  1. I've seen a lot of threads where people have been discussing various styles they would like to see in Project X. Personally I'm mostly interested in which view you'll be able to see the world through.. So which will "win"? Which is the most popular world view among the readers of Obsidian Entertainment forums?
  2. Just curious, but which one element in Lionheart was it that ruined it for you?
  3. Yes, and I, personally, think RPG's work better with lone heroes than with parties.
  4. I know, but I kind of put third person 3D games in the same category as first person 3D games.. It's like.. I think of Deus Ex (first person), Gothic (third person) and Morrowind (first and third person) as being in the same subgenre of RPG's. I do this with action titles too.. I call Max Payne 2 a FPS too, even though it's played in a third person view. Sorry if I'm confusing anyone.
  5. I thought FPS worked pretty well in KotOR even though I had a small gang of 3 people with me almost all the time. Except when I was running around in some location I forgot the name of and the corridors were really narrow and my little party got stuck all the time.. That sucked some, but other than that it worked.
  6. Needless to say I never ever played any Pen & Paper RPG's.. I tried, but we never got past the initial setup. We rolled dices to create our characters until we were blue in the face and then went outside to play football (soccer for the americans) instead.
  7. Yeah, he should have made TWO choices so it would be like "the lighthouse of democracy in the world", USA. Of course, then less than 50% of everyone who visits this thread would actually cast his/her vote and the candidate with less votes would win..
  8. Seriously, I think I played a game about cooking on my Commodore 64 a thousand years ago! I just can't remember its name, but you were definitely a chef.. It wasn't an RPG or anything and I think you just had to serve customers with food before they became angry and left. Great fun!
  9. A bulletin board is not only a waste of time. Read this: The sun weighs 330 000 times more than planet Earth. See? Now you've (probably) learnt something new today. Anyhow, I come to these boards to chat with people sharing the same interests as me. I also write game reviews for Sweden's biggest online gaming site, so if Obsidian ever posts any news about their project here, I'll be one of the first to know. I don't think it's a complete waste of time. Mostly, but not complete.
  10. I actually think this board is already shaping up nicely.. Imagine what will happen once Obsidian Ent. ends up in the news when their Project X is finally officially announced! Then we can PARTAYYY! (as someone wrote)
  11. Beyond Wasteland Wasteland 2000 Wasteland Revisited Wasteland 2 Atomic Mega Super Wasteland ++ Wasteland 3D Deus Ex: Wasteland The Elder Scrolls 4: Wasteland
  12. I also thought the isometric view was way better and above everything else on the market. But then along came Deus Ex (which, by the way, is a CRPG, if you want it to be), Gothic and Morrowind and changed my opinion about game engines. Now every RPG I play feels unfulfilling to me, because the immersiveness I experienced in the Gothic games just can't be touched by a pre-rendered 2D world. I seem to be quite alone in this, but I really hope their next project is a full 3D-game, featuring a huge world with physics and all. If it's possible to play it as a FPS (like Deus Ex was), fine! That works for me too! Two games in one must be better than just one, right?
  13. Haha, you REALLY need to check out the game Wasteland..
  14. That's a rather strange place to keep your money in.. I use a bank myself.

    Horror Films

The last movie that really scared me was "The Sixth Sense".. Maybe it was because I had no idea what kind of movie it was when I went to the theatre (I was mostly expecting Die Hard 8 or something), or maybe I just have a thing for schoolgirls puking on me in tents. I don't know. But that movie scared the living.. thingies out of me!
  16. Uhm.. You nailed it. By the way, you're not allowed anywhere near sharp objects, are you?
  17. Ultima IX: Ascension was very buggy at release, and it didn't even have proper Direct X support. But it ran like water on a system with a Glide-compatible graphics card! Anyhow, the game was heavily patched, and the last patch (unofficial patch) was even said to have been developed personally by a disgruntled member of the development team who was mad that EA left the game with such an unfulfilling graphics engine. I recently (about a year ago) bought this game in a games sale. I found this huge box lying at the bottom of a barrel full of games. Imagine my surprise when I saw it was an Ultima game, complete with cloth maps and all. Needless to say, I bought it. And it still works perfectly, even under Windows XP! And I must say it's much better suited for today's computers. I'm running a standard rig (2800Mhz, Radeon 9800 Pro, 512 Mb) and after tweaking it HEAVILY I'm getting viewing distances that are almost fantastic (almost like Gothic!), polygon counts that even todays games have trouble competing against and a game design that's way better than I ever hoped for. It doesn't really feel like an Ultima, probably because of the change of game designers, but it sure as hell works as a game on its own.
  18. Uhm.. Does the "words" CEO and Obsidian Entertainment mean anything to you? Try combining them perhaps? In a sentence..?
  19. Actually, I blame all the flaming and trolling on those 6 guys/gals from Australia! I am sure they're responsible for the disorder somehow. I mean, what else could come out of a country that once served as a gigantic prison? (Oohh, now the australians will hate me too! Aaiieeh!)
  20. I browse the internet with Mozilla Firespam, what do you use?
  21. Good to see that the europeans are so far dominating the poll! That must mean that we, the Europeans, are more.. uhm.. intelligent (uh, yeah) than the rest of the world! Using my superior logic I come to the conclusion that anyone who visits these exquisite boards must be here because they are clever and play RPG's (which are clever) and therefore the most clever part of the world must be where most of the clever people come from. Europe! Of course, this logic won't hold if some other part of the world suddenly takes the lead..
  22. I agree that Ultima 7 was a really good game, although I never got the speech to work. Ever. But it's disturbing to hear people say that Ultima 8 & 9 weren't "real" Ultima games. Well, in that case, neither was Ultima 7! I have played the Ultima series from the very beginning, Ultima 1, and that was nowhere near Ultima 7 in either gameplay, setting (the world was known as Sosaria!) or even atmosphere. It was mostly hack & slash, with a few short quests thrown in for good measure. Ultima 2 was mostly more of the same, but this time the world had evolved and started to resemble what most people think about when they hear Ultima; Britannia. The biggest change in Ultima 3 was the ability to form a party of adventurers. This and the combat engine was what separated it from the previous games in the series. Not until we reach Ultima 4 does Ultima start to resemble what most people associate Ultima with: The Avatar. It had colour graphics (!), a huge, interesting world, real conversations with NPC's (typed in by hand!), lots and lots of side quests and your ultimate goal wasn't only to "kill the bad guy in the end" but also to become a lighthouse of hope for the people of Britannia, by following eight different virtues. (Side note: Ultima 4 is the Ultima I, personally, consider to be the true Ultima). Ultima 5 was just more of Ultima 4, but with twice as much world to explore (the Underworld) and more features built into the NPC's, the combat and the overall world interaction. It also had a very strong main story, probably the best in any of the Ultimas, but the game never felt as "fresh" as Ultima 4. Ultima 6 entered the scene in 1990 and, unfortunately for the game, by this time the graphics had taken the central role in a game's success. It had great graphics (for its time), a fully interactive world and all the names/characters of an Ultima game. Yet it didn't feel like one. Maybe it was the cumbersome controls or the weak story, I don't know, but this is probably the weakest of all Ultima games. Then along came Ultima 7 which revived the series once more. This game has been excellently explained in another post so I won't go through it again, but it really is a great game, even by todays standards (You can still play it using DosBOX 0.61). Ultima 8 was a great step forward, since the graphic style became more important than the actual gameplay. It was a brave attempt but unfortunately the game engine was so clumsy it didn't work out. It did, however, have a decent story and all the ingredients of a classic Ultima otherwise. People tend to forget that. Ultima 9.. What can I say. Personally I love this game. It has superb graphics. It still works, even under XP. It has lots and lots of equipment, quests, spells, NPC's, locations and so on. What it lacks is.. continuance. It doesn't take the Ultima story in a new direction and it doesn't even try to build on the previous games. But it is still a great game in itself! Who is to decide which of these (mostly) great games are "real" Ultima's or not? People tend to think that their favourite in the series is what the entire series is all about. What if the _first_ game in a game series define what the entire series is about? In that case the Ultima's are nothing more than Diablo-style games with extremely crappy graphics..
  23. Since I'm a reviewer for a large games site myself, I was wondering where I could get a chance to read the reviews of this Visceris person? Fortunately, my reviews are in swedish and since Babelfish hasn't implemented the "swedish to english" function yet, and none of you understands a word of what the swedish chef says, I'll be safe for now. I might even dare to laugh quietly to myself if the reviews are as bad as some people on these boards have hinted.. So.. Where are the masterpieces?
  24. Ok, just a quick note to let everyone see my pathetically high number. Yeah, yeah, so the world and her grandma found out about this board before me. Not like I'm gonna cry myself to sleep over it.. (*sob* *sob*)
  25. Fallout 3 with the FarCry graphics engine.. *DROOL* Ok, so maybe Deus Ex 3 would be a better suit for that engine, but still..
