  1. Well, anyway, can't say I blame you, since that's honestly the vibe I'm getting from Obsidian too. I'll give them the benefit of doubt for New Vegas, since I'm a hopeless Fallout fanboy, but then they'll have to earn my interest in their new projects.
  2. Ouch, there's no need to be that defensive, I was just honestly asking since you were less than clear.
  3. I thought you'll buy it. I did buy it, it's just that the mail is painfully slow.
  4. I don't want to derail this topic too much but my opinion is that Deus Ex has a really carefully constructed setting, but the story itself is badly structured, generally badly explained and felt generally unsatisfying. There were a couple of great moments, the one that immediately comes to mind is the ending, but it certainly doesn't hold a candle to games with truly good storytelling. Mind you, it's still a game with an above average story, but if I have to be totally honest, the average when it comes to storytelling is remarkably low in the gaming industry.
  5. I haven't played Alpha Protocol, but I can comment on this : Deus Ex didn't only have a pretty bad story, but also pretty bad dialogues, and the hilarious delivery was only part of it. When it comes down to it Deus Ex is basically your usually 'there's always been a conspiracy behind the scene', 'man-made virus' and all that kind of things. The way they created the world was actually quite compelling but the story itself was pretty weak.
  6. Ouch, that's harsh. Ok, it's probably harsh, because I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that Obsidian has lots its credibility as a developer because of AP, or that AP isn't worthy of an AAA dev? Also, you say that you do the same with any game... does it mean you basically tell anyone to avoid every game?
  7. Eh, the problem is, how would you design such a system? It's not as easy as it sounds, and I think Obsidian ultimately went for the action-rpg route because they thought it complemented the genre in a way that a turn-based/isometric RPG can't.
  8. Not to mention that, even if true, it's pretty possible that from Parker's point of view it was the anon dev being unreasonable.
  9. I don't understand why providing what is essentially a 'New game+ light' mode is a douchebag move.
  10. I'm not sure what the paycheck and motivation for working in the industry is, but I have to say, I agree with the 'I buy the game only if I like it'. Because the point is : I'm here because I liked Obsidian's games I've played until now. I bought Alpha Protocol because their track record, plus previews and dev comments etc. made me interested in the game, and most probably, it will happen again with Fallout : New Vegas. Not the other way around. I don't care for supporting a company that makes games I don't like, sorry for the bluntness.
  11. Well, Bethesda confirmed the game will be at E3 (who would have guessed uh? ), and we've already discussed the new info we got from the previews so...
  12. Well.. yeah. Though we still know so little about it that's difficult to know how promising the game would've been. Certainly the art direction, judging by just those concept arts, was something... unusual.
  13. I'm, uhm, unsure. What the hell that .png means?
  14. As with every game some people encounter bugs, some people don't (lucky fellows!) and some people can't even start the game. So, if you didn't encounter bugs, I'm happy for you, hope you enjoyed the experience.
  15. I haven't played the game, but considering that Veteran starts with 3 points in every skill, it should actually significantly reduce the challenge.
  16. Stupid question but.. you have completed the game in recruit mode, right? Because that's the requisite for veteran mode.
  17. Fallout New Vegas is pretty much a guaranteed success, at least as far as score and initial sales go. It will be interested seeing how the game will be remembered though. I'm pretty sure reviewers were all 'yay' about KOTOR2 when it came out, yet now it's mainly remembered for its cut content. Anyway, I have faith in Josh, going by the way he answers here on the forums, on Formsprings etc., he seems to have his heart in the right place. Not that I don't like Avellone, but Planescape : Torment suffered much less from its mediocre gameplay because combat wasn't the focus, and KOTOR II had a lot of painful combat sequence that basically amounted to me spamming Force Lightning. Won't comment on Alpha Protocol, but looking at the reviews, it seems that all Avellone's titles, with all their differences, are characterized by similar problems and strengths.
  18. Really? I never saw these. Any chance you could dig up a link? I think I saw them a couple of years ago, so I'll search but to be honest, I doubt I can find them. =(
  19. Yeah, I confused you with edgarcuk sorry.
  20. I'm a sad panda. I though it was an announcement for a chat/interview with Obsidian's team, or something similar.
  21. me too, hehe. That is such a fanboy statement, whenever someone says something that is against what they believe, it becomes a automatic response - TROLL!!! Trolls love to call other people trolls Fanboys love to conTROLL everything don't they? Since I'm one of the few people to criticize AP on this forums, calling me a fanboy is a joke. The fact you think ME is better does not make you a troll. This does: Well I personally like ME better, does that make me a troll??? I think not. I never said I hated AP, in fact I like it. I call this a serious case of fanboyism because when a person is so tight to the point of not being able to accept other people's opinion, they are butthurt over something and it is plain to see that the poor reviews this game has recieved is making more than a few people in need a butt pillow...with a lot of cusion., lol Have you ever thought about the way you put it? Honestly it came across as condescending and smug. Not exactly the way I'd like to present myself on a new forum.
  22. Now you're starting to think like me. Which would make you a horrible freak of nature, so change your ways while you can, fool! I'm already a horrible freak of nature, I mean, I made a cannibal joke with a girl that I like, you can't really get more freaky than that.
  23. I thought Seven Dwarves was Project New Jersey? Dunno. She never referred to it as such, and since we already knew the title of Seven Dwarves it strikes me as strange. Then again, it could be. After all, the only thing we saw about Seven Dwarves it's a couple of concept arts.
  24. You're not in the industry IIRc, yet you can verify the accuracy of his knowledge? That kinda undermines it, don't ya think? And if he is a real developer...he may just as well be a trolling..I dunno, Blizzard employee. It's not like game devs are saints either. **** do good jobs too, (un)fortunately. Let's just say I used a source to verify its plausibility. And yeah, as I've already said, that doesn't make it 100% true, because there still is the possibility of a very elaborated troll. It's just that I can't see a reason why someone would troll like that. Then again, trolls are unpredictable and totally out of my reach when it comes to understandable motivations.
  25. Ideally bug-free games will never come out. The cut content and broken triggers in Knights of the Old Republic II were too noticeable for the public, so that now it's remembered as the 'cut content' game, even if actually for the first 3/4 the game was pretty good even with just the official patch for me. It's really just the ending that was a letdown imho. Oh, and there were flaws, but those are another can of worms, and even if they had thousands of years (yeah hyperboles!) probably the game would still have those flaws, simply because they were ingrained in the design. Uhm.. what were we talking about by the way?
