Ok.. so in the last eight games we're now at 1-7-0. Hoo-****ing-ray. GO LEAFS GO!

Does Obsidian intend to make an RPG like FO?
mkreku replied to roshan's topic in Computer and Console
What does that even mean? Don't have time for a 40+ hour game? Does that mean they buy Jade Empire (15 hours) and then never again buy another game because they don't have the time? Or they buy Gears of War, play it for 10 hours and then never play another game again because the don't have time? All these people not having time for a 40+ hour game only own ONE game that they've played once in their entire life because they don't have time for any more? A 40+ hour game is like four Gears of War-type games. Most gamers have more than four games. I am sure they aren't planning on playing the 40+ hour game from start to finish in one sitting. 40+ hours only means more value for your money. -
There's no truth in Playstation 3 being able to run Linux? Wow, right. No potential there, huh? There's no truth in Playstation 3 being able to use ANY 2.5" SATA hard drive? Right, no potential for upgrading there, huh? (And have fun shelling out the same amount of cash for Microsoft's own 20 GB hard drive as Playstation 3 owners pay for 100 GB equivalents.. with 7200 RPM speeds..) There's no truth in the Playstation 3 being difficult to develop for? Ok, let me explain. Gamespot did a graphics comparison between games on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 recently (Source: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162742/i...t&click=topslot ). The Playstation 3 lost. But the mere fact that the games are even comparable is actually something that makes the Playstation 3 reek with potential. The games for a console that's been out for over a year look comparable to the release titles on a console that's supposedly very difficult to develop for? Either the Playstation 3 is easier to code on than most people think (which would mean great potential for upcoming games) or the machine is powerful enough to compensate for shoddy programming (which means there's a lot of untapped potential still left in it). Either way: potential. I think you're short sighted. But you have the advantage of not having to look into the future to support your arguments, and I sense a slight anger towards the subject coming from you, so I guess I won't continue the discussion. I think the Playstation 3 has huge potential, you think it has no potential. The future will have to decide who's right. In due time. Why do I always end up defending the Playstation 3? I'm not even getting the ****ing thing.

I still haven't finished Neverwinter Nights 2, and I'm struggling with my diminishing interest in it. Right now I'd rate it a 6/10. I've enjoyed the dialogue and some of the story bits. The graphics were also better than I had expected after reading some of the complaints on this board. BUT.. the game is wayyy too linear for my taste. I usually like to solo games and that's not even an option in this one. The camera controls.. all I can say is that none of the available options feels natural to me. The bugs haven't bothered me at all, but it has crashed a few times. I'll probably change my score once I finish the game, but it'll take some time. The story just doesn't grab me, and when I can't go exploring or solving any kind of side-quests I get bored quickly. Why are all the maps so small? Why can't I enter any building I want to? Why are there invisible barriers in a game made in 2006?! For reference: 9: Wasteland, Gothic, Gothic 2, Ultima IV 8: Fallout 2, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Daggerfall, Dragon Quest 8 7: Fallout, Icewind Dale, Bloodlines + a bunch of others. 6: KotOR, KotOR2, Oblivion, Baldur's Gate etc. 5: Jade Empire, Planescape: Torment etc. 4: Morrowind, Arcanum etc. 3, 2, 1: Neverwinter Nights, Nox, Diablo, Final Fantasy X, Lionheart etc. Mostly games that bored me to tears.

I sure as hell don't feel that the Playstation 3 is a bargain right now either. But I do have the ability to foresee the potential and future development of the machine and all that surrounds it (and I won't even mention the Linux part of it). The Playstation 2 had the biggest library of games of all the consoles. The Playstation 3 might get there someday, thanks to Sony's connections with third party publishers. The controller sucks right now (as some people miss the rumble feature, me not included) but perhaps someone will find a way to make it work? Like perhaps a LocoRoco for the Playstation 3, where tilting the controller will tilt the world? It has potential to become good and useful. The Blu-Ray inclusion doesn't really bother me. History tells me that we'll need bigger storage formats soon. Perhaps not this year or next year, but soon. I mean, I am pissed if a game of today is being sold on a bundle of CD's instead of a DVD. It wasn't long ago when games were sold on floppy disks and CD's were the future. Blu-Ray will come in handy in two to three years. The bad thing about it is that it's not optional. The good thing about it not being optional is that it can be used for games, unlike the HD-DVD for the Xbox 360. It's all about potential and different trade-offs. I agree that almost noone has any use for 1080p right now. And, as expected, almost no games are using that resolution on the Playstation 3 yet. But flat screen TV's are outselling fat TV's by four to one in Sweden already. They are mostly 720p, with a few being 1080p. More and more TV's produced will be 1080p compatible though, as the screens for making LCD's will become cheaper and cheaper. Who knows what kind of TV we'll be using in two to three years time. Again, potential. The "next-gen" console games I am most interested in right now are Bioshock and Mass Effect (I'll exclude Assassin's Creed right now), two Xbox 360 exclusive games and that's a huge advantage for the Xbox 360. But the game I am actually playing the most right now? Singstar on the Playstation 2. Don't think for a second that the Playstation 3 won't be getting its fair deal of must-have titles too. The Playstation 3 is (still) all about potential. Some people like paying for potential, some people don't. It's all a matter of taste. Take our own money-pooping board member Bokishi for example: he just spent $600+ on a eVGA Geforce 8800GTX video card for his PC. That's more than what you'd have to pay for a Playstation 3. What made Bokishi shell out so much for that single video card? For one thing, it has hardware support for DirectX 10, even though no games will actually use DirectX10 until around February 2007. It's all about the potential. I should get a Wii.

Phil Kessel has cancer?! WTF, he's only 20-something years old! Fortunately it's the kind of cancer that's very treatable, but still.. http://cbs4boston.com/local/local_story_345230707.html I had heard the Bruins were having problems with Kessel, but not this kind of problem.

Cool. What server do you play on? ^_^ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What the heck is this game? I'm "playing" it right now but... but... I don't know what else to say! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://progressquest.com/oobag.php?name=mkreku

This doesn't sound like a LoveWolf at all.. more like a HateWolf :'(

I know we have lost SEVEN in a row, but it still brings a weak smile to my face when someone loses to the Blackhawks. Two seconds later I'm back in fetus position on the floor, sucking my thumb and sobbing uncontrollably.

I'm not only negative, I am bitter too!

I am also still eagerly awaiting the 1.10 patch. I'm hoping it's such a gigantic patch it'll be called 2.0 instead, but that's not really likely. Just fix as much as they can so the game is playable for an old Gothic fan like me and I'll be happy. It's incredibly frustrating not being able to play a game I've been looking forward to for so long. I'm guessing I'll be taking my first few, virgin steps on the mainland of Myrtana in time for Christmas. About time too.

Welcoming two new Obsidian devs in their own dedicated thread? Wouldn't that be almost as stupid as semi-banning someone for being unwelcoming to a newbie (with 38 posts all in all) who has no interest of ever becoming a regular on this board? I mean, they're not ever going to read this anyhow. Unless they do. And in that case: Welcome!

The Leafs are down 4-1 against Detroit going into the third period. Detroit has scored all their goals on the powerplay. This is the seventh game in a row that the Leafs have lost. I'm going to bed.

I'm using a motherboard based of the 975X. It's an Abit AW9D-MAX and it's easily the best motherboard I've ever owned. It was designed from the ground up for overclocking, and uses solid state capacitors and other high level stuff. I've been playing around with it since I got it and overclocking is extremely easy on it. I've had it up to 3.4 GHz stable on the stock air cooler! I've been up to 3.6 GHz but I didn't dare to keep it there until I've gotten hold of a more efficient cooler. I think I'm in love with my motherboard A bit pricey though.

Well, for one thing, is it in real time? What happens if I don't choose any of the (really bad) dialogue choices? Will he randomly select one or will there be an awkward silent moment just before my mates go Brokeback Mountain on my ass? Also, how do you know what your character will do when you choose one of the dialogue options? I mean, the main character jumped into one of the other NPC's faces when selecting one of the replies. I thought that was a bit overkill, but it didn't seem like he would do that judging from the text. A simple full-hand point (like my officers always did) and a stern order would have sufficed. It doesn't seem that intuitive to what you're going to get when you choose a two-three word sentence. Ok, maybe the game isn't in early stages, but it's not finalized. The point I was trying to convey is that it's still unoptimized code. The framerates weren't that bad considering this fact.

I found this on the official Gothic board. The bolded part was bolded by me. At least Gothic 3 has the coolest fans! He is 81 years old!!

For once I think the NHL is right. Humour is cool (like when some Swedish player kissed another player because they ended up on the big screen kiss-a-tron) but there's a line you cannot cross or it becomes mocking. I think it's difficult to joke about the officials without mocking them. And it's not like the life of a zebra isn't tough enough without the players openly mocking them during the game.
-
I checked it out in Quicktime 480p and I must say that it didn't exactly change the way I felt about this game already. The character models are amazing (even if the girl in white looks.. weird), the galaxy map reeks of potential (best thing about the game so far!), the dialogue system still confuses me and the combat looks horrible. I thought the framerate looked decent considering this is still in early stages, thus unoptimized.

"This game is gonna suck because.. uh.. the programmers are fat!!1 Yeah, that's it! They're FAT! And thus their game sucks! Because all games made by fat people SUCK! And I've run out of credible arguments for my negativity so I'll just settle for calling everyone FAT! Because that's what they are!" Except with self-inflicted bad language. I can't decide if it's unintentionally hilarious or just pathetic..

Your Daily Swedish Cultural Update: The black sculpture seen in the background behind the Yule Goat, is a masterpiece of the late British sculptor Henry Moore. It's called "Three Piece Reclining Figure", and it's an abstraction of a female body (probably his wife Irina) lying down. It it made of massive bronze and is worth appr. $6-7 million. So, basically what I'm saying is: if you fly over here to burn the goat, you can make a decent profit if you end up snatching the statue at the same time. It only weighs a couple of tons.
-
BUT THE DAMN GOAT IS STILL STANDING! Swedish pyromaniacs suck.
-
So basically.. We've lost four straight and we have a 2-0 lead going into the third against Atlanta. Things look bright. So what happens? Atlanta scores five goals in the last period, to send us to our fifth straight loss. Bye bye playoffs.
-
Actually, they explicitly said the goat would be able to endure napalm, as if that was the upper limit. Basically, I think you need something more violent than napalm. I wish someone would just throw a grenade at it or something. It doesn't have to burn.
