  1. Free speech is wow didn't want to make a political point but I guess this is what's developed in video games and it needs to be put to rest. Free speech is not a right, certainly not inherent in nature, it's been made a right by the government and forces and nerds and all kinds of people..... Basically saying what you actually want/think has been restricted in various ways various times by various cultures in various ways... and the reason the issue is popping up in America , because, believe it or not, free speech in America has never been effectively at all times or continuously (as in only exists in burst and spurts) able to gurantee free speech, it's been repressed easily then and now. In the last 20 years, what developed is free speech got threated threatened as video games and the government/usa all these traditional nerd communities etc were taked taken out of the picture.... Now people realize their free speech is gone, and blamed all those sub cultures, now they realize even after attacking them viciously free speech is still gone. Ergo we get the final conclusion, which is that they are wrong... I mean honestly people though t like Los Angeles in America is some bastion of freedom, it's the COMPLETE opposite at least it always has been, who can say when/ever that will change... it's the purest form of institutional repression. So if people want free speech, then they at least have to support the institutions that give them that.... What made WoW a big success is people could talk openly and freely for the first time for a very long time... on the internet... in various ways.... That couldn't happen before, what could replicate WoW's success in the future is just maintaining that... and believe it or not there's very few places where \ you can do that i.e. but here it is acceptable obviously within typical limits of a kind but essentially it's maintained in a way not given to others. I was/ well am to an esxtent one of the nerds responsible for helping create the OC inferno and I mean that not in a bad way like the explosion of possibilities there not directly but for example I provided a lot of advice in Everquest on the quest system and developing it and trying to make sure it worked through my own trial and error... I thought quests were the future of games and quit Everquest when it became clear that the decxd dedicated quest system wasn't going to work. Now I've never been an official employee of these places but yes in terms of playing them and doing stuff I've followed a lot of these games and attempted to learn what is attracting players and obviously many of us like the game universe and characters but the true/deepest attyraction has been commuhnication. I've already explained what, IMO, Obsidian should do from a game perspective, and at any rate as to the other reasons people are attracted to these places I guess it's just up to peole to recognize that free speech is being provided here and other people should get it and the argument isn't about whether people should get it although some might argue that, from my POV It's recognizing that many peole don't have it. And then why they don't have it, and why these forces provide it, and honestly tons of other questions... that discussion should just be getting started I guess right about now and we can move on from there more or less I believe. The free speech side is also recognizing that Orange County is actually run by a guy who stra traces his politics to the east of America where law has traditionally resides, such as Tennessee and so on (I believe Donald Bren speaks with a southern accent actually, for ex) Corporations, regular government people, nerds, non-nerds, just... the forces/combination of factors that provide good things is mysterious and leaving parts out is bad... identity is good but failing to understand the big coalition thing is also bad IMO. I think this also spills into why I don't believe TOW will be a hit... I mean it'll sell... but it's retrograde... honestly all of the Obsidian/Fallout kinda games are more or less too retro.... for super mainstream success. Like in Fallout 1 the enemy is the enclave... kinda…. but really the Enclave (remnants of the US govt) and the renegades in Fallout are basically both minorities, they rely on each other I think... and what should happen is it should go forward. In fact, the brotherhood of steel runs more or less like a kind of government already, it's organized and institutionakl, so the enclave should for it's own part recognize that this isn't wanton chaos, it's people that created some kind of space out of chaos... It's more or less a replication of greek mythology etc and the idea that there is nothing and then there is a light of a kind... But as well know.. the Greeks were eventually defated… so what does provide free speech? Well I don't know how much it matters... but I can tell you that if there were ancient greeks, and they did awesome things, and they're spiritual essence lives on on now in some form, then they are definitely inm important in one form or another.
  2. Now THIS is definitely a thread I can get into... I watched Deep Blue 2 yesterday and honestly way better than the first one and all around impressed on a number of differnet levels... Also I thought the actress is pretty cute... Danielle Savre is her name...
  3. The wayyy off topic forum... hm.... .this could be sort of interesting I guess. I'm just sort of used to the old system of video games where you talked about in the room or nearby you might glean bits from a manual. then I feel like we entered into the era of talking about video games online or more easily with fans and ZOOM we're over to just talking about everything online but honestly HEY that's fine it's actually me being here because I guess I'll try and participate some.... Certainly I don't mind if other people go about it... ok um.... Er well today's been a short day but I'm thinking about going ona small wlak walk* maybe I guess, we'll see.
  4. Haven't played it, don't know what to make it of it honestly... I'm sure it will sell quite a bit though.
  5. Oh pictures OF rather IN games I thought this meant like pictures of your games sitting on a shelf an d I go tall excited. This is pretty cool also though... I've got quite a few from different games nad maybe I can get some wh here but seeing other people's ocol ones isn't bad either.
  6. Loading situations won't ruin the game anyway... but is is worth investing in reduced loads.... I think c developers set their sights way too high or way too low sometimes... it's got to be no loading and everything has to be marshalled around that, or some people go with it has loading so what? Players the typical player etc, if they want TOW to be a big success IMO, notice the in between stuff, everyone does, actually... So lets aim for that.
  7. Flaws are nice.... I don't know if I'd add on to it or exterpolate in any crazy way though... myself.
  8. REading the preview someone posted here earlier (which I'm worried about necroing I guess so it's still there) Everything is on the can't wait to play it levels of excitement and energy! However... VATS? That's the only thing that jumped out... I'm not sure VATS is s asystem I'd want from Fallout 3 to make it's way here... that's all.
  9. I REALLY enjoyed the Canteen system in Wastleand 2 for whatever the reason which I know is a different team and all.... but for osme reason I definitely think it goe er does give a strong sense of realness and stuff to the character... it's very interesting game wise also to plan around it.... so I'm going to have to counter the posts in this thread and agree with the developers I guess since they are at least putting it in the game.
  10. If they make a sequel I'd want to see a new character, the same character can make the all important vic video game cameos though however!
  11. I'm hoping for $60.... I hope they make TOW as much about te hn technology or even more about technology than about the user experience per se or themes etc. … I want them to invest in the xbox one technology the way devs would always push the limits of console particular in later cycles... and charge extra for the added effort/experience..... Then of course as I've stated I'm hoping for them to get back to their o roots and make a pure D&D styole heavy fantasy game... I don't know why they've been pulled in the sci fi/fantastical direction so many times.... However... I also think it would be cool for that ultimate silly game also but I think TOW is too mainstram focused for that.... I think video games though are as b much about te t technology and the medium and stuff like that as the themes and core experience though so I'm happy... I just think there's a sense of familiarity about TOW like in 2019... we've seen sci fi... we've seen off beat Roadster style... media... more than a few times.... Fallout because it's so extreme would be a surprise but obviously we already have fallout... so it would have to be even more silly to be tha beat that.... But then I actually think it would be cool for Obsidian to be known for pure high fantasy style games.... So basically I'm saying a lot of things and it's a weird order/trj r trajectory but I think that's a map for ultimate success and acknowledgement.
  12. It's a really interesting point you are making and people do not think about the colors enough in game... It used to be you could always use a brightness filter at least int he beginning so games would let you defin it a bit... I hope that is here also... Something beyond that that incorporates more could be really interseting and novel though IMO.
  13. This sounds like what they have in mind and can be a nice system/addition IMO. There are many memorable companion/ihnteractino moments in these types of games.
  14. Hello everyone... ok so as far as I know most of us have played D&D or AD&D in on3e form or another... and I got to thinking.... Now that we are in 2019 and stuff and we have voice IP with onoline... we have dice rolling apps, we have mobile devices, we have you know everything there's more than a few ways to play D&D... P{eople have been arguing close to me recently about it a bit and it's like... the old method is agreed upon I think, everyone meets at someone's actual house... and then we sit around a table and / or couch or situation with a bunch of books and it is 100% pure pen and paper.... Now w however, it's exploring the new possibilities, we s could use a combination of the above... for example a DM uses pen and paper.... but the others are using applications... and there's different applications... there's roll 20 there's a few other ones I've seen now.... and youc o could compare those..... The one thing I feel strongly about is editions , I really think that 2e is the one that is the most hardcore... and that means it feels the most rigid and has a lot of crazy possibilities... whereas 3.5E is in between and 5e is the most adccessible basically. But yeah so I don't know what do people think... should it be like the old way... for communication, or can te h technology improve the way people play D&D are you still getting the pure experience etc?
  15. Ok now once Obsidian makes a fantasy themed after game fater after the outer worlds... THEN I think they should make the greasiest silliest/flimsiest most cartoonist wild apocalypstic game ever! Like you should probably play as a cow or something goofy... and then it's pl like postapocalyptic but Not only is the earth all a wasteland like everywhere is so you basically are on the moon a remote area of the moon is the only place that escaped apocalypse. I think I once heard.... like this is how I see Obsidian..... Basically Black Isle and folks all started making epic fantasy games... bard's tale and stuff I guess... not Obsidian but that's the theme.... so without returhning to those roots I think People won't be clear on the identity and stuff.... So you want to haver Obsidian make that game fa after TOW to establish an identity.... But THEN because over time the games got more futuristic sci fi and Fallout like you should make a game like Fallout but a SAPIRITUL er SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR because avoid the IP issues.... Sort of like TOW Is a bit of a spiritual succ3essor to 3D fallout you want a spiritual successor to 2D fallout.... But even WILDER! Like the oirig original pitch I heard for fallolut is that you were a time traveling space cowboy astronaut or somehting and that would be AWESOME! Ok that's all I got...
  16. Hello I'm just going to of go off on kinda a big tangent almost that is at least 1% connected to the original post so I hope d people don't mind. First off, y first exposure to the kinda feel of the outer worlds and the this sort of scene if you will came with Interplay in the early and mid 90s, I guess actually basically mid to late 90s anyway around there. More or less like anyone I found the entire style of the oriiginal fallouts to be very unq unique, one of a kind, and have isnce since enjoyed hearing many fo the stories s told by everyone regarding that era and the fun they had, they truly have created something unique that stands the e test of time. Some more background, I actually as a general rule prefer fantasy genre, such as medeival or heroic fantasy, although not necessarily some of the more commonly used fantasy things since I feel like they don't really capture medieval fantasy very well. For example, World of Warcraft has medieval fantasy elements, but as everyone knows can also be very cartoonish and stuff like that at the same time, along with a s wide vareit variety of other games and genres.... Wildstar I think also fit this theme to an extent and I believe had some of the poeple now at at Obsidian working on it which is sorta neat, however I wouldn't say it's medieval fantasy more like in the same vein as the others to an extent. I think basically what I'm trying to say is that I believe medieval fantasy oul could be very popular and exciting fof for people... however it would take a lot of committment and stuff to do it well. Interestingly, the most interesting series to me growing up is actually the elder scrolls series from a fantasy RPG perspective, it is very very clearly positioned as such and I think thats one of the many reasons it's very successful now. Ma Meanwhile, the entire cartoonish more silly market basically got entirely captured by world of Warcraft... a game which does that very well although to be fair has some medieval fantasy elements as well..... So in the interim I've also followed a lot of other things the kinda crew has done such as Wasteland 2 and other things... and also followed the formation of new companeis etc and all that Basically it boils down to, for some reason, I finally feel like this is IT. IT h as in everything is sorta coming together... like... we're at a point where traditional ga video games are moving to a wide vareity of other platforms and stuff... but there's that feel amongst the hardcore v community that this is basically still something missing from those games and that is the traditional heroic epic medieval fantasy RPG game.... And as stated... I think this company, Microsoft, funding, all of it is together to finally make it a reality. I can see something with like X Box One X enhanced... RPG like series to rival TESO and WoW not necessarily not AT ALL by the way with an online component... not righ tnow.... Single player RPGs we all have played and enjoyed a ton so I don't think there's any issue there. By the way this isn't a knock at all against the typical Fallout esque style of Outer Worlds... I really enjoya rousing drumbeat environment as much as anything... in fact like I said believe it or not a fe fresh copy of TESO Arena ended up being so expensive and stuff and inaccessible... and then I'm like hey... this isn't fantasy but Fallout is pretty great in it's own right! But now, I think with the market clearly being WoW for silly and crazy.... and maybe TES and/or something else for epic fantasy.... I believe that this company can definitely produce a classic if they reach for that slice of heroic fantasy.... Basically how great it would be to have a Fallout like game, with all it's awesome graphics, music, sound, game design, and flavor, but raised to the level of a traditional epic fantasy RPG. Single player would be great also... and the reason I say this very long post is because while I believe Outer Worlds will be successfuol, and I hope to support it in some way, this is definitely the thing that could be a great opportunity to t radically transform the video game landscape. Ok that's all I have to say, , at any rate, we'll see how things go I guess!
