  1. Well, the Unreal Engine 3 is the hot item of today, so basically I was hoping they'd use that engine instead. It supports streaming maps, so the possibility is there for game creators to make loading sscreens much less common. That's assuming that the invisible loading is as well done as in Dungeon Siege 2.. or GTA: San Andreas.. or perhaps World of Warcraft.. Also, there's a third party software that's usable with Unreal Engine 3 that can provide the same lip sync as in Half-Life 2. (http://www.epicgames.com/press_facefx.html) Edit: Link messed up.
  2. Maybe this time around they would have the technical skills to not make the game "leak" and behave like a total system hog. Imagine the fluidity of Half-Life 2 in the world of Bloodlines.. I dig! I would much prefer they switched engines completely though. As much as I enjoyed the incredible lip sync of Half-Life 2, I'd rather see bigger maps and less loading times in between them. Nothing kills immersion as much as constant loading screens.
  3. It wasn't very pleasant being swedish either a few days ago. Sweden lost to Finland in overtime, but won the shots something like 53-24. It didn't feel quite right. Time heals all wounds!
  4. I'm not surprised at all. Has anyone here seen Allison skate? ME NEITHER. The guy is slower than my grandma! Lindros looked great for a short period of time at the beginning of the season but has become invisible ever since. Sometimes they even lose him in the dressing room, he's that invisible.
  5. I had no idea they made two-story trailers now. Wow. The only games I think I'd want to see on the Xbox 360 are MMORPG's. The Xbox 360 should be pretty safe from hacks and cheats (at least for a while) and the only games really getting an advantage out of that are MMORPG's. World of Warcraft perhaps? Blizzard has said they have no plans on doing a Xbox 360 version, but who knows. I just hope it doesn't get too many good games until it goes down in price and I can afford one! Everyone realizes that we all will have to get one eventually since Bioware and Obsidian are sure to be supporting it with everything they make, right? Annoying that I want all three next generation consoles. I didn't care about the Xbox or the Gamecube for this generation, but they got me for the upcoming ones. Damn my weak self!
  6. I can't stress the importance of you getting Resident Evil 4 enough. It's a must have. Just check out which game Gamespot chose for 2005 Game Of The Year..
  7. Steen made a comeback from his dislocated thumb injury and really got Toronto's top line of Chad Kilger (!) - Mats Sundin - Alexander Steen working again. Kilger had 2 goals, Steen and Sundin 2 assists each. It annoys me that they had to win it in overtime (and on a lucky bounce), but a win is a win even if it is an ugly one. Six straight wins and still eight points behind Ottawa.. Wow. Thanks for the Malkin link, Kor!
  8. Gothic 2 doesn't use Starforce. Neither does the expansion. I bought my copy of Gothic from the UK (Amazon) but I haven't been able to find the Gothic 2 Gold yet, at least not in Sweden. Those who have played it usually think the game is better with the expansion (even though it's still unpolished) because it's even more difficult, bigger and more diverse.
  9. Bevcause iyts sO VERYU DIFICUKLT to fakwe drunkenm postinhg!1!
  10. Atlanta beat Washington tonight, 5-2. But.. Ovechkin: 6 goals, 6 assist for 12 points in the last 6 games (including tonight where he also scored one).
  11. Make K3, just don't let Obsidian make it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why not Obsidian? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because they have better things to do. (Like that post apocalyptic Unreal 3-engine powered game that Project New Jersey will turn out to be!)
  12. I think STALKER is the perfect example of a game that just dies after getting a lot of early (wayyyyy too early) hype. I'm still interested in the game, if it ever comes out, but imagine if they had the hype machine they had for the game back then a few months before the actual release? At one point we had nothing but STALKER news and articles on Spel
  13. I think it's good that they're trying to reinvent themselves a little. Ok, so they failed that with Warrior Within, but still.. It's better than just doing like EA and barfing out the same game with new textures every single year, while incrementing the number in the title by one. Go Ubi! Brave attempt at least!
  14. Toronto is only one point behind the Oilers and they have played one game less. This five game winning streak is the longest of the season for the Leafs. That should tell you something about the season the Leafs are having.. Jagr is already looking like he's going to win the scoring title. Wonder what happened to him.
  15. I only have a slight headache and a runny nose. Nothing a little Curadon can't cure. Happy New Year!!
  16. There are several roles in a hunting team. Some guys (usually the older ones) like to sit in towers all day and get fat. Some guys like to sneak around with their guns and wait for the prey to come running at them, and some guys do all the work with their dogs, trying to get the prey to move in the direction of the sneaking guys and the guys just sitting in the towers (getting fat). As I am one of the guys who walk around a lot, using our family dogs to scare the prey, I don't get to do much shooting at all. But I do carry around a rifle in case I stumble on some deaf animal. The reason I don't like killing comes from one time when I shot a bird. I hit it right in the chest with a bullet (not shotgun!) but the damn thing didn't die. It flew out over a field and crashlanded in the middle of it, some 150-200 meters (yards) away. The sick thing is that it let out a death scream all the way, that sounded something like human baby crying out in death anxiety. Since then I've not felt comfortable shooting anything. I might need to mention that I was very young at the time of the bird incident..
  17. I just got back from a champagne and firecracker party. It's 4:30 in the morning and I am off to bed. Happy New Years!
  18. Just pump Alfredsson full of painkillers and he'll be fine. Anyhow, I continue to be amazed by Ovechkin night after night. I really should stop obsessing about the guy, and I think I've been good at it for the last couple of weeks.. But did you see his plays against Philly? He really is one of the top players in the NHL, even though he is a rookie! Not many players can get my neckhair to stand on end in (almost) every game. Also.. LEAFS WON THEIR FIFTH STRAIGHT! Take that, Oilers fans! )
  19. I don't mean to sound like a smartass, but that is completely incorrect. You're not sounding like a smartass, but I just have to add that I do know the technical stuff behind antialiasing too (even if I would describe it slightly different than you), but that isn't the point of this thread (in my opinion). If you look at any screenshot and compare it without antialiasing and with antialiasing on, the difference you will notice is blurred, grayed out lines where the 'jaggies' used to be. The result of antialiasing is what I am discussing, because that is after all what we're seeing on the screen, even without knowing the methods behind those grey areas appearing. A good example is the closeup of figure 3 in the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antialiasing
  20. I like how he describes the Gothic series. ) Also looking forward to Gothic 3, Spore, Oblivion and the Witcher. Too many MMORPG's on that list.
  21. Sitting and playing a game on my Playstation 2 for too long, and when I finally give in and rush to the toilet I trip over the powercord, thus ruining five hours of unsaved progress.
  22. Antialiasing is (in my opinion) a highly overrated effect. The only thing that happens to the picture output when you turn on antialiasing is that the filter tries to determine where the edges are on things on the screen. When it finds an edge, it blurs out the edge by painting it in different shades of gray, making the optical effect of having a slightly less jagged edge. I agree with some of the posters in this thread who said the antialiased screen looks blurry, because that's really all the effect accomplishes. It's especially unnecessary if you're supposed to have something gritty and rough on the screen, because those types of things usually look better without antialiasing. Also, as most of you already pointed out, antialiasing is not worth it if you can play the game in 1280x1024 or higher. By that resolution the pixels are so small that any jagged edges look smooth by default. I much prefer anisotropic filtering, which is a filter that keeps the crispness of textures clean even if they're far away from the camera.
  23. I hunt. Moose, ripa (a kind of bird, no idea what you englishsissies call it), hare, fox, you name it. My problem is that I don't have a hunting license, but since my father mostly don't have weapon licenses for his guns (which I borrow) it doesn't matter much. I don't like killing things though, I am too squeamish for that, but I do enjoy shooting at random things in the wild
  24. What?? There wasn't?! Uh.. I mean, of course there wasn't! Never happened to me either! Nope, of course not Something must have gone horribly wrong in my game
  25. Uhm.. In Gothic you're playing a nameless criminal that starts out by getting tossed into a prison. Then you have to side with one of the three gangs inside the prison to be able to break out (actually destroy the entire prison).. You can't switch gangs though and there are no wardens.
