Ok must be confused. Thought the issue was that Russia supplied the missiles and is to blame. Separatists shooting it down seems extremely likely.

Ongoing discussion of Ukraine
Well the point was that wasn't the alternative, with regards to how they got a hold of the weapons, which may or may not be Russia. How the weapons were sourced is relevant in all this, after all, what with talk of covertly supplied weaponry and Russian responsibility for how they were used (amusing concept of responsibility if carried out fully, too).

Isn't the alternative that the launcher was stolen by the separatists ? Not that that is the case, but is more likely than some looney stuff.

Could also have been blasted by ZU-23s

Someone should make a movie about that. Kind of like Apocalypse Now meets Stomp the Yard.

Two more Su-25s downed today. Ukrainian military needs to fly more SEAD missions.

Israel vs Palestine
IDF should not have bothered with airstrikes at all and just rely on ground forces to get the work done. 500 lb bombs aimed well still take out large areas and kill bystanders. Interesting line of thought. Heh, reminds me of the jackal that said every Israeli is a target due to their mandatory military service (I guess the Orthodox hawks are safe in that scheme).

Pilots couldn't see the missiles coming. If Sa-11 or S-300 was used, the missile takes up to 40 seconds to cover a 10 000 meters distance, it's too fast. Black box is just gonna confirm taking damage at a certain point. It's not gonna tell where the missile came from or any such data that could be used as a smoking gun. EDIT - this situation with the Boeing, the whole Ukraine conflict is so hard to put together even approximately correct from all the propaganda shouting from both sides. True, but was hypothesizing on what the black box could yield that we don't know, never know until one checks and all. But yes, most likely the black box won't be all that helpful even if those evil <insert party's name here> interfere with it anyway.

Marines test new beach assault vehicle
Well, was more to your point about military vehicles not being designed to be shot at with heavy weaponry being stupid, some things have expected roles. In this case, even though it's named assault, the current vehicles it's to replace don't exactly look extremely rugged - though testing states they can handle everything up to 30mm (I guess if they're firing tank guns at it, someone's not doing security well) - so maybe the final product will be rated up to that as well.

Marines test new beach assault vehicle
Not necessarily - they use trucks to transport goods that aren't designed to take AT rounds, for example, so not all military gear has to be set up to run through a battle zone. Not too sure what kind of glass can resist an RPG or 30mm cannon fire though - existing landing craft have that vulnerability, at least from a report from 1991 on them. And other forces will have to suppress defenders in these kinds of landings.

Black boxes will just confirm that the plane suffered damage consistent with that of a missile attack, at best. Which is pretty much where we are now. Maybe some voice recordings if the pilots pointed out "Hey, a missile coming from the right!" or something like that.

Well it's either the incompetence of him needing to clarify that when he should be aware he's being recorded most likely, if it's real, or the incompetence of the forgery if it's not. Either way is amusing.

Marines test new beach assault vehicle
Hard to not expose the pilot to fire in any lander, though, in the currently used LCACs it's pretty exposed too. But from searching around this does seem to be a demonstration of the propulsion system and has another round of development to go through.
