  1. So, it's still quite a jump from following an economic model to thinking you're the heir of the ancient lemurians and that jews have a secret plot to take over the world. But then again Americans do think that Obama=Hitler. Let's face it the free enterprise is down is up to whether we can interest the eastern market in investing that it will recover.
  2. Cut him a little slack, it was 8 years with the Bush administration which stands today as the worst. That's a whole of a mess to clean.
  3. It has a bearing because it was not only the hippies that were into drugs, soldier that had developed an opiate habit overseas had now a drug problem back home. Plus it was the presence of hippies and all of their political movement that indirectly launched the drug war, since it was the only way for Nixon to nail them. It also made the US the prime consumer for all the drug lords of south america and as soon as entrepreneurial spirits picked on the success of the drug trade they found their way into the US. Plus the traffic of marijuana also gave way for the cocaine overflow of the 80's since cocaine was easier to move by the bulk and more profitable traders changed product.
  4. Yet that still wasn't enough since those groups lack the resources to effectively fight the drug trade which went through a great revival in the 70's. When the war against drugs; with his clear political agenda was launched. The demand from soldiers coming back from combat and the hippies made America probably the biggest drug consumer in the world.
  5. The problem is that Americans have no self control when it comes to consumption, so most of these drugs that are still being abused are just being opened to a wider audience. Before I emit a piercing shriek, may I politely enquire where you got this idea? I'm talking here just from an American perspective since I don't know the legislation history of other countries. In early 1900's; IIRC, the safe food and drugs act passed which required that every product put on the label the ingredients and dosage and to be subject to federal inspection. At the time a lot of drugs that hadn't been properly tested and whose long term effects were unknown were being added to almost every product with a pitch sale of being a magical ingredient. Please, keep your temper down
  6. not like it actually proves your point. but are you sure about that? I mean teh witcher was a NWN total conversion at first, not a standalone game. the development started right when the aurora tools came out. That's because the Witcher uses the Aurora tools It's a vicious cycle!
  7. ...and there have not been any drug epidemics ever since... None related to giving your kids cocaine laced candy or the actual "Coca-Cola", and that's why; gentlemen, people used to beat kids savagely.
  8. Actually cocaine was given as an incentive to black workers because it's stimulant properties. Then came along the whole "cocaine crazed negro rapes white woman" and the cops asking for higher caliber guns. There are a lot of politics involved in drug legislation that have nothing to do with the harmful effects of drugs, the current war against drugs was a result of said causes and had mostly little to do with drugs.
  9. Dragon Age's advertising has always been terrible. More melodramatic or NEW **** than the actual game turned out to be. Not that Origins didn't at least try to be dark, edgy, and brooding. They were just smart enough to toss in three characters that were actually FUN to balance it out. I only count 2, who's the third?
  10. The only solution to the drug problem is for the state to take the role of the druglords and turn the drug trade towards alternative venues, not one of them a consumer. Legalization, i'm afraid that it won't be effective since most of these drugs were permitted once and even embraced. It was the series of drug epidemics that led to the banning of many products that used narcotics.
  11. Maybe to reduce the health risks of heroin use they could do like Russia and give proper instructions on the use of needles . . . and condoms.
  12. Its a little hard to get a handle on it, but the biggest kill; and we knew this before its release, was the fact that the DA toolset is a power tool. So not everyone is going to know how to use it, the amount of experience required to make a decent mod is a little high. So any great projects eventually fell through the cracks because of this. Maybe there will more mods coming on the next months, but seeing as there is such little involvement and that DA2 is coming so soon I seriously doubt it. From the looks of it DA2 will be even less user friendly than its predecessor.
  13. There is little room for impartiality when there is atrocities like these committed. When the best you can do to a balanced report is say that not everyone is like the Taliban or that not everyone participates on their atrocities, you realize the extent of control that the Taliban has over the area and why interference is necessary. The media itself i'm a little on the fence; I don't know if it's because there aren't as many reporters on the area, or the military wants to keep a lid on thing, or the companies agree that the war doesn't equal ratings, but there aren't as many news as I would like. This a war that is being called "The secret war", maybe it's just here on the US but the subject has fallen off anyone's radar, it takes a scandal to remind everyone that we are still at war.
  14. It is really hard to make anything, everything about the game is a little to constricted for large scale projects. It lends itself, mainly for minor tweaks, and quests. Plus it's been like a year and all that the nexus have is a bunch of morrigan's headmorphs.
  15. I believe the official word is "it's the same tools as Dragon Age, we're looking into making an update." So basically the mod scene will be another disappointment like DA:O
  16. Speaking of disappointments does anyone knows if they are going to release the modding tools for DA2
  17. When people say nemesis I expect confrontation, I expected to be haunted and hunted by it not a random encounter; fighting optional.
  18. Howe for noble humans, the nobleman guy who tried to rape the elves in the city elf origin (he's in Howe's dungeon I think). There was none for mages, which a demon would had fitted the bill and reinforced the fact that possession was an ever present danger. None for the Dalish, and frankly all that the rest had was a different introduction to the same fight you would had faced if you had another origin. There was a lot that DA:O didn't deliver IMO they should fix that for DA2 instead of trying to make a completely different game.
  19. It's nice to see what paranoia can achieve in the other direction. Orogun, sorry I snapped at you. I agree that the answer is not just military. But nor is it just economic. It needs a political spark within the country that I don't see. But while that may seem unlikely it is far from impossible. Your point was fair though and we have been over this before Whilst politics factor in the ultimate solution I believe that the only viable and durable answer is to treat their condition as pre-fiefdom. Just a bunch of military powers spread out that need a stronger force to rein them in; it may not be the most humane solution or modern enough but in this fight we need to compromise and lower ourselves to their level on some points.
  20. The endings should have been much better. And the impact that your origin has on the gameplay, aside from the racial bonuses and the occasional "eww, you are an elf" there was nothing noteworthy. In the end you were the Warden, plus I remember someone talking about a nemesis from each origin showing later. Never saw it.
  21. There is a great difference, the area is more fragmented, just a bunch of warlords trying to push their interests. Even if we are able to topple the current strong force we are just paving the way for the next one. We cannot hope to destroy all of the groups and even if they are willing to cooperate with the allies now, tomorrow their allegiance may change. So yes, we need to remain in the area but the final goal shouldn't be stabilization of an area that requires more warfare than we may be able to churn out. Instead we should be focusing on strengthening their government so that they may be able to maintain stability.
  22. Well, if we start naming games for what they do
  23. Pulling out should be the main concern now because; let's face it not even a miracle would bring stability to that region. They should create a strong autonomous govern that can face the insurgents by itself. In the end no matter what we do it's going to bite us on the arse, today's allies are tomorrow's enemies. It was that way with Russia and with the Afghans.
  24. Shouldn't you say something like previous thread last page or something like that?
