I watched GameReactor's review on Youtube and the guy seemed to like it. I think it's the Swedish version, which gave it a 7/10.

I disagree. I certainly don't remember people's faces taking 30+ seconds for their textures to pop in playing Mass Effect 1. This happened multiple times during cutscenes. It was really odd at times with certain peoples faces loading and looking great and one or two faces looking like someone had thrown water at a painting. Even if my memory is faulty and ME1 did have worse pop-in, its still disapointing to see a new U3 Engine game with this problem when most of the newer ones have fixed the problem almost completely. Its not a game killer but its really distracting. Environment textures and armor textures took longer to load in Mass Effect 1. It's apparent in the very first level, too, so you don't even have to play far to see just how bad it is. Also, during dialogue scenes in Mass Effect 1, the facial and armor textures load in very slowly. In Alpha Protocol, it's about 3 seconds to load in textures, but it's between 6-15 seconds (depending on the scene and such) in Mass Effect 1 on Xbox 360. Also, most newer games haven't fixed this. It's just an issue with the UE3. Mass Effect 2 and Gears of War 2 still had texture pop-in. Granted, it was reduced to 2 seconds max when loading textures in, it was still there to some extent. And these are AAA releases.

How has this game done financially?
Libertarian replied to Busomjack's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Yeah, cause comparing a very highly rated Rockstar release to a very poorly rated Obsidian release is totally fair. Of course a Rockstar game will sell gangbusters. That's only common sense. Now let's compare Bungie to Irrational when it comes to sales. -

Capcom is known for setting their goals way too high. They did the same thing with Dark Void, then they lowered that # and were still far too high. In the end, though, Dark Void was an utter failure and Capcom just forgot it ever existed. -
The first complaint is actually an issue with your analog stick slightly sticking. It doesn't do this in all games, only those with very sensitive movement recognition. The recently released Deadly Premonition also would cause this due to the left analog stick slightly stick in a certain position at times (up and a little to the left being the most common). On your second complaint, Mass Effect actually has worse texture pop-in. I recently played it through again and the pop-in is probably the worst of any game using the Unreal Engine 3. While they do pop after loading menus in Alpha Protocol, the textures take much less time to actually load in than in Mass Effect. Btw, I'm talking about the original, not Mass Effect 2, which drastically improved engine performance, but still had slight texture pop-in.

Well, the NPDs that'll release next week will be for the month of May, so we'll get Red Dead and Alan Wake numbers. We'll have to wait until July for the June NPDs. -

It isn't great, but considering the bashing by both the reviewers of the world, and also your type -- it's not bad, either. -

Interesting thing is that it's showing up on IGN's "most viewed" games - all others are major unreleased titles, RDR or in the 9s. Interest seems to exceed the lacklustre US mainstream gaming media reviews. We'll see. It could very well be a nice little surprise in terms of sales. For a game getting bashed so much, I'm shocked it's already reached 30k. While that's hardly anything when we're talking about this generation, it sure is a lot when you weigh in the negative perception out there about this game. I hope more people give it a chance. I think fans of WRPGs could get a lot of enjoyment out of Alpha Protocol. I know I am. -
Yup, I hate miliatary shooters like CoD, so high scores do nothing for me when it comes to those. I always judge by my interest in a game and not scores.

THE HACKING IS OK DAMN IT.
Libertarian replied to Reg1.1's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I love all the hacking with the 360 controller. I find it fun. Then again, I leveled up those skills early on so that it wasn't too difficult. -
Finished this one with no bugs.

Despite being an awesome game, the game flopped in most reviews, so expect the majority to be sheep, which isn't unusual. We're being delusional if we expect this to do very well. For a game getting bashed like this, 30k is a fairly solid # so far on consoles. -
Yup, agree with that. 9.0 would be my personal opinion.

I don't know, but he's one of my favorite characters ever. I love his emails. He's a crazy conspiracy loon like me!

I still don't understand all the people ******** and moaning about this game. It seriously isn't bad or poor at all. It's actually damn good. I will never listen to a review ever again after this one. Alpha Protocol is one of my favorites in a while. Both Obsidian and Sega got screwed. Truly a raw deal. PS: Xbox 360 version.

PSU's Alpha Protocol Review
Libertarian replied to JamieSI's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
PSU, lulz. I get their email newsletter. They're a bunch of PS fanboys. -
I found the game to be rather long, but I took my sweet ol' time.

Fantastic game. A great story and fantastic set of characters. The graphics aren't cutting edge, but I find a lot of the textures to be solid and the lighting is very nice. I also think a lot of the character models are well done. There are little stutters here and there, but this game performs much better than the original Mass Effect. I also dug the combat. It's a bit wonky, but I actually dig the dice roll RPG gameplay. I like how the reticle works. It's pretty much the same as the original Mass Effect. Loved the safe houses and how you were given a choice to which locations to go to. And speaking of choice, no game does it as well as Alpha Protocol. What an achievement! Screw the reviews, this one is a gem and a half.

Gamespot have no idea how to Review a game
Libertarian replied to xebian's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Yes, this is the same website that gave Two Worlds on PC and 360 a higher score than this game. Avoid! -
so how long till it gets good?
Libertarian replied to poolofpoo's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I don't find the hacking too bad overall. I maxed out those skills ASAP, though. -

Meh, his words are worthless to me.

Agree 100% That was my biggest disappointment. Mass Effect 2 was polished and great. I loved assembling my team and doing their loyalty missions. Little did I know, though, that the loyalty missions were like 85% of the main story stuff. The first Mass Effect told a much better overarching story of the threat at hand. This one seemed less about that and more about your team that you assemble. When I finally took on the mission with my team I had assembled, I was shocked to find out that I had reached the ending of the game already. And that final boss wasn't so great. Overall, even with its lack of overall polish, I enjoyed Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol more than Mass Effect 2, but I still liked Mass Effect 2 a lot despite the disappointments.

Alpha Protocol may lack the polish of Mass Effect 2, but it is a better game. The story was so disappointing in #2. The character loyalty missions were great, but there weren't many missions dealing with the overal threat. It just kinda ended abruptly.
