Well Dragon Age was supposed to be all about Thedas and it's history, it's amazing that they haven't leaked more details of the story. Probly because it will truly turn out to be Dragon Effect, all fantasy art and no substance. We live in dark times indeed

That's the problem with small countries, everybody knows everybody or at least that's what they think and mistakes haunt you forever. Which makes them worse as a totalitarian state since the individual lives with the concern of expressing the wrong thought. Whilst I don't think that a democracy is necessarily what is best for China but it's these kinds of events that need to change. They can't be a superpower and close themselves to the world or close their people to the world. If the majority is truly with them then they shouldn't be afraid of a few dissidents, acknowledging them only perpetuates the notion that they are oppressive. I truly think that China can change without conflict, they have been steadily opening up to the West and have even changed their views from what it was the Old "Ultra-Communist" China to a more enterprising country. More influence from the West on Chinese affairs will slowly but surely make a dent on their policies. If not we only need to realize that we share a symbiosis with them, if we tilt the scales on our side in a way that makes them redundant we gain the upper hand and we can impose our views on them. Economics is the new battlefield.

The threat is entirely perceive only by our part, no doubt. There are still remnants of Cold War thinking and the "Great America", we act as the police of the world, as the world's foremost superpower and we consider ourselves so. China is threatening that view and we wish to bring them under our power, specially because of the economic reasons you mentioned. The recent spike in anti-Chinese communist regime propaganda is merely the result of of the attention that has been put on China and the east in general. We would feel more comfortable if China was another Japan, meek and accommodating. You are right, it was similar in my case; the middle class is usually the one that promotes these desires. But bringing in Maslow's pyramid of needs here; it's because the rest is so occupied with thoughts of survival to concern themselves with a revolution. So it's up to those people to push the issue precisely because of their social standing and education, that's usually how revolutions are: some cultured individual starts an idea, pushing for change and if the economical situation is perilous the rest will rally behind it. The problem is that these ideas shouldn't be met with such extreme force by the government and it only lends credibility to the need for change. It's this isolationist behavior that the free market can't tolerate. P.S. If I may be so indiscreet; may I ask which was your country's regime?

Is it something you squeeze "out" of the bratwurst?

Then she just needs to keep the mask on. I'd still be inclined to double bag. One for her, and one for you, in case hers comes off. All in the wonderful world of Fantasy RPGs

I agree with you that China's political system should be authoritative, it's a cultural and historical fact that they do better under strong leadership. The US and allied power is threatened by China; as they are by anything different from their views ever since the Cold War. The problem with Communism is that is an expansionist government and an anti-capitalist movement, their main goal is to spread communism to the corners of the globe and "liberate" all the oppressed laborers under the capitalist yoke. It is therefore something to be threatened by even if the Chinese are only Communist in name and have a free enterprising society like our own. As with any rising tensions and forthcoming conflict in our history; the press is the first to demonize the enemy and push for a conflict. As usual we wait until they deliver the first strike and unleash all of our fury (history repeating itself :sigh: ) Even though the fact remains that a woman was arrested for tweeting because it's considered political dissent. As someone who has experienced a Communist regime first hand I'll tell you that this is the sort of bull that tends to run the most. They watch you, they tell you what to think, and they'll bury you if you speak against them and call it "political dissent". I would not be surprised if we found out that they are committing more atrocities inside these camps; it may not be reason enough to go to war but it's enough to pressure them into change.

Odin usually comes as the All-knowing Sky Father rather than the mage. The reference probably comes from Gandalf's names Olorin and Stormcrow, and mostly visually being the same image as Odin the Wanderer (even acknowledged by Tolkien himself) but his character comes across as a mentor to both Frodo and Bilbo. Just like Merlin was to Arthur.

Or he could develop the unifying theory of everything Sorry I couldn't help myself; at any rate I always hold scientist in high regard, right on brother! @Monte Carlo: scientist is actually a good paying job in America right now since we have so few scientists, even less that are national. It's actually a good career choice.

The Classless 14% Strength, 19% Bloodlust, 33% Intelligence, 14% Spirit, 10% Vitality and 14% Agility! Somehow you completely failed at achieving a class. How in the world did you manage that!? O_o But I guess it makes you sort of unique? A jack of all trades and a master of none, you are the Classless! kind of a fun quiz

China 'hijacks' 15% of world internet traffic

But those are made on a daily basis, right? We are talking of an emergency scenario here, such as China stealing our info. Such things require some human involvement to max the response time to the possible crisis. -
The Tolkien's wizard seem more in touch it the general archetype of the wizard that had been popularized by ancient myths. Gandalf is a mentor/hermit figure, which kinds of puts him at the same level as Merlin from the Arthurian myth. Maybe that was the inspiration, seeing as Tolkien borrowed a lot his myths from Anglo and Nordic mythology.

They probably have programs running that are able to swift through the immense amount of data and organize it so that its easier for them to analyze. Sort of having their work "pre-chewed" before they bite. Still it would take a boatload of analyst to match 15% of the internet (even without counting all that porn). Well, that's my point... there's so much that the programs have to sift through that even if they reduced the load by 90% you'd probably still be wayyy behind. It's probably made on a piece by piece basis, if the programs only released the results at the end of their analysis what you say would probably be true. More likely that data is constantly being processed for analysis so that it doesn't pile up. With priority/privileged information being at the top of the list. -
Not to burst your bubble but if you still think that WMD had anything to do with Iraq you must be slow in the head. No offense but the main driving force behind war has always been economics and it's the main reason why we don't attack China. That, and that it would be a strategic mess that would end on WW3.
