Just to be on topic (and try to salvage the little dignity I may have left on this board): http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74590 Playstation 3 sells 165,000 units in the first two days and that's only in the UK! That's a lot. Stupid Brits.

Icewind Dale was the only IE game I ever finished (and partly enjoyed). I don't know why, but a game that plays out in snowy landscapes always gets a few plus points from me.

Ok, who else here is withholding hot siblings from us board monkeys?! FESS UP!

I'm also having to choose between those two right now. I am dreading the decision though. Why can't we all just get along?! :'( -
Yes, but is she hot?

I had a good day last night. I woke up early and noticed that I wasn't hung over from last nights party. Then I discovered a friend sleeping on the couch in my computer room. So I woke up my girlfriend and my friend and together we made our way to a waffle house that serves a cheap brunch. So we sat there and ate waffles and chatted until my friend had to leave for Stockholm and I had to leave for beachvolley practice. I played like a LIVING GOD!! (Well, almost..) Then I went home and got to play Test Drive Unlimited for a few hours. Awesome game so far. Unfortunately, I found out that my local University Internet provider doesn't allow online games anymore! It's insane! They charge us for a service (which is obligatory if you study at the University) and then they change the rules on the fly. Whenever, however they please. I've tried explaining to them that my job requires me to play games online, but somehow I don't think they took me seriously when I said that.. But it was a good day all in all.

Yes, I am a bit disappointed, to be totally honest. But I was kind of expecting to be disappointed, so it's not really big news to me. I never really liked any of the Infinity Engine drive games, but I absolutely loved Fallout (both of them). I was hoping we'd see more of the Fallout type of games coming from them and less IE type of games. Unfortunately, so far we've mostly seen what I'd clump into the IE genre from Obsidian: you call it story driven, I call it suffocating. I'm hoping they'll make a Gothic 3/Stalker/Oblivion type of game next.. (Go Feargus, go!)
-
Woah, I had no idea that the folks at Obsidian had even heard about Gothic! Good news

I just realized that I have nothing to look forward to in the immediate future. How depressing.

And we rebounded against Buffalo! Don't you try to take the NHL lead in our building, damn Sabres! GO LEAFS GO!

I've played some more today. Ran into a zombie infested laboratory and almost became a zombie myself. But I managed to find a scientist who made me some weird item that protects me from "zombie waves" (or something) so now I'm free to destroy a "Brain Scorcher", whatever the hell that is. I've been tampering with the arena a little too. It's very difficult because you go in without any of your real equipment (armour included) and you're given a weapon with very little ammo. Then it's up to you and another guy to duke it out in front of an audience. The problem is that the weapons you are given are not very accurate, and the guy you're facing always seems to be more accurate than you. You also die from just a few shots so you need to be careful. It's fun nevertheless. I have a problem with my main weapon. It's beginning to jam up quote often, but I haven't found anything even close to being able to replace it when it falls apart. And the manual says nothing about repairing weapons, so I guess that's out of the question. Too bad, because this is the first weapon I've had that I've been able to hit things with regularly. Every other weapon I have is barely able to hit a barn.. from the inside. Still having lots of fun though. Incredibly atmospheric game. -

I've only been playing since yesterday (unlike Spider, the bastard) but so far this game is awesome. It's not as free-form as I had thought it would be. I was under the impression that the zone was one gigantic place that you could get lost in forever if you wanted to, but it's not. It's actually divided into smaller zones that are all surrounded by a ridiculously low fence. That fence is supposed to be the thing that keeps you and the rest of the stalkers trapped inside the zone and fighting for survival like beasts. It's barely high enough to reach your waist! The zones have loading times between them, and most missions demand that you move around quite a lot between the zones, so it's not exactly a Gothic-like experience (no loading times whatsoever), but the zone parts are still big enough to give you that vital sense of exploration. Anyhow, once that disappointment settled, I noticed how difficult this game was. My first missions involved cleaning an old garage from bandits. I had a pistol, they were eight trained bandits with shotguns! I tried sneaking around, but it's almost impossible. Mostly because I suck at it and their AI really works. Once I figured out the best tactics though, I've been unstoppable (yes, with my puny pistol). And since I'm the explorer type too, I'm not very far in the story either. But I think I've found basically everything the game has tried to hide from me (which is a lot!). I love how the game throws out those little hints about hidden treasures sometimes when you search through bodies. I really recommend that you find each and everyone of them: they can be incredibly valuable! Right now, I have a powerful assault rifle with a 4x scope and a body armour that gives me a radar (that shows not only friends but enemies in my near vicinity, night vision and the ability to walk through electricity, fire and radiation almost without damage). I found a gigantic revolver that fires grenades instead of bullets. I even found a silent sniper rifle that's brutally powerful (although I still haven't found much ammo for it)! I also have a bunch of artifacts that only give me positives. One of them makes me able to sprint for several minutes at a time, even with my inventory full. Highly recommended! The graphics weren't that impressive at first, but they've really grown on me. They have a subtle Russian touch about them that's just so cool. And everything's so detailed! The physics are also impressive, but the thing that's the best is the lighting effects. They're probably the best I've ever seen in any game. I love the way the flashlights work! They really look like light, casting shadows all around, brightening up the spot they hit directly and generally looking awesome! Anyhow, I'm having a blast. Although I still have no clue exactly what I am supposed to do. I've read through all your descriptions of your games in the zone though, and it's so cool how dynamic this game seems to be. My experience (apart from the first few missions) sounds nothing like your guys experiences! I'm hoping it keeps up this way as I'm working my way closer to the centre of the zone. -
We let in four unanswered goals in the last period tonight. Bad luck. GO LEAFS GO!

My advice: play Call of Duty (or any other linear shooter) instead. -
What properties would you like to see games made from?
mkreku replied to Oerwinde's topic in Computer and Console
Hmm, so noone fell for my caRPG idea, eh? Well, at least I'm seeing some ideas that doesn't involve just taking the same tired game mechanics (kill, kill and .. oh, thats right: KILL!!!) in a slightly new setting. I don't think you'd ever have to kill anyone in a caRPG.. except if you base it on Death Race 2000 (best movie ever!). -
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2805040 Tootoo suspended FIVE games for that knock-out punch! That's two more than Janssen got for slamming Kaberle's head into the boards after that jump-hit of his. Yeah, got to love NHL referees and rules. Total bull****.

I went to work as usual this morning, tired as a dog. After eight hours of relatively unexciting job tasks, I went home and found out that my pre-order of STALKER did not lie and wait for me in my mail. It'd better arrive tomorrow or Webhallen is going to receive a very angry email!! Now I'm just idling time because I don't want to go to bed.

No, it probably just means that 200GB drives will be obsolete soon, as noone will buy less than 400GB drives.
-
2TB of storage. I really wish I could afford that. In one year you will be able to afford it. You just have to remember that this is Hitachi's 200GB platter version! They have the capability to do 250GB platters already and even bigger platters are on their way, so a year from now we'll probably be seeing 2TB drives in the stores. By then these babies will be affordable. Just like 500GB drives are now!

I have a friend who insists on calling me (probably) every time he's on the can doing.. uh.. number two. It's horrible. Still, it might be as fun as your Gameboy!

It's still good and I still think you can safely crank up your settings a bit further than default. -

You can easily check out how well your computer handles the game by using a third party program that keeps track of your FPS. I'd suggest FRAPS. If it's constantly above 60+ FPS, then you can safely increase your settings. I usually just make sure the FPS never drops below 30. If I remember correctly, the 7950GTX comes with 1GB of GDDR3 RAM. But since it's a dual GPU card, it uses 512MB per core so it looks like a 512MB card. There's only one 10k RPM SATA drive on the market: the Western Digital Raptor. -

I don't think there's such a thing as a 3950. But if it's a GTX (of anything) than it sure is way above the average GPU. And if it's a 7950GTX, then you have like.. the fifth most powerful GPU on the market, still. I'm sure you can afford to turn on FSAA. -
I enjoy exploring worlds, both inner and outer. It's fun to be able to play a murderer, a doctor, a soldier, a F1 driver or whatever I can get my hands on. I also like to feel like Christopher Columbus, taking his first strides on an entirely new continent. For some reason, I also enjoy taking a complete loser and leveling him up to become a divine creature. Well, not really, but that's how dumb most RPG's are. If I got to choose, I'd level a poor, weak nerd to become a rich, athletic professor.
