If there's player killing and we have two parties, I'm in. In whatever group Dark Raven is not in.

And thus, another anniversary for a heinous and tragic event is created.

Well, I happen to disagree with the American way of erasing every picture of the Twin Towers several months after 9/11 (as an example), just as I disagree with not bringing up the root of the problem when a horrific tragedy like this brings it to the public spotlight again. What better time to discuss this morbid phenomenon than when it's rearing its ugly head and shocking an entire world? -
Symmetric pairings of RAM usually allows for dual memory channels to be utilized, which is supposed to give a small increase in performance. You never really need 2.5 GB of RAM anyhow (unless you're doing some serious work in Photoshop..) so I'd suggest you go with: Slot 1: 512MB Slot 2: 512MB Slot 3: 512MB Slot 4: 512MB But to tell you the truth: I've never been able to detect that increase in performance using 3DMark or Super Pi. Edit: Neat! I found a page that explains (somewhat) the different RAM configurations and what they do: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/...b/cs-011965.htm

No. No they don't. We HAVE gun control. -
I watched Babel this weekend. Decent movie but seriously overrated. It was like I had seen it all before. You know 30 seconds into the movie that something bad is about to happen and then you just sit there and wait for it with an uneasy feeling in your stomach. And tying together several stories in one movie has been done to death already. I should have watched porn instead.

Just a heads up to one of our esteemed members of the board: Obscure 2 is on its way! Pretty decent survival horror with a co-op mode that rocks.

Does anyone remember the code wheel that you got in the Gold Box games? It was basically three round pieces of paper stapled together in the middle (so you could rotate them) and they were differently sized with the largest one at the back. You had to twist and turn those wheels according to some runes on the screen in order to get a keyword. You typed that keyword in and the copy protection would let you play. The problem was that the wheels were made of paper.. and you had to do that procedure every time you wanted to play the game. It didn't take long before the poor thing started falling apart and some parts became unreadable. I'm glad they stopped doing copy protection like that, but at the same time I kind of miss those things in my game boxes.

I had a good time in Sacred (or Sacred Plus, if I remember correctly), but I was playing it in co-op with my friends and we didn't bother much with the story. We were mostly exploring the vast open-ended land and fighting monsters to collect and trade loot among us. Also, there were lots and lots of tiny little side quests that you could do everywhere and they were surprisingly varied. But yeah, the main story was a drag.

Bethesda buys the Fallout IP from Interplay

You mean real life is open for abuse? If you practice something over and over, you're bound to get better.. I loved the system in Wasteland. It was learn-by-doing, but I never felt compelled to abuse it. -
As a comparison: I have never called in sick in my entire life.

STALKER is not a perfect game. It could have benefited from a world more like the one in Oblivion (huge area with almost no loading times instead of the different zones surrounded by barb wire fence) for example. But I would love to see more games with such a fantastic atmosphere that STALKER has. Easily the best part of STALKER and something I hope Fallout 3 will aim for. -
I had to share this with someone and I didn't know where to put it, so it ended up here. Anyhow, I recently bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 and I'm still only trying to learn the camera and all its features. One thing that's been really fascinating (and the reason why I bought this camera in the first place) is the huge built-in optical zoom. It works wonderfully and together with the optical image stabilizer, the pictures it produces have been very sharp and nice. Of course, I suck at photography so the images look like crap anyhow but at least I can't blame the camera. I experimented with the zoom and a feature called Extra Zoom the other day, and the two images below is a result of that. This picture is taken from a castle overlooking Uppsala. I kind of kept the focus on the church on the hill down below since that was a fair distance away.. This is what I was able to see when I zoomed in as far as my little camera (with Extra Zoom turned on) could reach! Nevermind the horrible image quality (I assume it uses digital zoom and then calculates the image back up to 3 MP or whatever..), but damn that zoom works well! Soon I'll try taking some more interesting shots too. I've been trying to take shots where the object you're trying to catch is in focus but the background is all blurry. Not been doing too good so far.. Photography is difficult.

It's a toss up between Dungeon Lords and Ultima IX: Ascension. Problem with both those games is that after heavy patching, I was able to enjoy both games a lot.. If we're talking games that I've been given too (Hey, it's part of my job!), I have to say.. Neverwinter Nights. I had such high hopes for that game and it turned out to be so boring, so ugly, so stupid and so repetitive. Even the story was insanely dumb. Of course, I'm only talking about the single player aspect as I never even tried multiplayer. Oh, and Morrowind has to get a mention too! I actually bought that game.. wow, I almost forgot about that. Anyhow, I loved Daggerfall and Morrowind turned out to be an ugly, boring and uninspired mess of a game. I can't choose. One of those four games. I think I can rule out Ultima IX, since it's become somewhat of a collector's item since then and I love my big Ultima box.

The difference between the 1600 and 1950 is not counted in MHz. It's counted in amounts of pixel shaders (36 for PRO, 12 for XT) and vertex shaders (8 for PRO, 5 for XT) and ROP's (only 4 for the XT..) and stuff. The 1950 also utilizes a 256-bit communication with the RAM, where the 1600 is restricted to a 128-bit bus. Even if the 1950 is clocked slightly lower than the 1600, you can safely assume that it's faster than the 1600. It should actually be plenty faster. By the way, the 1950 PRO is excellent value for your money. Good choice.

S.t.a.l.k.e.r.: Shadow of Chernobyl (impressions video inside)

I really shouldn't have played the game so thoroughly the first time. The second time feels a bit.. boring since I've already seen and done most of everything the game had to offer. The only things new are some purple treasures that I hadn't seen before. But I haven't even been able to find a new weapon! There can be like max 20 different weapons in this game. I wish they were modifiable at least. Some weapons can have a silencer, some can have a scope and some can have a grenade launcher mounted on them, but there's not nearly enough variety to make old weapons feel interesting again. And I might be stupid or something but I haven't found any unique equipment in the entire game! Sure, there's a Storming Obokan, some weapons that have had their ammunition changed and stuff like that. But there doesn't seem to be any named one-of-a-kind weapons or armours anywhere. Boring! Still a good game, but it really lacks replayability. -
Well, I was imagining Minnesota in the finals this year (great odds!) but they've already lost two to Anaheim. Depressing.

Strangely enough Hyundai and Sharp has been getting decent reviews. Sharp is a bit more expensive but has been getting great reviews for their Aquos (I think that was the name) series. http://www.sharpusa.com/products/AQUOS/ Hyundai is an odd brand. My girlfriend's former monitor was a Hyundai and it had a fantastic picture, but it was only a 17" CRT so I traded it for a 19" Samsung LCD. The weirdest thing about it is that there are TWO different brands of Hyundai and they both sell LCD TV's! One is the same brand that makes cars and the other used to be the same as the car, but they broke free of the big corporation and decided to concentrate on electronics. http://www.hyundaiq.com/ http://www.hyundai-world.com/ These three are worth checking out because their quality/price ratio is very high.

You should try Test Drive Unlimited.

Don't forget that Bok has an SLI setup. You'll need to pick up 2 of them. We'll see about that. (I've heard scary rumours..)

I bought Gothic 3 as a pre-order. I still haven't touched it either. With Piranha Bytes, it's always a good idea to give them six months to a full year after the game is released before playing the game. Sad but true.

New preview of Two Worlds (that someone mentioned earlier in the thread): http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/twoworlds/n...p;mode=previews It sounds an awful lot like Gothic (it's even made by a German developer, I think.. or Polish..) with an added twist of multiplayer! I'm looking forward to hearing more about this game. It's supposed to be released in May.

Bethesda buys the Fallout IP from Interplay
mkreku replied to aVENGER's topic in Computer and Console
The embarrassing thing is that I hadn't even thought of the modding possibilities until GreaseDgg pointed it out. Excellent point. It basically means that no matter how much Bethesda screws up the IP, the fans have no excuse to whine. They have the tools, they have the knowledge and they probably got the time (based on how much time they have to whine over the Internet) to fix up anything that Bethesda fails to provide. Woo, I'm almost looking forward to this now.
