Alpha Protocol is not an ugly game!
Libertarian replied to Libertarian's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
the game isn't perfect but the reviewers exaggerated with the "flaws" and the worse is that played the game the wrong game to later criticize the gameplay/gunplay etc. Indeed. Anyone been playing Red Dead Redemption? That game has the most bugs I've ever encountered in a game. You can even look them up on Youtube and come up with 3k+ results. Most UE3 games have texture pop-in. AP takes 3-4 seconds to load textures for me. Other than the sneaking animations and some walking animations, I found the majority of facial animation stuff to be quite decent, actually. I much prefer the way this looks over the dark and shiny look of a Gears of War, for example. -

Please note that the following images are not mine, but they do show off how pretty Alpha Protocol can be. But most importantly, they show off that Alpha Protocol is not the abysmal looking game many would have you believe. -
Oh **** no! That was such a horribly designed battle. Had the shooting mechanics been better and the hit detection been improved, hitting that idiot through the windshield may not have been so annoying in the narrow time that they gave you. However, it was horribly frustrating. And why the hell did IO decide to turn the game into a horribly controlling GRAW clone halfway through. What a tedious crap fest, to say the least. The bank stuff, the club stuff, etc. I could deal with the awful mechanics and issues with the design since the scenarios were cool. But then they ditch what made K&L interesting and turned it into the biggest pile of crapola ever.

More like Alpha ProtoWIN. Kane & Lynch sucked. Horrible sticky cover system with no button press, even worse shooting mechanics, worse hit detection, etc.

More Reviews, What to expect
Libertarian replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Once again, where are all the bugs these people are complaining about? I'm not seeing them. Other than some clipping, odd A.I. behavior, etc, I've had really no bugs. Nothing that hurts the game, imo. -
I had been hyped for it since the Game Informer cover story in 2008. Despite the initial harsh reviews, I couldn't let that get in the way of my years of hype. And thank god, I made the right decision. Alpha Protocol is quite the gem.

The Conspiracy Against Alpha Protocol
Libertarian replied to Deus Ex Machina's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Excuse me, mister, I love the 'G' part of Alpha Protocol. I much prefer a dice roll component to the gun combat than just a run and gun. As an RPG, it should have the 'RP' part mixed with the 'G' part, which Alpha Protocol does. Look at Mass Effect 2. It has the 'G' part, but it doesn't have the 'RP' part in terms of menus, features and gameplay. Alpha Protocol has it in all 3 departments. And on the subject of Mass Effect 1, the combat was far worse than Alpha Protocol. It had the dice roll component, but it even felt less visceral than Alpha Protocol when you hit your enemy. The combat was far too wonky in Mass Effect 1, even though I still prefer it to the more run and gun nature of its sequel. I never actually felt like I was hitting my enemies in Mass Effect 1, though. And the cover system in Mass Effect 1 was truly balls. I can't stand janky cover systems that just use sticky cover and not an actual button press. Mass Effect 1 and Kane & Lynch had these cover systems. With all that said, I adore Mass Effect 1. -

Hey, if you don't mind, I'm off to listen to Lady Gaga! -
Red Dead Redemption is an awesome game, but wonky controls, meh cover mechanics, mediocre AI and a ton of glitches, should be taken into account when reviewing it. I found that too many reviewers overlooked all the flaws since it's an open world game, and reviewers seem to think they should be reviewed on a different scale, thus the "jank" is never accounted for. The way I see it is that Rockstar is no rookie at this genre. Rockstar built its career on open world games, and the fact that they have yet to perfect the formula, truly leaves me baffled. And their missions still aren't varied enough. It felt like playing GTA in the wild west. Great characters, overall graphics, and some solid gameplay (but also wonky). I love the game, but it's not the near perfect product some reviewers would have you believe.

I'm a huge Rockstar fan, but RDR being "the greatest game of all time"? Lol, not a chance in hell. Anyways, I've yet to finish RDR, but that's more because it's not that amazing. It is a great game, though. However, it's just GTA IV with a new coat of paint, no doubt. Feels identical.

Yeah, I just saw it tonight for the first time and the marketing got it right with a good and catchy song! What do you guys think about the ad? PS: I'm not sure if it's the same for every country, but I'm in the US.
-
Agreed. I'd love a New Game + option. PS: Aren't you from the Darkest of Days forum?

How has this game done financially?

I find people to be generally stupid in every country. That includes my own. I don't single out any person, race or country here. I'm an equal opportunity hater. -
Playing on an XBox....
Libertarian replied to macrocarl's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Amen. Also playing on the 360 and it's one of my favorite RPGs ever. Mass Effect had worse technical issues overall and it didn't get the crap this is getting. Of course, though, that was well over 2 years ago. But still, Alpha Protocol & Mass Effect 1 > Mass Effect 2. This game is nowhere near what the reviews make it out to be. -
I agree. Bioware listened to all the complaints and stripped out all the RPG elements in Mass Effect 2. Then it turned into a standard third-person shooter.

FFXIII was GD awful. Burn it with fire! -
I missed the ending of the credits. What was the song at the end before the credits (boat scene)?

The Conduit averaged a 69% on Metacritic and flopped horribly in sales, yet Sega is doing a sequel to that with High Voltage. I remember reading a bit back before AP dropped that Sega was already looking at the thought of AP2. I wonder if Sega is thinking the same thing now, given the reviews. I wonder how well the game sold across retail for all platforms and for digital distribution PC channels... I'm so hoping Sega doesn't abandon their plans for a sequel. Polish up some of the complaints people have and my god, AP2 would be so damn good. I already love AP1. I could only imagine a sequel. Get 'er done, Sega! Obsidian said they already sent them concepts and such for AP2 in a past Game Informer.

I was afraid I wouldn't get any chicks in the sack, then I got all 3 during the final mission. Damn, Thorton doesn't do anything in moderation.

Indeed. I'm an American, but I love RPGs like Alpha Protocol, Divinity II: Ego Draconis, Risen, etc. If I had listened to many American gaming outlets, I'd think they were absolute shovelware. It's truly a shame, but the straight up bromance shooters are more appreciated over here. -

Yes, I agree. We need a sequel. Sega better make it happen...

so how is this game on pc
Libertarian replied to CrunkJuice's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
The PS3 version is easily the worst of the 3 versions (although it's not bad).
