  1. Ok, everything I know about the candidates (except about Hillary) stems from me watching Jay Leno, so I really shouldn't even vote in a poll like this. But since less than 50% of the American citizens vote in the real elections, who cares, right? Anyhow, Barak Obama is an eloquent speaker with a powerful charisma. He seemed highly intelligent (something which is a huge relief after seeing Bush trying to form complete sentences..) and to the point. He didn't seem like the type who would say anything to win votes. If that's a good thing or a bad thing is up for discussion; a leader has to be able to listen to what the people want too. It was they who chose him, after all. If he gets chosen, I think the US future politics would be an exciting affair to follow. John Edwards was also very well spoken and kind of low key and humble. I personally liked that. I figure that he is the one who would suit my Swedish (left wing) tastes the most. He also mentioned his plan for US foreign politics and trust me, it sounded a hundred times better than anything that Bush has verbally vomited forth in the last few years. One thing that struck me was how connected with reality he seemed to be. He seemed very well informed about not only the US politics, but also other parts of the world, how they cooperate, how he wants the US to be more a part of the cooperation and such things. He didn't try to deny any mistakes that have been done (by the US governments of past) or try to "alter" history when asked difficult questions. I respect that a lot. Those two are my favourites, even though it would be kind of neat if the US showed itself to be ready for a female president. I'm just not sure if Hillary is the best choice though..

Woohoo, the Leafs got a very important win tonight, against one of our fiercest rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning! Still out of a playoff spot, but only one point behind the Islanders and Carolina. Of course, nipping at our collective heels are the Rangers and Montreal, both one point behind the Leafs. Great game by the captain though. This is important since the Leafs usually win when our captain has that fire in his eyes. This season has been pretty slow for him so far.
  4. That was pretty quick: http://www.dailytech.com/IBM+Shrinks+Cell+...article6454.htm I guess Sony are getting pretty desperate in the cost cutting on the Playstation 3. Anyhow, it's good for Sony, good for the consumer and even good for the environment. And in the long run it might even mean a price cut on the console!

Eight losses in a row? You're even suckier than the Leafs.
  6. Stop crying and stop lying. Jade Empire doesn't get better just because you get a Bio-gasm every time we talk about it. My cousin has an Xbox. I have a Playstation 2. Now who do you think bought Jade Empire the first time? I work as a games reviewer. I get games sent to me, even crappy ones. Now who do you think "bought" the second one? I would never pay for that piece of ****. Unfortunately, slapping "Special Edition" on a game and adding two previously scrapped combat animations to a game apparently warrants a second review. Not my call, but there it is. The forthcoming review will show the distributors (don't think the developers read Swedish) what I think of bad console ports and dumbed-down-for-the-masses Bioware game design. You just don't have a clue about anything, do you? But keep on lying, that's what you do best.
  7. I've replayed Jade Empire on the PC, and although I still don't see it as any kind of masterpiece, I think slightly higher of it now (seeing as I completed the game on my own and didn't have a three (five? I forget) year old girl handle the boring combat for me. The combat is useless though. I used the same two skills the entire game. One sword and one fist. When I got the Jade Golem, I had enough points to immediately max it out and from there on it was a breeze (not that it was ever difficult anyhow). But the first two-three chapters were really good! I did every side-quest (Open Palm) that I could find, "explored" the tiny maps and had a lot of fun. Then came the last chapters, where the game just rushes on and dies. The shoot'em up sequences are still lame as hell. Why didn't they at least put some sort of end boss in them?! Shooting wave after wave of generic enemies for a minute at a time is BORING. I finished the game in 18 hours.
  8. There's supposed to be a performance difference if you are using two different memory channels for your memory sticks now and suddenly break the symmetry with a third stick. But I had DDR-400 for a long while on my Abit NF7-S motherboard, and even if it was supposed to support those dual memory channels I never noticed any performance hit when switching between using one or two channels. I tried measuring it with 3DMark.. it wasn't measurable with that program at least.

  10. So you think you are a Transformers fan? Think again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03vCVejaEd8 Actually, I could very easily imagine Oerwinde being that yellow truck/cement blender.. thing that fell down and could barely get up again. PS. Sorry for the necro-post.
  11. This program might be able to help you figure out what kind of motherboard and memory types you have: http://www3.sympatico.ca/gtopala/siw_download.html It's very easy to use and it's free. Extremely informative too. This is what I got when I tried it on my work computer just now: ----- [Memory] ----------------------------------------------- Property Value Memory Summary Location System board or motherboard Maximum Capacity 4096 MBytes Memory Slots 4 Error Correction None Use System memory Device Locator Slot 1 Manufacturer Samsung Part Number M3 78T6553BZ3-CD5 Serial Number F2026416 Capacity 512 MBytes Memory Type DDR2 SDRAM Speed DDR2-533 (266 MHz) Data Width 64 bits Voltage SSTL 1.8V Error Correction None Refresh Reduced (.5x)...7.8
  12. No, sorry, I don't even remember how the damn thing looked. I just remember it was green and quite heavy for something you're supposed to wear on your head. Edit: Uhm.. I think you can forget about Generation 3 night goggles! http://www.opticsplanet.net/us-nightvision-14b-g3.html Unless you sell a kidney or something.

Actually, I've noticed that they're much tougher on boarding calls in international hockey than in the NHL. In the NHL it's very seldom someone gets called for charging (in the limited amount of NHL games I get to watch every season), but there's like one or two in (almost) every game in Sweden. Of course, in Sweden you're only allowed to take TWO strides before hitting someone, as opposed to THREE in the NHL. Maybe it's more difficult to determine if someone has taken more than three strides than it is to see more than two? Edit: Er.. I am getting boarding confused with charging. Anyhow, they are VERY strict with boarding calls too in Sweden. A few years ago a Swedish hockey player (Hans Norberg, 1989) was hit from behind, fell into the rink and broke his neck. He became paralyzed from his neck down. After that the refs in Sweden have been extremely strict with boarding calls.
  14. Everyone who's done army service in Sweden has tried night vision goggles. It usually involved a smoking officer 200 meters away in pitch black darkness and a bunch of giggling soldiers on a snowy hill in some backwater village. It was fun and it's amazing how much you see (if the object in question is smoking) but I don't see any practical use for it. It was kind of like looking through binoculars; no peripheral vision at all. Good for snipers, I guess. During wartime.
  15. They are two different incompatible standards. DDR2 is just an "evolution" of DDR, which means it's faster. That's basically it. This summer they'll introduce mother boards that can use DDR3 as main memory (it's usually only used in video cards so far). Video cards have moved on to GDDR4.

Good call. The day players feel it's worth using their sticks in that manner is the day hockey ceases to exist. Now if only they could have given Janssen a real suspension too..

Woohoo! The Leafs won against Ottawa! Come on, Leafs, we can make the playoffs! GO LEAFS GO!
  18. Final Fantasy 12. The game is weird. It's like a mix of open ended and linear, real time and turn based. The graphics are among the nicest I've ever seen on the Playstation 2. The character development system is bad though. No matter which puny enemy you fight, you get learning points. Some fights only last for like 5 seconds (because you're much to powerful for the enemies you face) but even then you end up getting a bunch of learning points. With these learning points you unlock new skills and powers on this weird chess board. The problem is that there's no really expensive skills to learn. I was messing around with the first few missions and unlocked basically everything the game had to offer within the first 20 levels (they hand out levels like candy in this game). I am level 40 something now and I have 10,000 unspent learning points. I have the choice of hoarding the learning points for no use at all, or spend them on all skills available and make every character exactly the same. I've been trying to distinguish my characters from another by making some use magic instead of weapons, some use axes instead of swords, and some use heavy armour instead of light armour. But I could easily buy every skill available on the entire chess board for every character by now. The story so far (not sure how far I've gotten) is complicated and not very gripping. I just trudge along, fighting bosses and watching incredibly beautiful cut-scenes every now and then. I'm having fun though.. I think. I have a feeling I'll get tired of this game relatively quickly. The killer is the character development problem. I mean, spending 20 levels without actually getting anything from it is just not fun. Luckily there are other things to occupy one's time with. You can hunt special monsters that are hard to find for a Hunter's Guild (very difficult). You can do contract kills for your clan (fun!). There are plenty of hidden side quests that you can work your brain over. Stuff like that is fun. I don't think I'll ever finish this game though.
  19. You know.. it IS possible to make a game with all those features working at the same time. Take Deus Ex as an example: combat is fantastic, character development is fantastic, level design is fantastic, writing & story are fantastic, and so on. You can have the cake and eat it, you just need very skillful developers who knows what they're doing. Sure, they may be able to "refine" the combat first and add a game later. But they have to hurry. Time is NOT on a games developers side. If they even take two years to add the gameplay (after the combat), the first part will be dated and obsolete. I honestly don't believe in that way of making a game at all, especially since arena based combat is so directly tied to the arena it takes place in. I don't think it's possible to lift out the combat from an arena shooter and implement it relatively untouched in another game.
  20. Yeah, I think it is. You can read more about it here: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=73693 It really sounds like utter crap.
  21. Yes, I know about it. Don't get your hopes up. They're turning it into a MULTIPLAYER FPS ONLY! It's the worst waste of a license I've ever seen. It won't even have a single player campaign! It'll be like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, only in the Shadowrun universe. Total waste of a perfectly good license.

You don't have to jump tandem. Actually, yes you do. In Sweden at least. Trust me, I looked it up. Not only that, you have to dry hump the ground for a few weeks before you even get a chance to jump from a plane! It's insane. It really should be up to ME to decide if I want to jump from a plane and how to do it. Being forced to practice jumping by lying on a floor holding up your arms and legs is retarded. If you ONLY want to parachute once or twice, you have to do it in tandem (like for a birthday present or some such). If you want to learn to do it on your own eventually, you have to dry hump the ground AND jump the first jumps in tandem.

I can't recall any situation quite like this one this season. Which one(s) are you referring to?

I was once determined I'd try parachuting.. until I found out that you have to do your first jumps in tandem.. with a guy pressing his **** against your back.
  25. In Sweden clothes are taxed 25%, food 12% and cultural things (like books, theater tickets etc.) are taxed 6%. If I remember correctly. It's a bit weird that culture seems to be more vital for one's survival than food, but there it is.
