I don't think it's a good idea in itself...and actually would prefer if Obsidian wouldn't waste any resources to implement that and istead focus everything on making the recruitable NPCs better and more unique. ...but than again I suppose such a feature probably would not need too much resources...so...ehh, whatever.

So as reward for taking the more difficult way you want it to be...easier ?

$2.0M: so very close!
BSoda replied to Macbeth's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Big market for cRPGs -tiny market for potential backers. That really doesn't add up. It is the case, however. Kickstarter simply isn't popular in Germany (yet ?). One point against it, for Germans, certainly is the need for a credit card which is just not that common in Germany...but even with paypal as option the additional pledge potential seems to be tiny. W2 had a paypal pledge option rather early on and at the end only something like 3% of the total pledges were done through paypal. -

You will get some more backers, but I do get your point. So what would be a good stretch? 2.4m and they’ll add dragons? Something many potential backers would be interested in, of course. Perhaps that mega-dungeon many here in the forum are longing for, an additional town with quests and NPC or even romances (though that probably would piss off a lot of forum goers as well). Something...interesting that's not additional languages or similar stuff. -

What I'm saying is that, right now, Obisidian needs to maximize the pledges for their kickstarter. You do that best by announcing interesting stretch goals to potential backers...so basically anything that extends the game many are already interested in. Linux/ Mac / additional language support isn't something you catch new pledges with. That stuff is only later interesting for potential buyers. -

...uhh...of course it's selfish. After all Obsidian won't pay me out a share of the profit from the finished product, so why should I care for any stretch goal that solely is good for maximizing their bottom line ? I want Obsidian to make a (hefty) profit, of course -but that doesn't translate to the kickstarter -like at all. -
Ironically, you've answered your own question. This is the biggest objection with such a small budget. I think that we are asking for coop if Obsidian gets the resources for it. I mean, adding coop as a "stretch goal". 2.4 million, 3 million, I don't know. Obisidian can't raise enough funds to realistically reach a point where coop wouldn't take away resources from the sp campaign in some form. So a very big no to mp/coop from my side.

You have to remember that 2.2 million allows a whole new area to explore and additional factions, these contributes a lot to the game. The language translation is just a small part to fill in a void left by Linux porting, which again is something that not everyone could benefit from. So basically nothing has change. 2.2 million is about new area and new faction. Its not about language, its about extra content for the game. Why can't people see this. Stop saying 2.2 million is for language support, its not. Put that aside for goodness' sake. Sure, but additional languages were the last "new thing" announced as stretch goal. The new area/faction part already contributed to the total pledge amount beforehand...and as it so happens additional languages did pretty much nada for the pledges. It's just not a very exciting thing to announce. The linux stretch goal had the same problem. -

The day after the announcement of the "additional languages" stretch goal has been the slowest pledge day since the start of the PE kickstarter. Additional language support is important for the success of the finished product, but it does diddely squat for the funding part of the project. To potential backers who only back the game and won't participate in the actually earnings of the finished product, additional languages are pretty much wasted resources. -

Anything, really. As it stands, additional languages are pretty much a non-rewarding stretch goal. -

I'm guessing in the next 12 hours. The only thing *very* apparent, though, is the fact the additional language support obviously was a pretty uninteresting stretch goal for backers. Not that surprisingly, imo. -

Romances, yay or nay?

As long as their are not "BW style". Yay, of course.- 231 replies

Even as a non-native English speaker I'm a bit disappointed by the new, changed stretch goal. I was really hoping for new content. As it stands the new 110$ digital tier (early beta access) is the "biggest bang" with this new update.

I disagree. I want the sp campaign to be as "overfunded" as possible...even if in the end this means a possible mp/coop mode got shafted solely for the inclusion of top hats.

You know if you ask a "yes or no" question you really should supply a way to answer "no". Not 4 different options, 3 being "yes please" and 1 "I don't care but yes go ahead". I hate mega dungeons with a passion and would have voted "no" if I could. Long, extended loot runs with tons of filler combat without much diaolgue/choices/story in between is simply not my idea of fun in RPGs.
