  1. I'm pretty sure PoE will become a great game.I never doubt about it.The only thing I worried about is it will be too slow and won't be received by new gamers. You know how impatient those new gamers are. They may open the game five minutes and yell “What? Can't jump?!” and unstall it. So at the opening time there need to be more attractive elements.Anyway, the sales volume of PoE is still very important to Obsidian~ Let's think some ideas for it. A suspenseful story telling will be attractive, with mysterious environment. A high level battle between NPCs, show some epic magics, powerful summons, cool equipments. Mission design. Several missions with super variable solutions, and a few humor consequence, show the great point of PoE at very first. A funny compinion, like morte in PS:T.Or a beautiful girl What's the else?
  2. I played BG1 in 1998 and played PS:T in 1999, But I never play Fallout2 until 2005.Althrough it was so famous and admired. I have tried it for several times, but every time I abandoned within 2 hours. The beginning of Fallout2 is really a terrible experience for new players. In BG1 ,the duel between Gorion and Sarevok shocked me. In PS:T,the story catch my heart at first minute. But in Fallout2, in almost 1 hour I was fighting a dozen of scorpions, boring and slowly. When I finished the test in temple, the small village also didn't give me much fun. So, I missed the great game for so many years. Finally, in one day of the summer holiday in 2005, I stayed at home and overcame with boredom, so I started Fallout2 again. This time, I insisted to Dan city. Then the charm of the wasteland started revealing to me. Then,I forgot food and sleep, cleared whole the game. Fallout2 became one of my favorite game. After that, I recommended fallout2 to a lot of friends. But none of them accept it,almost for the same reason---terrible first 2 hours. What a pity. So I notice that, without a good beginning,a great game may be missed by a lot of players. I wish Obsidian can design an glamorous prologue beginning for PoE,even using some small petty trick, some flashy stuff,to attract new players as early as possible. Let more light players recognize the funny of old fashion RPG. Didn't come back to the forum for half a year.If the topic has been discussed before, sorry for that.
  3. IMO, that depends on the graphics technology. How varied behavior can the 3D character model do, how excellent the fighting be. If the 3D model can stun enemies, knock down their weapons, chop off their hands or legs, stumble them, poke them blind, kick them away, jump attack, defend by weapon, attack by shield, dodge attack by roll, even hold them by hands, wrap them by whip......Of course the melee fighting will become as funny as magic duel.
  4. IMO, the biggest problem isn't balance, it's how far we can go on the design of chiper's ability, within necessary balance, of course.Balance is easy to do, we can just limit the ability under a very low level, like eimatshya said, the simple dialogue design of paladin in Icewind Dale. But that's not cool, not exciting enough. I wish PE can have a really exciting class, a revolutionary design. I wish we can have something like this: Princess:" Welcome, brave advantger. Thank you for your great contribution to our country." Paladin:"It's my pleasure, princess." Princess:" Welcome, brave advantger. Thank you for your great contribution to our country.(this man is so attractive. I can hold my heart beating!)" Paladin:"Forget those contribution. Would you mind have a drink with me tonight?" [You wake up in princess' bedroom. There are many scratches on your back. -5 health.]
  5. Oversexualization or unsexualization...Anyway...It's just a trivial problem(IMO). Haven't you seen the concept art of sagani and Cadegund? I think I reall can't associate them with the word "sexual"...
  6. When I saw the intruduction of cipher, I was confused how to play such a character who can read others' mind. If my main PC have such ability, the story telling will be totally different. A small example: Dialog 1 Panic woman: "Please help me! My husband fainted in that dark alley. I don't know what can I do!" Paladin:"Dear lady, please don't worry.I will help your husband immidately!" Dialog 2 Panic woman:"Please help me! My husband fainted in that dark alley. I don't know what can I do!( Stupid advantager, I will trick you into the dark alley and rob you with my men.)" Cipher:"Go to hell, damn robber!" [You make 20 hurt to the panic woman with fireball. Her body smells like a Chrismas turkey.] So Chipers can disregard most of conspiracy and lie. They can crash a normal plotline with a totally diifferent way. I should say this ability will give us a pretty cool game experience. But will such a complex dialog writing be possible?Or OE will use another way to show cipher's ability? Will there be some kind of magic equipments that can avoid cipher's mind detecting, like Magneto's hemlet in X-MAN? I can't remember were there any other RPGs have similar design. IMO, that will be a revolution on RPG dialog writing,If OE can do a creative job on the design of chiper.
  7. Board game.. That's something I never considered before, interesting.... Mixed with gambling, could it be possible? Everything is possible......with enough budget
  8. Yes, I wish I can play board game with my companions in stronghold~ I always love this kind of topic, those small details, hiding elements, easter eggs..... They like spices, very trivial, but make whole game taste great.
  9. I haven't played fallout 1 because there wasn't a Chinese translation
  10. I perfer he can use the ability to become a murder, not just investigating Anyway, great companion setting!
  11. Haha, really an interesting scene! Why not? As I said in another topic, I wish I can awaken a elder race suvivor in the bottom of mega dungeon. Then bring him back to today's society. He may do many Improper things and my role will be the "firefighter". I'm sure that will be a funny story
  12. Yes, that's what I want to say! Like fallout2, the similar dark humor combat log, the similar varied way of death. That will be great fun!
  13. Hmm..it could be a interesting setting, which depends on how the magic Mechanism setted by OE.For me, I perfer some elder races, who can awaken a sercet chapter in history, which make the background deeper.
  14. Not necessarily? I think all the 8 should be not necessarily. Of course OE will allow solo play in PE. He means that they aren't necessarily available as companions. As in some of them may be regular ol' NPCs that can't join your party. =P Really? Did OE said that?I will consider this as a good news...
  15. I don't know much about Warhammer. But,a companion with no soul? Cool!!! Well, I had a lengthy response, and then my browser crashed. Blunts are rare individuals that, varying by age, genetics and practice can extert either a personal sort of anti-psychic field, or an extended on, either with varying effectiveness. Mechanically, it is a bit like the spell mantle spells, only as a supernatural ability, with some anti-divination or nondetection added in. The caveat is the vast majority of humans (95+%) in the setting have some psychic sense, the majority on some subconcious level. This means encountering someone who creates a sort of null zone in that sense causes anything from a sense of danger, an uncomfortable feeling, olfactory hallucinations and maybe more. Pariahs are the super-rare who can devour psychic energy, and are understandably legendary. More common are pariah-imitation gear, which is of course very rare, but absorbs a certain portion of psychic energy and might even redirect it. A companion like that would be neat, I think. Or one who has lost their "core" or soul, or maybe never had one. Oh, God. Too many diffcult words for me^_^b Let me find some Chinese Warhammer information first...
  16. I don't know much about Warhammer. But,a companion with no soul? Cool!!!
  17. Not necessarily? I think all the 8 should be not necessarily. Of course OE will allow solo play in PE.
  18. Ha, that's an interesting theory Also, a weird companion could be the abnormal event our normal player charatcer should deal with. That will be a funny story.
  19. Hmm...Maybe they are hard to compare with. We know BG II have 17 companions
  20. I think maybe there could be some companions out of those normal races and normal classes which can choiced by players. Also, they can have unqiue shapes, even aren't a human-like shape. They can have some special abilies as Morte's skulls summon, or some special equipments like dakkon's sword. Such kind of design will make them really irreplaceable. Of course, character's personalities is most important thing. All of these design about other elements should base on good dialog writting. But that won't be a problem for Chris, right? So let's discuss something out of character's personalities. Just a thought~
  21. We know the companions in PS:T were very unique. There were flying skull, walking armor, machine cube, burning Man and stunning succubus. The most normal companion is a pretty girl with tail. Both of them have unique races, unique equipments, and unique abilities beyond normal classes. Aslo, in DA:O we have a cool stone prisoner and war dog as our companions. Now we know 5 compnions from 8 in PE. It seems all of them are normal persons. Do you wish there will be one or more "weird" companions in the next 3?
  22. Maybe a tarrasque like creature could be a challenge to your stronghold. You need a whole army and war machines to defeat it, not a six person team.
