  1. Yes, actually I did all you said, twice. 2 things though. * You were not supposed to patch Bg1 if you had Bg1 - The Original Saga (whatever that is). I have the original Bg1 on a DVD. Is that the Original Saga? * You were supposed to download a small file and put it in the bg1tutu/bg1-override folder if you didn't have TotsC installed. I downloaded this file, but it was saved as a .txt file. There was a direct link to it, but I don't know if it was supposed to be a .txt. file. This is the link to the file: http://home.arcor.de/varana/RNDEQUIP.2DA. It still just blinks, maybe it's one of the 2 things above I did wrong. N.
  2. I cant get tutu to work. Got BG1 and 2 installed on C:, but when I run tutu the cmd screen where I'm supposed to make different choices, it just blinks and then and disappears. N.
  3. This is it? A few D&D Online screenshots? Bah!.. Boooring.. N.
  4. There doesn't seem to be any E3 threads, so I'll start one myself. I can't find anything about Obsidian, Bioware, NWN2 or Dragonage at the E3Insider site. I was under the impression we would get to see some screenshots. Did I miss something? N.
  5. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is wis.. You just got +1 wis
  6. Do you even care anymore Visc? You're a consol-man now no?
  7. Hmm.. str 9/18 dex 13/18 con 10/18 (not been sick since 1997 though) int 10/18 wis 15/18 (I have my own def. of wisdom) cha 12/18 N.
  8. Enough Star-Wars already.. Let's see some quality sword & sorcery crpg stuff again.. N.
  9. Rolemaster.. no doubt. I voted that, but it still shows 0.
  10. I'm really curious about NWN2. Can't wait to see the first screenshot. *sigh* *patiently twiddles his thumbs*... N.
  11. Well in the X number of threads I've been through about RT vs. TB, the IE games are hailed as the prototypical RT with pause games, and ToEE is the typical TB-game. Call it whatever you want, as long as I don't have to endure the boring ToEE engine and that cardboard_game-like combat-system, I'm happy. Also, I'm quite sure they can make a game which is both RT with pause, and TB, to satisfy both groups.
  12. What a load of nonsense. Baldur's Gate didn't have any tedious TB comat-system, nor did it have radilal-menus to make the game easier for those under 12. And yet it sold like hot-cakes, and became the greatest crpg hit ever. How difficult can it be to add a radial-menu in the consol-conversion process. bah.. Remember the awesome Myth series from Bungie? Remember how popular those games were? And then the 3D prequel made by another company, Myth III - the Wolfage. It was a total disaster. What about that TB-rubbish ToEE. It was a disaster as well. The customers aren't stupid. The critics and those who think they understand the market are. I wouldn't take your advice even if I was blind. Making a dumbed-down consollish BG-game, with nice shiny soulless graphics, radial-menus for kids and even turning it into some chess-like TB game.. it would provoke the millions of people who bought BG1 & 2. N.
  13. Aren't you the guy who gave NWN 96% even though you didn't like it? And you justified this by saying something like: Most people would probably like it, so I'll have to give it a high score.. (!?) Now you're saying that a turn-based 3D engine would sell more. I suppose you would have to give a game like that 96% too eh? Not because you'd like it, but because that's what most people would probably like? rofl.. Critics are all the same, whether is movie/theatre/book/games- critics. Don't listen to any of them. Re-create the mystary engine, 3D, better and more realistic looking avatars, RT with pause and a great story. That's what the old BG-fans would like, and that's what would sell. Not some turn-based ToEE clone. Yuch! N.
  14. What happened to the mystary engine? You guys have the skills and the resources to "re-create" that engine. Why not build a new one just like it, or better, and call it something else? Or is that illegal? Then you'll have a top-angle-view IE-like engine, which is 3D as well. I can't say whether or not a sword & sorcery-game with an engine like that would be a best-seller. All I know is that I would buy 3 copies myself. N.
  15. ^^ Agree. I love the IE games. N.
  16. Huuuuuuuuuuge worlds are up there right next to physics when it comes to dumb features in games. No developer has enough resources to populate such big world in any sort of sensible manner, so in the end all you get is lot of reused graphics that doesn't serve anything, one significant building every 1-2 km and people running everywhere to cut down on travel time... which totally breaks the immersion, hardly a good thing for the RPG. GTA gets away with it because with all the cars, bikes and whatnot it has you don't travel much on foot in it... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Horses! Lot's of space, wasteland, forest and a party travelling on horseback. With an eagle-view map you can guide the party around like you send your ship around in Sid Meier's "Pirates". Imagine clicking your party on horseback around on a map like this (with slightly less water, and more land of c.) If there is an encounter the game zooms in and you find yourself in the traditional top-angle Infinity Engine view. N.
  17. I meant more in terms of like in Fallout where the characters didn't have magical powers per se, and combat relied on firearms or melee weapons exclusively. Whereas how BG has mages and spells, and KOTOR has Jedi and the Force, I want a game where there are no spells or no Force powers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A party-based IE-like game set in a medieval world, bloodfeuds, poison and intrigues. A darker game, no elf-chicks with bouncing t*ts or heroic barbarians with oiled pecs. Preferably a fantasy world (I don't like real-world settings) and a story written by real authors (a story w/o the traditional save_the_princess clichees). Maybe inspired by norse/ Icelandic sagas (ever seen Revenge of the Barbarians) An awesome movie. An if there is magic, it should be way more subtle. No glowing shields or fireballs.. Visions maybe, curses, hexes.. dark rituals, or maybe healing and silent prayers. N.
  18. I want either a nasty CP Night City crpg where I get to play my japanese latex-dressed femme fatale with grafted muscle and bone lace, or a mystary engined FR top-angle view 6 man party crpg.
  19. Who cares if roleplaying just one character is "the true roleplaying way" or not. It's about creating a good crpg which is fun to play for one person sitting in front of a computer-screen, something which is quite different than PnP gaming. They tried to create that *feeling* i NWN, and watch what happened. Most players still think the old Infinity-engine games are way funner to play than NWN. Besides it gets really boring to just play a mage or a fighter throughout the entire story. Sometimes you want to play a thief and do a few stealth-missions, other times you'd like to concoct some weird potions with a mage in your laboratory, or run a castle with your brave knight. In PnP groups we have each our character, but in crpgs you're just one person playing. There is no way AI characters can give you the feedback a RL PnP-group can give you, so why bother trying to create the perfect PnP-feeling in a crpg? Also, no-pause is just plain idiotic. It's not like we want some Duke-Nuke'em online fast ongoing non-stop action in a crpg where you have to plan and prepare spells, use strategies etc. Sounds like a mess beyong belief. You'd be hopelessly dependant on quick-buttons and RL reflexes, which would make fighers infinitely much easier to play than for instance a mage. On the other hand you have the tedious turn-based nonsense, which makes the game look like chess. RT with pause is the best way. If you don't want to pause, you can always skip it. It's not like you *have* to press the spacebar. It's up to you. N.
  20. Companion AI doesn't necessarily mean good RP. Even if you micromanage them, they could still be "alive". They could even refuse if the party-leader gives them orders, or ask you questions if you remove something from their inventory etc. Micromanagement could even ADD some RP value to the game, as it would be a ongoing dicsussion between the leader and the companions when you actually order them to do something. For me, even if it is a crpg, controlling my characters in combat is the most important thing. What if you face a group of enemies with good AI, and all you get to do is watch what happens? What kind of game would that be? N.
  21. The good coordination could be a result of planning. Have you not seen how the military commando squads plan their attacks? Have you seen the movie "Executive Decision" ? :D When they enter the flight cabin, it's all planning and coordination. One wrong move and the team is dead. I think you could expect the same from a party of adventurers who travel with each other for years. Of course when you take in a new companion you'd expect some confusion, but I don't think 'fighting chaos' necessarily makes for better roleplaying. If it's "realism" you want, I'd much rather start with game graphics - i.e medieval clothing and atmopshere instead of the consol-like fancy_skimpy_clad_wizard_chick and the big_brave_bodybuilder_barbarian look which is the style of every crpg nowadays.
  22. Yeah, if your companions don't perform very well, the leader might as well micromanage them. In a PnP game the group gets together and plans a strategy. At least we did when I played PnP D&D. Why shouldn't the leader in a crpg be able to do the same. I'd like to order the thief to wait at a certain spot before he runs in and backstabs, while the mage casts 'hold', and the fighters charge in to keep the opponents busy.. etc. You know, strategy. And if one of the lightweighters carry too much, I'd like to order the strong-man to carry some of their eq, i.e be able to go into inventory and move items over, dress/undress etc. I don't see why this should ruin the rpg atmosphere in a game. Also, it can't be much trouble to implement both both options, seeing as there are two groups of people here, those who would like to control it all, and those who would rather control just one character. It's just scripting anway, and it shouldn't be too hard to just toggle it off, if that's what some people (like me) want. The "mad AI henchmen running around doing crazy stuff" -option would still be available to those who like that approach. N.
  23. I'd love to see a combination of the two. If the purpose of having AI controlled companions is to increase the roleplaying "value" or so, why did I feel that BG was much more of a roleplaying game than NWN? Here is my opinion: Let a character join your group. Let him voice his opinions, let him show who he is and what kind of character he is by talking to the other group-members. Also, he could come up with ideas during combat and/or do his own thing unless the group-leader (you) orders him to do otherwise. If the group-leader orders him to run out and perform some suicidal action, it should be a companion will vs. leader char/will save to see who wins the debate. For instance, you order a brave and loyal fighter to charge out and fight three hard oponents. He obeys, i.e you win the debate easily because of your companions personality, and because you're a good leader. Then you order a neutral-evil thief to do the same thing, he refuses because you were a poor leader, or because he won the roll. A scenario like this would make for much better roleplaying imho. Something actually happens between the characters, and you get to be a part of the drama. Whether or not I get to micromanage the companions' inventory, or tell them which spells to pick when they level is unimportant RP-wise, but important for me as a player and leader of the party. I'd like to micromanage. That's what the game is all about. Playing the game, not watching it happen. Of course, maybe there could be some debate as to which spells the mage should pick. As a leader I might suggest something, but he could refuse and pick something else. Another RP situation. The point is, micromanaging the party doesn't necessarily ruin the possibility of RP. Having some red-tiger clan Orc barbarian running around killing everything in sight isn't my idea of good RP. It's just annoying, plain and simple. Having that Tomi/Tommy character running over to every chest he can see to pick their locks is not necessarily PR either. You just get to be a helpless spectator who no longer runs the game. If I want to see a movie I'll go rent a movie. N.
  24. For Gods sake, we've had half a decade of KotR now, let's see something else. I'm sick and tired of Star Wars.
  25. To the first poster: The Infinity-engine games aren't for impatient people who want fast action. Maybe some first person view action-RPG is more up your alley. *shrug* N.
