  1. True, but more DLC is pretty much a given, considering they made a new menu for it and the comments in the end titles. I think that after learning from Invisible War's mistakes, implementing a new cut-rate main character is the last thing they'll do. Sure, they have Ben Saxon set up as a credible leading man, but I doubt they're done with Jensen just yet.
  2. Missing Link allowed the player to experiment with a "novice" Jensen for a second time, now with more experience of the game and its mechanics. It was fun once (or thrice, including the "Factory Zero" way), but it would be gimmicky if done again. OTOH, also endearing in an old-school Curse of the Azure Bonds and Secret of the Silver Blades kind of way.
  3. Yes, even if I keep the original always installed on every machine I own, I was referring to the new version.
  4. Did Deus Ex on the "highest" difficulty. Which called for a bit more preparation for the boss fights, but managed to get "pacifist" and "foxiest of hounds" on the same go, so quite happy. Probably going to be my first platinum trophy. Too bad it's 2 am.
  5. Not a big fan of open world games in general, thought the gameplay itself had regressed in multiple ways from GTA VC and, well, I need at least some semblance of an interesting story to carry me - as I can play pool and drink beer with friends in real life, don't need a game to shove that down my throat. OTOH, I quite liked LA Noire, which leads me to my original argument. GTA is overrated and hyped - probably not bad, but not deserving all the fawning wankery it gets.
  6. What a narrow minded chap you are! Oh, if you only new...
  7. Maybe our cops are better than yours. I know a lot of them and they do score very high regularly in "citizen trust" polls. Hard to say about the stealth route, I think it could be done "commando" style as well, but in general I find the "stealth combat" approach to be most rewarding in this game, and it applies here as well. There's some nice reactivity in the Evil Monologues when you manage to stay hidden, my personal favourite being a spec ops leader warning his troops that the lack of casualties isn't a sign of weakness but of even more superior skill. :D
  8. I personally think GTA is the most overrated franchise of all time (yes, even more than CoD), and Vice City is the only one I've played of them that didn't feel like work.
  9. I speedread that "back" as "butt" at first, and had my eyebrows jump quite a bit. Sorry to hear about your goggie Guard Dog, but also happy to hear the things did work out quite well for her in the end. Signed my new employment yesterday and told the people at the uni I'll be leaving a month early. They all seem extremely happy, probably just to see me go. Well, I'm happy to leave, too. :D
  10. But, Stealing Is Wrong and an ex-cop just Would Not Do That! Yes, this game makes me want to actually RP. Still think it was a lousy comparison, the DLC and the police station are nothing alike.
  11. "It should have been in the main game" vs. "It feels tacked on". There's no winning that argument. I haven't seen anyone say the dialogues are themselves better, there's a lot more reactivity in them. Certainly I missed a conversation battle in this one, but it would have been... tacked on. p.s. Like the police station infiltration? I usually just walk in, grab what I need and walk out. Doesn't feel the same at all!
  12. Nope, they are green and gold.
  13. Mmh, I think the short dev cycle of DA2 was a result of wanting to spread their releases out a bit more, DAO and ME2 went essentially head to head. Looking at the extra dev time ME3 has gotten (partially as a result of SWTOR, admittedly), there's signs that they've learned their lesson. Remains to be seen to what extent.
  14. That it's standalone and doesn't appear to have an end-state save like the main game does.
  15. But then I would be out of a job!
  16. That's actually not far from my current feelings :D Another nice touch, you can steal the final bosses gun during the storyline - in which case he'll be using a normal machine pistol in the ending. So, some reviews to the contrary, there actually is a new weapon in the game, even if it's just a special version of a normal one (and not just cosmetically different).
  17. Maybe part of it, but I certainly know there's a good part of the fanbase that enjoys (or at least enjoyed) Obsidian titles, since they are (were?) pretty much the only other developer doing BioWare-style RPGs (very story-driven, emphasis on dialogue and character relationships, etc.). In the US Bethesda does very different stuff, and in Europe p. much every developer does more niche stuff with slightly different styles (I doubt a BioWare fan would be interested in playing, say, Drakensang). I think this absurd Obsidian vs. Bioware setup exists only in the minds of a select few members of this forum. I'm sure it would be another interesting topic for analysis, but I couldn't care less any longer.
  18. I prefer Alpha Protocol over it, but that's due to a subjective preference for that kind of game. New Vegas is probably a better game, objectively.
  19. And did you catch the remark from Quinn in the end about the raging "invisible war" which unfortunately was "profoundly misconcepted"? Yes, among quite a few other ones. :D Btw. That character is absolute genius on all levels, including VO and art design.
  20. Contemplating starting another playthrough of dxhr. Got a lot more nuances out of it on a second playthrough (and through multiple playthroughs of Missing Link), could really enjoy it now.
  21. I have now completed the DLC three times, and must upgrade my previous assessment from "very good" to "awesome". It might cost 1/4 of a new game, but imo that's exactly what it delivers - and it a quarter of a really, really good game. There's a lot more reactivity in dialogue and environmental chatter and the level design is sublime. It's obvious that they learned a lot from DXHR and are now putting that knowledge to work.
  22. There's rigid categories and then there's the inability to tell first and third person apart. Sure, call it a "shooter" or whatever (and you'd still be mistaken), but FPS, First Person Shooter in the vein of Wolf3d, Doom and CoD it is not.
  23. Who can dispute a confirmation of that kind.
  24. Please forgive me, but this made me laugh out loud. It sucks, I know. I get you, but it's still funny. Hey, I live in town so it's a 10 minute drive up to class for me. Not a problem on my end, but I know several people in the class that commute from out of town that were pretty angry when they heard that the prof was out of town all week. Lots of grumbling about waste of gas on the way out of class. One of the guys I knew at uni lived on the Isle of Wight. Had to get up about 3 hours early to catch the hovercraft across to the mainland, before he could get to the University. He didn't actually get digs closer until around the last year ... And even then, he only did it because the hovercraft was full of eels.
  25. The table's definitely set for one. Of course, this is the length of a COD SP campaign, so they should just tack on a copy/paste multiplayer and sell it for millions, I guess.
