  1. I love technology. And I'm still stuck with my X1950XTX, the last decent offering from ATI. I skipped the 2X00 fiasco, the 38X0 cards didn't have one for high-end usage.. but THIS.. THIS might be something I am interested in. And I really hate that I had such a horrible time with Nvidia's drivers the last time I had a Nvidia card (7800). I mean, I recognize the greatness of the 8800GT, but I just can't take the stress of such drivers again. I'm stuck with crappy ATI for now.
  2. Again, no new screens, BUT.. Eurogamer's usually quite good at looking past hype. Sounds interesting. Read the full story (preview) here: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?artic...4466&page=1
  3. I think Dreamfall might be the only game I've ever regretted I played to completion. That ending left me in a bad mood for days.
  4. Hi there, man of no computer building skillzzzz! One major drawback of getting a pre-built computer is that even though you know the rough specs of the machine, you have no control of what brands are used on the inside. But there is a neat compromise! On Komplett's Online Computer Builder, I experimented with building a system equal to or greater than the one Dell is selling you. I don't know what Dell wants for their machine but I saw the limit of
  5. I have no problems with the XM8 since it actually exists in the real world. Just don't start with the laz0r gunz and stuff.. that would really destroy the game for some of us.
  6. I don't know about you guys, but I never out-live my drives. I always upgrade to bigger (and faster) models before they have time to break. Life expectancy is rarely a problem.
  7. Hmm.. While you're all rejoicing, this news disturbs me slightly. Please, Obsidian, show some integrity and common sense and don't make this about today's world politics. I saw one of the locations you could visit was Saudi Arabia.. the tone of the game is influenced by Syriana.. It sounds like a great platform for more American war propaganda. Please don't let every bad guy be a "foreigner".. and don't let us kill generic Arabian "terrorists" by the hundreds without consequence. Show us you have a wider view of the world than what FOX News brainwashes their audience with.

Great. Two of my predictions fell in the last game of the first round. I'm too pissed to count right now but I'm assuming I got like.. 2/8 or something right. Too bad about the Caps. Now I'm not really interested in any other team. I hate when I don't care who wins the Stanley Cup!

Nice goal by Ovechkin again. Seems like he's finally lost his play-off jitters. Go Caps!
  11. I don't agree with this. I am sick and tired of games that are all about ME being THE CHOSEN ONE and I am the ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE THE WORLD, NO.. THE UNIVERSE!!1! And everyone else, no matter how powerful (at least when spoken of) are just marionettes that don't do **** unless I tell them to. One of my favourite games of all time is called Gothic. It starts with you being held prisoner in front of a king. He then sentences you to a life in prison and you're tossed down a cliff onto this prison island. When the game starts, you don't know who you are, you don't know what you did, you don't know what to do now.. you don't even know your own name! And the very first thing that happens when you get on your feet is that you get your ass beaten by a gang of thugs! That's the perfect start of an adventure for me! All I know is that I want to get off the island (prison) and find out what I did wrong.. and perhaps beat up the king while I'm at it. No saving ANYONE, nothing about being THE CHOSEN ONE, noone talking about SAVING THE WORLD. You're on your own and it's up to you to make the best of the situation. I love playing the role of the common dude up against insurmountable odds, but please keep the story more personal than "saving the world" for the billionth time.
  12. I still think the new Velociraptor is pretty underwhelming. I mean, 16 MB cache? Still 10k RPM? And why keep it at 300 GB max? And the move from 3'5" to 2'5" form factor..? That does NOT equal top performance! It just seems like they could have done so much more if only they hadn't decided to cater to two different potential consumer types at once. I predict my next HD purchase will be a SSD.
  13. I once lived in a dorm with a German guy. He was insane, I think. Every morning around 4m he got up and boiled sauerkraut without turning on the kitchen fans. So when everyone else got up at 7 or so the entire dorm smelled like a mixture of sulphur and poop. IT WAS HORRIBLE. Not only that, he also went to bed at like 7 in the evening and complained with little notes if ANYONE moved a muscle after that. You can imagine how the place looked whenever we had a dorm party. Little notes everywhere.. Oh, and he ate lots and lots of candy and his teeth had probably rotted in his mouth. It looked disgusting.
  14. Why do I even do stupid tests like this?
  15. Western Digital has finally upgraded the ageing Raptor drives, by introducing the new Velociraptor drive. They also won an award for cheesiest name. Anyhow, the beast is available up to 300 GB and is almost as fast as a solid state disk... Almost. Read Tom's Hardware take on it: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/HDD-SA...aptor,1914.html --- Personally, I think the age of mechanical drives is gone. Wait six months and we'll start seeing the SSD's go down in price and increase in capacity. And to top it all off, I'd imagine they've only begun scratching the SSD performance surface yet.. and they're already in the lead!

Whoops, Ovechkin scores his second of the night! They're not containing the beast properly tonite :D
  17. I've always loved voxels for some reason (in games like Delta Force, Delta Force 2, Outcast, Comanche). I think it is because they give the graphics a certain rugged style that's difficult to accomplish using polygons. I've always secretly hoped that voxels would some day make a comeback Not so far-fetched little dream now!

I thought this was a dead sure award for Nabokov this year..? Did I misunderstand something?
  19. Once you get over the initial difficulty threshold of STALKER, it becomes easy. Until you hit the last levels that is..
  20. One of the games I'm looking forward to is Dead Island by Techland (of Chrome, Xpend Rally etc. fame). I read a pretty good interview recently that I thought I'd share. I'm pretty sure it'll increase the (so far non-existent) hype surrounding this game on these boards: http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2008/04/1...zombie-killing/
  21. More Gothic 3.. My future adversaries all lined up! And yes, I have 1 HP left.. I fell off a cliff. I finally decided to try to free Vengard, the capital. The orcs overwhelmed me so I took refuge on the top floor of a small house and tried the Spartan tactics of crowding the doorway. It worked! (aka abusing bad AI..) Three commanders down, two to go.. and the sun is setting. That's the narrow bridge to the King's castle in the background. Found a barricaded paladin on top of this tower overlooking the castle. Night has set, but all the commanders are dead.
  22. I don't know why, but this picture made me really want to go back to the zone: It's just the main menu Weird. Of course, it's GSC making it so it'll be here in 2012 and not feature half of what was once promised.
  23. But it's supposed to be tacky!!
  24. I don't mind reloading when I've gotten my ass handed to me by some brutally difficult enemy (I'm looking at you, Gothic 3..). Then I deserve the punishment of having to sit through menu screens and loading times. But when it's almost introduced as a gameplay element it becomes tedious and idiotic. Like, for example, in Neverwinter Nights 2 where I found myself trying every possible outcome in every conversation simply by saving just before and reloading over and over until I got the desired meta-gaming effect (usually some influence or another). That's game-breakingly dull, but that was the only way for me to get ANY satisfaction out of my party members. Since the game wasn't clear enough what responses gave which results, I had to do it by trial and error.. or just ignore it, let them hover around 0 influence for the entire game and only get the drawbacks of having to drag around those worthless pieces of pixels. Strangely enough I never had to reload because of combat in that game. Everyone auto-ressed themselves and auto-healed and auto-wiped their butts or whatever. It was almost like Dungeon Siege 2.
