularly embarassed by Iselmyr because she is trying to fit him up with people? Iselmyr: "Oh, she looks your type Aloth, go speak with her! Tell her she's got big **** everyone likes to know they got big ****." Aloth: "Iselmyr, no! Pallegina does not want people telling her she has big... assets." Iselmyr: "Sure they do! If you don't tell her I will..." Aloth: *sobs*
  6. I thought Iselmyr was interested in women though? Aloth would have to be gay for that to happen Where is it stated that Iselmyr is gay? Don't recall her gender preference ever coming up.
  7. You know I hope they don't make Aloth gay. Not because I have a problem with it, but because it always seems to be the effeminate well-spoken character that is gay in media and for once I'd like to see it be the big, manly, macho guy instead. Plus the hilarity of Iselmyr trying to bed people Aloth doesn't has to be done.
  8. I recall it being said the Aedyrans started off in more temperate regions and moved to the equator. There seems to be quite a lot of migrations in Eora, many ethnic groups seem to have moved to and settled in regions not stereotypically expected of them. I did wonder about the whole deer thing and them being on the equator myself tbh though, especially when I read the Aloth short story and it refers to the jungles around Aedyr.
  9. God of Rebirth? Oh god I just had a horrific image enter my head: the party facing off against the statue, except that its lying on its back, its legs spread apart as it has a giant Eothas-baby sticking half out of its vag that is fighting the party.
  10. I've done it before and I'll do it again (because I love doing it):
  11. I do like the idea of the website being used more to show tweets and blogs and the like. Also an access point for all their youporntube videos would be good. I also dislike the idea of a uplay or battlenet app client that you have to start before starting the game. But a link on the website to and showing a discord channel would be good too as I do like discord. Not being forced to post on reddit or youtube comments is also ideal, I don't even have a reddit account and whenever I wind up there the place gives me a headache (plus it is blocked by my work proxy, which means I can't access it during work hours). Oo! Oo! Let me get set up first! Ready!
  12. You will get the entire stronghold finished way way before the end of the game, and the random events will occur or not occur with no way to game it so don't even bother.
  13. The person responsible for this question forgot that MOON GODLIKES are linked to ONDRA Yes, that's what I was waiting for! I use a custom portait, but I am no artist. Someone fancy helping out? I didn't see that they had answered the watercolour question. Hmm, I suck at artistry too and I'd feel rude going around asking people to knock out watercolour portraits especially since the original portraits I am using are ones I have yoinked off the internet anyway...
  14. They answered two of my questions, I feel speshul! I like the explanation for why they let players kill important NPCs even at the cost of story, which is that they realise they are working in an interactive medium, not trying to make a film or book where they cram their story or message down your throat like certain other devs do. They are approaching the game like GMs to a tabletop RPG game, not like directors to a hollywood film. +Jazz Approves.
  15. Thanks from me too and thanks to Fereed. And omigod they answered my question on backgrounds! And about the stances! *swoons* I really liked the answer about the stances, pretty much what I was hoping for. The Backgrounds I am interested to see where they go with them, those little details of character generation always interest me and with the increased skills the backgrounds should vary a lot more. I also really liked his answer to NPCs all being killable. There are many developers I find that seem to take the stance that they are "telling a story" and use Hollywood ideas and film writing techniques rather than develop for the medium of games, and then wonder why their players seem to resent them for it. When I GM for my tabletop RPG groups I feel that the goal should be to enable the players to tell their own stories than force them to play out my own, and I like seeing developers appear to take the same approach too. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, I like to jibber jabber.
  16. The Expanse as an RPG made by Obsidian would make me happy in inappropriate places.
  17. Soulstreams cant melt Adra pillars. How do you feel, Watcher? The body may heal, but the soul is not always so resilient. (Especially when Durance is around).
  18. Lore's being broken down into more specialized fields, providing options based on education in more focused areas such as religion and metaphysics, Intellect is still going to be a stat that will presumably feature in dialogue options, and Streetwise has already been listed among the examples of passive skills being planned for inclusion (http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Pillars_of_Eternity_II:_Deadfire#Features). There's no indication that Diplomacy will function to the exclusion of these options at this point. Yep that is why I used Streetwise as an example, as I knew it was already there, I was using it to point out that lots of things can and should provide more options in dialogue in response to rjshae's statement that 'polishing' social skills should be expected to add options. I do not think that Diplomacy will function to the exclusion to others, I was just expressing a concern with the skill being there and previous statements by Obsidian regarding social skills when developing PoE 1. Their statements I agreed with and hope it does not show 180 degree change in their approach, as social skills often end up being a "I win" button for social encounters, while forcing players into a particular style of character if they want to do well at social stuff. I liked how in PoE 1 you could create your character how you want, and the dialogue options flowed from there. You weren't pushed into being a charismatic character type, instead you could play an intelligent character and got options for that, or a strong guy and get Might options etc. Sure, some had more options than others, but that was a minor problem at most. Diplomacy has always been too wide a skill for me, along with Intimidation (that has so many different forms of intimidation used by completely different character types, like the physical towering over intimidation of tall strong characters to the subtle implied intimidation delivered with a smile) and others. Think I've said my piece on the matter now, as I've said its just a concern of mine that I wanted to voice.
  19. Will there be a Chanter sub-class that is less a performer like the troubadour and more a historian/scholar or writer type? EDIT: Oh, and having watched the video for update 37 and noticing that each of the companions seem to get their own stances, will we be able to choose a stance for our character like a heroic stance or a pipesmoker stance?
  20. If you had polished your social skills, wouldn't you expect to have additional discussion options not available to a clueless lout? No, because 'polishing' social skills only applies to those who are following the same etiquette you are developing. I can see skills like High Class Etiquette, which would help in specific social situations, but which would also be a hindrance if used in the wrong situation such as when talking to street thugs who think you're being snobby to them as a result of it. In that case, street etiquette or streetwise as it is more commonly known would be more applicable but using that on a noble would make you look like a lout. Nope. All you're talking about there is applying specific situational modifiers. You still should expect to have more options overall when you've enhanced your social skills. You should have more options from having grown up on the streets. You should have more options from having an high level education. You should have more options for being really smart. Having a specific 'social' skill just creates a obligatory skill your main character is often required to take to get the best options from dialogue. Whereas having skill in Streetwise not only lets you have options in street situations but also lets your character know other things like dangerous areas, which gang controls which areas etc while High Society lets you know how to fit in as a nobleman, identify the power players in a situation etc. Things a character would need to know anyway to fit in with the group he is trying to socialise with. A Face character could then even have more nuance than "the guy with the speech skill" as you develop the areas they are good in, or split them off to characters that actually suit them better, like the aforementioned streetwise skill could go instead to the street tough party member who know how to get around the mean streets instead of the poncey bard-type who wouldn't have a clue how to live on the streets.

  22. Hmm so there's social skills like Diplomacy now? Not sure I like that, I quite liked not having social skills for the reason they gave for Pillars 1: they end up being 'auto-win' buttons that players expect to work because they have invested the points in it. Kinda liked having a range of skills and attributes provide different options that may or may not help depending on the situation.
  23. The thing I find interesting there is that it specifically states Housed souls which fits with the intended distinguishing difference between Ciphers and Watchers, but a literal reading of that implies they shouldn't be able to affect spirits like Phantoms, Shadows, Spectres, Banshees, etc since they are not 'housed'.
  24. I see what you did there. I would have to be Mostly Dead to have missed that.
