Blade Runner FTW! You can also ask Oner what he says in the noodle bar scene.

Since I wasn't ready to invest the 100+ euros needed to really "play" WoW, after two weeks of constant playing I've decided that enough is enough - and canceled my subscription/uninstalled it. In short, its a very addictive and expansive game. There's always something to do and some of the stuff is really inspired. The actual core PvE gameplay, barring instances is a mindless grindfest and its a great achievement on Blizzard's part that in general - you don't see it as such. The colorful backdrops change often enough, the mobs cycle often, there's the occasional pretty scenery etc. etc. By all accounts it should have been garbage, but that could have been said for Diablo as well. I felt that there was great potential for role playing there but considering the average WoW or just MMO player, its wasted. You only need to see a couple of players with names like "Minislut" for your immersion to get blown to bits, and whatever Blizzard claims about its "strict policies" in the two weeks I saw everything from gold sellers, bots, offensive names, griefers/gankers/ninja looters - you name it. On a more humorous note, I couldn't cancel my subscription without filling out a questionnaire as to why I was leaving?? Jesus. And after selecting a reason from a drop down menu, a box appeared with a counter argument, persuading me to stay. Sick.

In my experience, the people you play with is what makes or breaks an MMO. If you can find a group with similar interests and playstyle, you might as well write off the next few months of your social life. Otherwise, those games are boring as ****... or worse. Ultimately, yes. On its own WoW is a finely made game, though excruciatingly boring at times. If I had 5-6 regular people to play with that I know in "real life" I'd probably emerge from my room this time, next year. Thank god this wasn't around when I was 16, it would have ruined my life.

Whoever said there's no free month with the WoW expansions was right, I've looked over the boxes thoroughly and there's no mention of such a thing. Which is why I won't be buying them, because to keep on playing this game and be even remotely competitive (with the stratospheric level progression post lvl 60) I'd need to buy both expansions and around two more months subscription which in these parts is just under 70 euros (+15 I paid for the original game). Not to mention Cataclysm which is going to make max level characters obsolete by the time it shows up. Looking at it, its really daylight robbery considering the content of the expansions and how old the game is now. 100+ euros overall, plus the huge investment of time... not worth it. That said I'd recommend this game for everyone to try out, I've really had a lot of fun with it. On the other hand the people can be extremely irritating, there are simply too many kids/spoiled brats playing. My char is lvl 51 now and quickly burning through those last few levels.

I always used the same combo in Mirrors Edge, a flying kick followed by a few punches - with a little practice there's no chance they'll retaliate. I never used a gun in that game. Anyway still playing WoW. Appreciating the fact that they actually made a useful class out of the Druid and the Ranger (or Hunter here) something DnD couldnt manage in 20 years. Also the fact that mages can teleport around the gameworld and conjure up food and drink is ingenious.

When you reach 80 it's actually pretty easy to earn money. I earned about a grand in the week after I completely drained my bank simply by only doing my daily random dungeon (earns you like 20 gold and 2 badges). Also it should be pointed out that your leveling is going to slow WAYYY down when you hit 60 because (among other thigns) blizz has gone through a few times and dropped the total amount of XP required for the 1-60 game by a third, and hasn't really touched the burning crusade stuff. Although it is easier in BC because you don't run from continent to continent 8 times for three quests. BTW what class did you roll up? Warrior. Putting all my talents into Fury... Its making soloing a lot easier. You don't want to put ALL your talents into one tree. In general there are a lot of talents that are fairly useless http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.h...23756&sid=1 ^is an endgame fury guide. Try to follow it but make sure as soon as you can you get Titans Grip. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents...ara&group=2 ^my warriors fury spec. I think I have a point in the wrong spot but I'm not sure. That said, not all the talents I have would be very good for leveling because they're designed to maximize damage output, while some of the others are designed to keep you going. Warriors are ROUGH to level as they don't have any internal healing ability, but once you get titans grip things get MUCH easier. Also, I r clensing the galaxy of tyrnaids on orks on Dawn of War 2. Not as good as the first. Unless I'm horribly wrong, as someone who has only the vanilla WoW, the only way to get Titans Grip at lvl 60 is to invest all talents into Fury? (all 50 talent points cos TG is the last one) The plan was to do this until I get BC, which is when I will delete all the talents and rearrange them?

I don't know about Awakenings but I'm having more pure fun with WoW then I ever had with DA. Insofar as they can be compared (in say, combat, level design, balance, progression), sadly, WoW is a far superior product. There are more on the fly tactical considerations when going solo in WoW than with an entire party in DA. And party based combat in WoW is really party based, unlike DA where everyone is a meat shield for the spellcasters. I'm continually surprised at how good this game is, even with Blizzards high standards. Area design in particular is simply ingenious, both visually and in terms of functionality (at least when you have a mount). Then again, since its my first MMO, the novelty might be clouding my judgment. Well, if you picked up Wrath you could try out some of the lower level raids (assuming you got the gear for the elitist berks to actually let you in). You think 5 mans are tactical... wait for 10/25 man raids where boss fights can take up to about 10 minutes of battering (Arthas has something along the lines of 117 million hp I think). I've only got vanilla at the moment but when I'm through with BC I'll consider picking it up. Over half of the players on all servers are lvl 80, so I'm assuming if I wanted to do almost anything I'm going to have to match them. I got a nice boost yesterday when a kind dude who as he said, was quitting WoW, just handed me 300 gp out of the blue (so the money doesn't go to waste). Really refreshing after the horrible kids that spam each other in general chat.

No thank you, MMO's really aren't my thing. You better watch out, soon your nice signature might change to a colorful banner that states that you are level 60 snotgoblin, the archbugger of Azeroth. Come ooooon, yeah they suck - but with a nice crowd (yeah, I count as a crowd) it can be a lot of fun. Plus, its cheap now - 15 euros for retail + a month of game time. If you want to be really cheap, like me, you should get a trial first and level the char to lvl 20, to save yourself paying time:lol: To be fair, that's the base game. Once you hit sixty you gotta buy Burning Crusade for another 15 to get to 70, then drop another amount for Wrath of the Lich King to get to 80 and access those zones. Heck it might even be worth starting with BC given the Dranei and Blood Elf starting zones are friggin awesome (and give really nice items when you reach the end of em). I consider BC acceptable since its effectively the cost of one months subscription, however I don't think I'll be buying Wrath at all unless it comes down to the same price. That way the whole package will be around 45 euros and 3 moths of gaming time which is way more time playing (and less money) then I spent on like the last 10 single player games put together. You dont get free month with buying expansions... Are you sure? I was pretty sure I saw it written on the box...

My WoW installation took 5 hours. I was considering AoC as well but everyone said it sucked. I was alsto considering LotR online but I don't know anyone who plays it. Jerkface AoC was fantastic for the first 20 levels, which was about a 15-20 hour experience. But it dropped off considerably after that. I still consider those first 20 levels worth the price of admission, as they captured the universe wonderfully and the story is as good as most single player RPG's. There are three guys here who play LotR Online, me, Setzer, and one of the developers. I assumed the servers are split like in WoW and wrote you off. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Okay, I got my full version. Btw my trial character is lvl 20 I'll upgrade that account cos I'm really attached to the char so far. What I don't understand is the server name you gave me, its not on any of my lists? Is it a US server, cos the only ones I can access are EU servers? @Deathdealer: I know. I'm too but the fact of the matter is that there is nothing else to play You could always join us? Come on, the more the merrier... And another one joins the zombie family welcome :D To bad you don't speak czech or slovak, else i would recommend you horde on Drak'Thul server, where my main is working hard to get the 100 mount achievement atm currently on 91 :D Yeah, spreadsheet managment has never been so much fun

i dont know what this means but it sounds dirty as hell. I just realized that I haven't played a PC game since the week Mass effect 2 came out and I beat it twice in row... am i missing something or has it been kinda slow for pc games this year so far? Its been like that for more than five years @Calax: I'll do that when I get a full account, I don't think my trial char can switch servers?
-
Checking out my SCII account, it turned out that I had a 10 day free trial of WoW. Cheapskate that I am, I swallowed it hook line and sinker. Still its kinda boring going solo, anybody here have a sufficiently low level character to join me? I'm an Orc warrior, and in the barrens right now. (Hellscream server) Where's Maria when you need her.

...click of zippo opening ...burning sound of a cigar being lighted ...inhale [the sublime feeling of a 15+ battlecruiser army going up in smoke after 3 gloriously well placed nukes] exhale... Just anotha' day on the Terran front, mhm!

There are piles upon piles of simple PnP systems. Talislanta is ten times better than DnD and you could learn all the relevant rules in one afternoon. And you only need one book. D&D is fundamentally very simple. Throw a d20 and add a modifier. If it exceeds a target number you succeed and if it doesn't you fail. The core mechanic cannot really get much simpler than that, but there are many options, which may create perceived difficulty. I have checked your Talislanta links in the other thread - I will be downloading the huge library of materials that the authors have gracefully made available for free. I will likely stick with heavily modified D&D, but I might draw some inspiration from it if it proves to be good. There are too many things you have to know on the fly as you are playing compared to other RPG systems I've seen. You'll see that the Talislanta rules have about 20 pages altogether, while a complete grasp of the system requires that you read about a hundred pages. Compared to DnD I found it extremely quick and elegant.

Rockstar Asks For Favorable Reviews
RPGmasterBoo replied to Bos_hybrid's topic in Computer and Console
The tone of the messages from Rockstar could be interpreted in various ways. I suppose the journalist had good reason to see a veiled threat in it, being directly involved in the whole matter. Overall it just tells us what we already know: that reviews are, for the most part, nothing more than paid advertising. -
Wiki quote: The best part: its been released for free in PDF form by its creator: http://talislanta.com/?page_id=5 Download and play. I recommend the fourth edition, that being the book with the dark blue cover under the title "Talislanta Fantasy Roleplaying". Add the "Menagerie" and you're set to go.

It won't be long in coming.... Though I'm a sore loser - which keeps me from playing 10 games in a row (unless I'm on a winning streak). After extensive playing (about a hundred matches, ranked in the silver league) I can vouch that the multiplayer component alone makes SCII worth purchasing. I was never really a competitive online sort of player until I got this accursed beta. The only thing I can't forgive Blizzard is for utilizing the Warcraft III graphical style (though toned down from that horrid mess of colors). There's a certain element of slapstick comedy in the way the units move, courtesy of WCIII animation style. On the other hand the engine will be nice to look at a few years from now, something games like World in Conflict and others with "realistic" graphics can't clam. Also it can handle obscene amounts of units on screen at the same time. As for actual strategy, hard counters are quite prevalent. To really beat unit Z you need unit X and so on, mostly centered around the principal tier 1.5 units: Marauders, Roaches and Stalkers/Immortals. They're kinda pushing the staple units (Marine, Zealot and Zergling) into disuse because they're available only a few minutes after those but more powerful than them at the same time. Blizzard will probably nerf them more in the upcoming patches. On a more positive note, race specifics have really been even more emphasized. Terrans can bunker even better, the Zerg can mass armies at insane speeds (and on creep they move blindingly fast) and the Protoss are even more high tech. On the other hand I have mixed feelings about the new units. The original Starcraft universe was more visually and thematically cohesive in my opinion. Anime mecha units like the Viking and Thor, and the futuristic Raven's look a bit out of place with the rugged and clunky redneck Terrans. The Zerg banelings and roaches look a bit too amusing for my tastes, and the Protoss Colossi and Mothership look more mundane than alien. The fact of the matter is that more than a decade has passed and having SCII at least share a resemblance with its predecessor in this day and age should probably be taken as a blessing *cough* yes, CnC4 I'm looking at you *cough*. Take what you can get. Overall, I had my doubts, but as far as I'm concerned - its a day 1 purchase.

Starcraft II, still. I'm slowly but surely mutating into a korean...
