Dunno, the zombie apocalypse genre always shifts between horror and sci fi purely as a categorization mostly based on what the zombies originate from. The movie itself is really pure horror but then, so is Alien.

Yes. No, never liked it. A nice thriller, but no lasting impact. You misunderstood, the actual article with the no. 1- no. 5 titles has been linked at the top. Avatar is no.4. Btw in any top 10 list the actual placing is a bit forced. In my eyes only no.1 and perhaps no.2 are mindblowing, the rest are genre flicks.

Elaborate? Whazza wrong with K-Pax appart from being a bit soppy? Would you believe that there are actually people that believe that?

Finally, a european. Come on Hurlie, don't be so stubborn. Judge the act itself, not the intention you presume to know, even if you're probably 99.99% right. The act: wearing the US flag on a Mexican holiday. *shrugs* So what?

1. There are other viable solutions, I was merely going with the least drastic one. 2. Common sense and knowledge are not all encompassing. You completely disregard beliefs and convictions, which irrational or not still drive human beings. 3. I quite clearly stated that some were duped, but others knew exactly what was going on, and had nothing against it - even if they didn't want to participate in it themselves. What is so unbelievable about that? 4. Hate is not something to be proud of, but I respect anyone making a stand for their beliefs - even if I oppose them. I do not recall making a case for mass murder but feel free to show me if I did. I don't see hate as by necessity leading into total destruction of the object of hate. Rather I'd like to see the threat of those objects removed - which doesn't even have to be through violent means. Feel free to drop the personal attacks and condescending attitude. You don't have to like me but since I'm not disrespecting you - they're quite pointless.

Isn't that an important tenant of fascism? Its an important tenant of political thought since the dawn of man, so I don't see where you're going with this.

Alright. Explain please why wearing the US flag on cinco de mayo is agitation? Would wearing a Serbian flag be agitation? I assume not. Then the problem is with something the US flag represents? If you're celebrating being Mexican, how is it offensive that someone needs to point out that they're American? You could perhaps call it unnecessary, but certainly not offensive. The issues are unrelated. Is the presumed message: "we're more American than you?"? But how is that offensive when you're expressing pride at being Mexican? The celebration is over a Mexican/French conflict, the US doesn't even figure into the equation. What's in your opinion the agitation here? @Amentep: 1. I agree. Regardless, US flags in the US can't or shouldn't be deemed disruptive. 2. You're probably right but you know full well that that's a moot point.

So you say they were making a statement. Even if they were, was it not fully within the bounds of the law, and apart from the bandannas within the rules of the school? If it was, there is no justification whatsoever for this kind of treatment. Secondly, you cannot forbid people from wearing the flag of their country wherever and whenever they wish within its borders. To have to resort to doing so is deeply wrong at the very least from a moral perspective. I don't have a single t-shirt with my country's flag on it, but I'd find it deeply offensive for someone to prohibit my wearing such clothes. Besides I feel that a clear hierarchy benefits overall stability. When I was living as a part of a white minority in a predominantly black country, I knew my place - what I could, what I couldn't do and what I mustn't do. The fact of the matter is this: the native population takes precedence. Its perfectly natural, regardless of the formal equality under the law. What is not natural is hispanic kids being offended at the flag of the country they're living in and american kids being chastised for wearing it. That sort of entitlement will breed resentment in both camps and the end result is not a democratic utopia but a society filled to the brim with mutual hatred. On the other hand, Botswana (where I lived) suffers from no racial issues precisely because there's an unwritten law on how everyone must behave. Overall, I blame the liberals.
-
Yeah they were probably redneck bastards who forgot their KKK hoods at home. Burn them on a stake! Show the world the righteous, lawful good fury of the liberal lynch mob! Seriously Walsingham, you're not showing a very different type of reasoning by judging people on what you think was in their heads.

I know one thing for certain. The soviet union, in its brief existence ignored the existing religious desires and deep set nationalistic feelings of the people. So it was dismantled. Political correctness and modern "liberalism" are exactly the same, bluntly favoring one group of people/ideas over others, most often various types of minorities against the existing feelings of the majority. Also, it has practically been proven in social theory that repressed feelings have a way of coming back and exploding in everyone's face. Case study: post WWI germany and the rise of Nazism. Thus, it would be no surprise if indeed some sort of revolt against this policy erupted in the US.
-
Jesus, I thought that sort of stuff only passed by our spineless government (we had Albanians taking down the state flag from a post office in a southern province and putting up an Albanian one). I'll never understand where this political correctness nonsense comes from.

@Wrath of Dagon: reading the replies of people in this thread I can see why you're distressed. @Gromnir: they were being jerks for wearing their flag on another minority's holiday? I'm sorry that doesn't compute. Perhaps in the US such things are related, from where I am standing there is no connection whatsoever. As I understand it there are plenty of US flags on ST Patrick's day, and the Irish don't complain. One thing I can tell you for sure is that the way it has been handled is going to inspire racial hatred, not solve it. If the kids that were wearing flags didn't like latinos before, now they're going to hate them.
-
To be punished for wearing the flag of your country, in your country, is disgusting. Its an important symbol and if it can stand in the white house, why the hell can't it be on a kids t shirt? I see no logic for a minority to be offended by the flag of the country they're residing it. If it offends them, why are they in the US in the first place? Where does it say in the description of their holiday that a US flag Must Not Be Worn? To even insist on something like that is unacceptable. Its not like they were wearing American flags and strolling through Hiroshima. Ridiculous. Thank god this sort of bull**** would never pass in these parts.

In an ideal world where every listener is at least as educated as every speaker, hate speech would be pointless, and therefore there would be no need for it to be banned. This is far from being an ideal world, though, and we all recognize the dangers of demagoguery and populism. I'm not arguing for absolute, 100% pure unadulterated free speech. The problem lies, as always, in the proverbial line on the sand. Incorrect, total education does not equate to a lack of hate. Hate is just another perfectly human emotion and is existent regardless of your level of education. The Nazi regime included many extremely educated individuals, and the executors of Nazi policies (down to the common soldier) were not "dumb masses" but individuals of which some might have been duped, but many knew exactly what they were doing and why. To presume them stupid is to fall into the trap of liberalism where everything is blamed on demagoguery and populism, a shallow view at which lies an elitist core that presumes that everyone (but the liberal) is a dumb sheep. Also it conveniently shifts the responsibility from the individual (where it belongs) to a symbol (Hitler in this case) thus allowing many to escape their deserved punishment. According to some university literature I have on psychology, hate is created when we perceive (a subjective moment) that another group/individual is doing us wrong without provocation from us(a loose translation). As any subjective evaluation it can be quite correct, or quite wrong. There are quite a few individuals and some groups I hate, for reasons that I can support with ample evidence and well grounded reasoning. That is something that no amount of education will change, as it doesnt stem from ignorance but from my (subjective) belief that they have wronged me or my beliefs personally, without any provocation whatsoever from me.

is difficult to identify sarcasm in some message board posts. HA! Good Fun! All I'm saying is that a certain religion can and is regularly ridiculed pretty much without consequences while another reacts violently at the slightest provocation. I'm not actually contesting their violence, I'm contesting the spinelessness with which western politicians and media approach the issue as though it will correct itself on its own. A state's purpose is to protect its citizens first and foremost, not suck up to an aggressive and bullying policy of another religion/state/civilization. Especially in the absurd situation where that state (pick any major EU country) has superior military and economic might and has no need or obligation whatsoever to even consider the view of, in this case - the Islamic world. Eg: If we want to make cartoons of your prophet, we will because its allowed in our society. You can protest of course, but if you threaten death on one of our citizens who acted within the bounds of law, that is tantamount to a declaration of war. Equivalent measures have to be taken, and if the EU grew a spine and reacted properly these sort of things would not happen again. Which was the point all along. If they, say, stopped all trade with the appropriate countries for an indefinite time, as a punishment for the destruction of valuable Danish goods we'd have a much clearer situation.

Do yourself a favor and vote for BNP

Good thing there aren't a million cartoons that put Christ in a comical light, cos we'd have ourselves a real bloodbath then. Hmm.

The problem is there are always three Taliban.

We do? No, but that still wont keep you from feeling ripped off. Its undeniable that the average playing time for games keeps shrinking while prices remain the same or go up. A good deal, that is not. Also I don't want to pay for an extended cut scene in which you have to mash a few buttons every now and then to keep going, which is what almost every game boils down to nowadays. Call me spoiled, but I want to game. Which is why I'm playing Unreal Tournament and Alpha Centauri. Now a modest ten years after their release.

WoW... a whole 1 day of gameplay for 50 bucks... Don't worry, someone will come to convince you that its a good deal.

There were 256 movies classed as "Westerns" since 2000 on IMDB. But it includes a HUGE amount of direct to DVD fare, and horror-westerns, softcore-westerns, foreign westerns and modern westerns (rodeos, pickup trucks etc). I tried to stick with films I'd heard of and that had some semblance of a national release and that were also period pieces without majorly overt supernatural elements. There are only two films on that list that I know could be considered comedies - Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights (although arguably Legend of Zorro was pretty tongue in cheek). The rest of the films are fairly serious to my knowledge (I haven't seen them all). At any rate, I'm not entirely sure what it has to do with games where the genres really haven't ebbed and flowed with movies. I think the big problem with Western games is that there haven't been very many good ones in recent years (even still, I'm pretty sure the original Red Dead Revolver did fairly well, and I've heard Gun did too). Westerns used to be made in spades in movies, its true, but most of them were "B" movies (if you look at the prestige pics of the period, westerns aren't as big). The loss of double features and drive-ins, the changing market and the economy all led to Westerns being made at a slower pace (and the popularity of the genre in Italy in the 60s and 70s meant US studios didn't need to make them, just buy the rights, dub and release). The Majors still did make westerns but the Heaven's Gate fiasco slowed those productions down as well (and yet you still got the occasional western like Silverado before another boom period came in the 90s). Is the genre as big as it used to be? No. But it still plugs along (supernatural-western Jonah Hex looks to be the next big release in June) Of course I'm a bit biased, I'd love a Deadlands video game. 256 movies isn't much if its true US production of feature films is around 2000 titles per year. That would make it 1% of all movies made in that decade. Perhaps a better evaluation would be that the Western is no longer a particularly influential or innovative movie genre (somewhat like sci fi, unfortunately) if you look at the number of influential/great directors working on it. -

Western is practically a dead (movie) genre, which the list above shows. A few decades ago they were made in spades, now its down to what, two a year? Half of which are parodies. Its hardly surprising that so few wild west themed games are made. -
