New Year Resolutions
My new years resolution is to try and stick to at least one previous new years resolution

What you did today
Went to a family gathering but didn't end up staying for the new year count down, me and mum were pretty much faking our enthusiasm so I called it a night and drove her home. It'll be a year since dad died on the 7th and I'll just be glad when this whole winter nonsense is over so I can start feeling alive again On the bright side I've got plenty of Baileys which I'm eagerly supping like a kitten

What you did today
Ah. Who wants a pristine goddamn electric guitar anyway, mate? I know, I know...it's just that she's years away from looking all beaten up and cool, right now it just looks like a guitar with a big dent in the top. I get pretty OCD about keeping things in good condition until they reach that "old faithful" stage where you just keep running whatever it is into the ground

What you did today
Managed to have a nice xmas dinner at my aunt's farm but back home my mum knocked over a fan and put an inch long dent in my Gibson...along with some **** running his key down my new car I'm not feeling all that festive this week

Completed Dawnguard's MQ last night, the Forgotten Vale was a fantastic location which made up for the ball dragging Soul Cairn and the final confrontation was decent. My only real complaint is the idiotic writing, I went the Dawnguard route as I just couldn't rationalise a reason to become a Vampire Lord, apparently the vampire route is more fun but I suspect the major plot points are identically dumb. The new weapons, locations and quests are actually great but I wish the writing was at least on par with the base game, my expectations for Dragonborn have been lowered

What are you reading?
Catching up with Rincewind in Interesting Times, it's a comfortable read like most of Pratchett's work but my current mood is making most kinds of entertainment a chore. I think I'm making a mistake in not reading the second book of The Aspect Emperor series, I've been trying to ignore it until the third book is released so I can properly binge but the temptation is making it hard to read less ball gripping stuff

What you did today
Feeling pretty crappy today, major case of winter rot setting in and I'm finding it hard to be enthusiastic. Finding a load of key scratches down both sides of my car hasn't helped, only had the damn thing a week

What are you reading?
Finished reading God Emperor of Dune yesterday, it's taken me a few weeks as the story just didn't grip me. Getting inside the mind of a 3000 year old worm god is pretty interesting but that's all the story offered me, I was missing the intrigue and factions of the previous books. Just as a curiosity I grabbed that concept book S as it's half price at the moment, it's a very cool physical item, dunno if the "story" will be any good but I couldn't resist the novelty

What are you playing now?
Played a few hours of Brothers and enjoyed it, it's the sort of effortless game Molyneux wishes he could still make. The controls are simple but your brain can easily get twisted up controlling both brothers at the same time, puzzles are also simple but satisfying and the world is full of charm with a tinge of darkness

What are you playing now?
On the subject of choking back vomit to enjoy Skyrim, I just did the Soul Cairn in the Dawnguard DLC and maybe my crappy mood didn't help but gaaaawd...whoever wrote this bit is really keen on doing that thing where your only dialogue option is to parrot back what the NPC just said, it's like that Threedog screenshot over and over. Another annoyance is how I totally didn't need to go find a soul gem which contained my very own soul, I got back to Skyrim and my stats were normal, a miscellaneous objective reminded me

Bethesda did a pretty good job fixing the bugs people reported (though the Dragonborn patch broke lipsync) but I'd still install the unofficial patches which fix most of the smaller bugs that start to annoy you after several hundred hours I find that a bit of wilful ignorance goes a long way in enjoying Skyrim but you can pick it to pieces if you want. Useless perks, linear dungeons, plot railroading and a lack of truly interesting antagonists (Morrowind...) are my biggest issues but I can still sink an unhealthy amount of time into it without getting bored, they did a good job turning everything into a goal, proper OCD fodder. I'm currently playing through Dawnguard and given my playstyle it'll take me ages to complete, they added way more than I expected and it's got Bethesda's first attempt at a New Vegas style companion...the writing is ham fisted to hell but it's still nice to have more talkative company while exploring. Something I'm finding especially cool is how it allows you to do the Blackreach portion of the Alduin quest ahead of time, breaks up the monotony on a fourth playthrough.
