  1. Ok. Not as good as I was hoping for Push-ups: 46 Sit-ups: 46 1.5 miles: 12.13 This GPS clock is really cool. It even plotted my route: All I had to do was slide my mouse pointer along the blue line and it showed me where I passed 2.41 km (1.5 miles). I could also have imported the route into Google Earth, but I felt that was a bit overkill..
  2. I'm actually going to do this. I'm at work right now, but I borrowed one of those GPS clocks yesterday so I was planning to run after work anyhow. I'll try running those 1.5 miles to see how it goes.
  3. Hmm, that's a weird way of putting it. ATI supports OpenCL, which stands for Open Computing Language. This means that the GPU is supposed to be able to run code other than graphics, but that code has to be purposely built for the GPU. As far as I know, PhysX is not compatible. That's not to say that it won't be further on. But right now I think Havok is closer to the OpenCL camp than PhysX is.
  4. No, PhysX does not work on ATI cards. Although PhysX acceleration using the GPU is really only possible when you have an SLI solution where one card is enough to run the graphics and you have another GPU to spare. Most games tend to be so resource intensive that offloading yet another task to them (in this case physics calculations) tends to drag down the graphic performance. Or so I've read.
  5. I run my 4870 on the stock cooler and it's practically silent (except for like 30 seconds after I start up my computer and the video card does a "test drive" of the fan at max speed). I use an Antec P180 case though. I will probably hold out for a month or so before buying the 5870. I checked the retailers here in Sweden and it's exactly TWICE the price of one 4890. I'll wait for it to come down from these "first batch" prices. --- Edit: I checked again and it seems I have no choice anyhow. They're all sold out! All of them! Sick.
  6. I blame those damn alarmists and their global warming mantra! If they hadn't mentioned it, none of this would have happened! /end taks rant
  7. Anandtech review: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3643 Hard OCP review: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/09/22/...deo_card_review Hexus review: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=20289&page=1 Hot Hardware review: http://hothardware.com/Articles/AMD-ATI-Ra...bly-Number-One/ Tech Report review: http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/17618 General conclusion: It's the fastest single GPU solution available. But it's about the same performance as a GTX 295, so it's no revolution. Still, it'll be cheaper, cooler and less power hungry than the GTX 295, so for me it's an insta-buy. It also supports DirectX 11.. for no reason whatsoever.
  8. Sleep was THE spell in Pool of Radiance! Until you got fireball, of course.
  9. I use a DiNovo Edge and a Microsoft Arc mouse when I'm gaming from my sofa in front of my 42" 1080p TV. I have no idea why anyone would prefer a controller instead of mouse/keyboard, since that's practically the only thing that differs.
  10. The sad part is that I think they were trying to make the driving in GTA4 realistic. Edit: Emphasized the wrong word.
  11. I don't know why you guys get so worked up over this. I've seen enough of the game to know that it's what I want and what I'll enjoy. I don't even watch any new trailers or read any new previews. My mind is already made up; any more and it would probably be more of a spoiler than anything.
  12. I didn't use alchemy either. It felt needlessly convoluted and user unfriendly. Also, I usually don't bother with potions in any game I play. Or spells. I prefer more tangible stuff like armour and swords and bows.
  13. I re-installed GTA4 recently to try to fool around some more in that fantastic world of Liberty City. But I am already feeling what I remember most clearly about the game since I completed it this spring: they've somehow managed to suck most of the fun out of it by making it seemingly more realistic. Sure, the cars behave as Bambi on ice (for realism!), but does that make them any more fun to drive? Not really. Sure, your character now needs a few seconds to go from walking to running/get in or out of a car/change direction (effectively working as built-in controller lag), but does it make the game more fun? Not really. The game world really is fantastic though. I can actually spend hours just walking around, listening to the city life, marvel at the level of detail in everything around me and perhaps kill a "flying rat" or two. It's such a shame that they didn't bother to fill it with more.. game.
  14. I've always assumed that male mages were wearing those dresses because they needed complete and full mobility of their entire bodies to cast spells, including their balls.
  15. Right! I bought this like a year ago. I should probably get around to playing it soon. But why does it feel like playing it will be like a chore before I've even installed it? I blame it on the snore-fest Jade Empire!
  16. What he said. Porsche Unleashed in C
  17. Yeah, that's how it is. Cyberpower demands a bit of knowledge from their buyers: "We will mention in this section, however, that the consumer must take care when ordering their system to ensure a balanced solution. Custom PC suppliers often restrict the range of components that can be ordered with a specific system, to provide a minimum baseline of performance. For better or worse, CyberPower does not restrict choice at all, so an uninformed buyer could purchase a $1500 "gaming" system with a GeForce 7400 GS or HD 4350." It's easy to build an expensive system and fail on ONE major component, making your expensive rig practically useless. But Anandtech also writes this: "For the midrange, however, we're quite pleased with what CyberPower has to offer: good warranty and tech support coverage, good components, and a lot of system choices, all at a very competitive price. We were impressed with the value of their Core i7 system, and they should definitely remain on the short list of suppliers for low- to midrange gaming systems." Source: http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=3524&p=9 As long as Arkan knows what he wants, there should be no problem with Cyberpower PC.
  18. Yeah, that's top-of-the-line so it's a bit costly. I would suggest this: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Core_2_Duo_Configurator/ When you click on the link, it will take you to a Core 2 Duo system for $539. Click on the "Customize" button and choose the items you like. I chose: Coolermaster Centurion 590 case (because the default is butt ugly) 750W Corsair power supply 4 GB PC6400 memory NVIDIA GeForce GTX275 896MB Video Card Street Fighter IV (free game because of the Nvidia card ) Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit (with free Windows 7 upgrade) ..and left everything else as it was, and I ended up at $929. More performance AND cheaper than the Dell above. Just a suggestion though. I have never personally shopped from Cyberpower PC. I've just read reviews about their systems and they've been good.
  19. Three things: 1) The SLI solution: you are combining two weak cards, thus getting the worst of two worlds. Together they are not stronger than a powerful card, but they cost as much. Some games won't support SLI so you'll be forced to run on one from time to time, which will accentuate that they're low range. I'd go for one GTX 275 or an ATI 4890. 2. The amount of RAM: How do you even get 6 GB? Three 2 GB sticks? Anyhow, 4 GB is enough. If you'll ever want to upgrade the amount of RAM, this is the easiest part to do after purchase. 3) The prize: for that price you really ought to be getting a better build. Or is a screen included that you forgot to mention? Worth mentioning: I'd personally pay the extra for a 1 TB hard drive. Not because of the storage, but because they also offer better performance.

Kessel to Leafs: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=291601 I do like this move, but.. giving up several first round draft picks again? Isn't this how we ended up in this miserable situation in the first place? Still, getting a goal scorer was sorely needed. If only we had a captain too..
  21. I actually enjoyed Far Cry 2 and played it through to the end. But the respawning almost killed it for me. I played through the first map and noticed it was tiresome, even though the game was a lot of fun. But then the second map opened up, and I just couldn't take it anymore. So I let it lie for a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden it was fun again. I loved trying to find all those diamonds. I never did, but I got a lot of them. Enough to buy every single weapon in the game at least..
  22. I would suggest Paint.NET since that's what I use myself. It's also very versatile, as it's quite bare-bones from the beginning and it's easy to install additional modules as the need arises. Otherwise I'm sure someone will suggest GIMP.
  23. Yeah, they are. Brian Fargo even said that it wouldn't be even close to the Bard's Tale game, but a lot more true to the original. But a collaboration would be nice! Especially seeing as InXile are busy working on slighty.. hrmm, let's say slightly less ambitious projects at the moment. (although if you look at the three topmost tiny pictures, they do show a wasteland.. yay!)
  24. Wasteland 2? ... One can't even begin to hope.
  25. Like me, then! I got to some autopsy thingie and one where I was supposed to light (?) some magic beacons in a forest/swamp filled with dead people and I just.. gave up. I had no interest in seeing more, no story to pull me along and I had already gotten laid a handful of times. For the record, I actually enjoyed getting those nudie pics. I've never seen that in a game before.
