Actually, they could have thirty projects going on at once if they wanted to. Back in the days, it only took ONE programmer to write an entire game from scratch. They even used to compose the music and make the sound effects themselves.. Nowadays they have 30 people on the same game, coding "modules".. Geez. And I still think the Ultima's beat the crap out of 95% of todays RPG's!

I have no idea how I ended up on THIS site, but it is by far the dumbest and ugliest I've ever seen. And don't blame me if your teacher spanks you for showing him that piece of rubbish.

I think the FPS style is the best way of playing an RPG because it allows me to play the game through the character's (that I've created myself, not necessarily by using skils/levels/attributes, but by name and such) eyes. The skills should be directly visible to me at all time (such as bad aiming when low level) but I want to execute all the action myself. To me a game like Planescape: Torment is less of a RPG than STALKER is, because in that game, when you start it up for the first time, you already have a name, a history and a "reputation" within the game world. That makes it impossible to play anyone else than the Nameless One, thus it isn't role playing to me. But you're absolutely right: this isn't a big deal. We'll just play the games we like in whichever fashion suits our tastes. I'm sure I'll be sneaking around STALKER in a cowardly RPG style in a near future anyhow

Come to think of it, Lionheart 2 could probably be a good game. It just needs more heart, a better story, a more interesting main character, a better game world, improved combat and upgraded graphics.. Uhm. Did I forget something? Oh yeah, a new name. How about "Poodleheart"?

New Project Naming Format
mkreku replied to The Guildmaster's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
How.. informative.. What do we know about Delaware? Someone who has a clue about american geography solve this mysterious name change riddle thingie! I am sure there's a lot of info somewhere in that name! I also believe Elvis lives. -
Games that lack just one of several different RPG criterias, aren't automatically not RPG's. I am sure it'll be possible to role play in STALKER, even though there's no character advancement. Due to my FPS skills I'll be playing the sucky Stalker who gets killed every fifth minute. STALKER has a huge, free world, lots of NPC's with agendas and dialogue trees and a bundle of quests. That is enough for me to classify it as a RPG. But I am sure it's playable as a regular FPS too.

Right now is a difficult time to buy an upgradable computer, since both AMD and Intel are in the middle of a generation change in CPU's.. Meaning that both Barton and.. uhm.. Intel's Pentium 4 line of CPU's (forgot the name) are out of their development cycles. They're as fast as they will ever get, they won't be upgraded anymore. So to be able to upgrade for the future now you'd have to buy the newest, most expensive CPU's, like Athlon FX 3200 and such. Also, a new card standard is coming in a few months, PCI Express, which will be faster than old PCI and AGP. So graphic cards bought now will also become "useless" in a few months time. But if you need a computer NOW, I'd go for an AMD system with a Radeon card. Maybe AMD Athlon XP 2800+, 512 DDR, Radeon 9600 XT, 120 Gb hd. They're being sold at budget prices.

that would be an interesting house of ill repute...I don't imagine we'd have problems recruiting researchers. Yeah, probably not, but with my luck, if I volunteered for the job I'd end up having to "research" the orcish looking woman..

The closest thing I've ever owned to a console must have been my first computer: a Spectrum ZX 48 Kb.. so no, I am not a console owner. If you play KotOR, you'll see lots of places that are unopenable. Same with Mistmare, Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, Lionheart, and so on. There are quite a few of them out there. But I was mostly thinking about a 3D world, filled with houses where NPC's live, sleep, and eat. It is probably much easier to make houses enterable in isometric games, since lots of those types of games have all enterable houses. Shenmue sounded like a 3D game set in modern time, complete with skyscrapers and supermarkets. That's what sounded good to me.

Maybe piracy is just the common man's way of expressing an opinion? If I didn't get free games for being a games reviewer (one hell of a benefit!) I would probably get pirated games. Why? Because, as many have said, it is just a game, a luxury, and it is certainly not worth 500 SEK (68-69 american dollar) to buy just one game. If there weren't pirated copies, what could people do to protest against computer game prices? Not buy the games? Well, the problem with game distributors is that they're smart. They hire economists who calculate exactly where the fine line of "too much" is, and then they put the price of their games just below that line, to be able to make as much profit as possible, and people keep buying the games even though they cost a lot because it still costs below their threshold of "too much". Piracy gives people a fair chance to "vote" in the matter. Instead of making the personal sacrifice of having to tell their kids "Sorry kid, you're not getting any games this year. Daddy's protesting.", they can still play the games (at the risk of viruses, without manuals, having to deal with strange installation guides and so on) while sending a message to distributors that the price is too high. If distributors of games would lower the prices to acceptable levels, noone would bother with pirated games. Who wouldn't want an original Ultima cloth map, for example?

Imagine if it had said "P.S. Favorite RPG is a toss up between Dungeon Siege and Diablo. Non-RPG is much harder to pin down." instead of the two great games he mentioned now. I honestly think I would have left these boards forever, just like that. *snaps fingers*

Oh, I know they autoshrink it.. But the upload size limit is 60 Kb. The original picture was just a tad bit bigger than that. (Try ten times bigger.)

Well, I wasn't exactly implying that driving and barging into people's houses were the only things you could do in the game. Of course, you'd need a good set of RPG rules, interesting character development and a well written main story too.. But I was trying to mention the "New Ideas" that I really would like to see in a RPG. Was just trying to be on topic, not trying to be vague

My mom is better at HTML than me. It's kind of embarrassing since I'm the one taking computer science classes at the university.. (But I own her in Java! Woo me.)

Now THAT's what I'd like. Freedom to open each and every door I see (and take the consequences for doing so). That and customizable, driveable vehicles in a full 3D, third person viewed world, of course..

Am I the only one who believe they are working on Planescape: Torment 2?

Connery IMO was the best Bond, he was charming and tough. Roger Moore may have been good in Saint but he was too soft for a Bond. Brosnan was IMO nearly as good as Connery, but as someone said before the newer Bond movies were quite crappy if you count out the Aston Martin in the beginnig of Golden Eye Wow! My thoughts exactly.. Not often I see someone who thinks exactly like myself. What a weird feeling

It looks a lot like a regular (but very good looking!) FPS, but if you read about it on their own site, they, themselves, like to compare it to Fallout and Morrowind. Of course, we'll just have to wait and see until it comes out, but DAMN it looks good!

I think you mean Static, which was an IGF entry, but sort of stalled after they lost the competition :? Uhm.. not really. I had never heard of Static, but if you click on the little underlined word "Wardog" in my post, you'll see what I was referring to.

There is this 3D Fallout clone that's been under development since like.. 2001, I think it was when I first heard about it. Anyhow, if it's ever completed it might be worth adding to the list. Wardog

Argh, you are too fast! I was looking for the official home page for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines when you updated the list.. Oh, and Xenus IS a RPG, trust me. Lots and lots to read about it on the net, check out this link for example.. "3D action/RPG" it says.

A few other RPG's under development (off the top of my head): Stalker: Oblivion Lost Sacred Beyond Divinity Xenus Bard's Tale (InXile) A.I.M.

You should try "Super Hero League Of Hoboken" which is a great, but old, game. Otherwise there's always "Freedom Force" where you create your own super heroes and even add their special skills and stuff. Great RPG actually. Much newer and it has good 3D graphics.

Care to share some of them with us? It's fun to read other people's strange ideas.

What view would you like in Project X?
mkreku replied to mkreku's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Uhm.. I think I included that highly popular RPG-view in "Other".. By the way, this might be SLIGHTLY off topic, but since people seem to prefer pre-rendered isometric views in their RPG's, take a look at this game, Sacred. It's being developed in Germany right now, and it actually looks quite good even though it is pre-rendered. You can even zoom in the graphics in the game world. Weird. Anyhow, just a tip for anyone searching for an isometric RPG to long for..
