While Fallout and Fallout 2 did have some quest revolving around basic survival most towns seemed to be past that in their development. Broken Hills was the only real town that had to be abandoned due to lack of resources in the end. Did they actually explain how the Hub had so much water? Was it a well or water towers? I forget actually it has been a while since I played Fallout 1. I know Fallout 2 had that town where you had to form an alliance between the town and the gang that controlled the farms because the town was starving and if you didn't make them friends they fought over the farm. Then again they had towns like New Reno, and San Fransisco which had no visible methods of sustaining their populations. At least NCR had land to the south you couldn't see where allegedly all their farms and technical areas were at. Fallout 3 did fail when it came to explaining how certain towns survived, i mean there were pretty much no farms anywhere so unless every town was a hunting and gathering community it made no sense. Then again for the kind of game Fallout 3 was there wasn't really that much of a need, it was a shooter with RPG aspects while Fallout with an RPG that had guns in it. They are both fun to play but for different reasons. Am I hoping that New Vegas has more of the older style to it? Yes I am actually, but I should still have fun regardless i like most of Obsidian games.

To be honest, the game play doesn't look at that impressive to me. They are going back to the totally unscripted missions, with only a few random secondary goals popping up occasionally to break the monotony. Honestly starting each mission with a MCV equivalent gets boring fast as the only thing that changes are the maps. At least that is what the last interview implied, going away from scripted encounters and more toward randomizing enemies on a new map. Essentially making the campaign a string of multiplayer maps with FMV between them. I want to see how they end the storyline and really that is the only thing that makes me want to buy the game.

If I didn't already own them I would definitely pick this up. I love Tiberian Sun, Firestorm was decent. Game play was quite good and while dated still is better then some of the stuff out there today.

i don't mind replaying a game I enjoyed, i have played Earth 2150 like a good 20 times per faction (except the ED they aren't as much fun) I have played a select few JRPGs over and over again, Fallout and Fallout 2 have gotten at least a dozen completions each. I have a lot of games that i pop in ever once in a while to go through them. Perhaps since I haven't been able to afford to buy the latest and greatest games for a while I have been going through my old games more and more. Then again i am a very nostalgic person so games from my younger days still amuse me.

FO:NV: The Return of Gameplay Mechanics Discussion
Atom523 replied to Pidesco's topic in Computer and Console
You know i am quite glad I didn't see a Brotherhood of Steel soldier standing there. At first I thought it would be a vagrant or the main character standing there, but when I saw the NCR flag, i must admit I got a little excited. I am really glad that Obsidian is in charge of this spin off, I liked the NCR in Fallout 2 and thought it had good potential and I am glad to see it revisited. -
ooooh if they get Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries, and Star Trek Armada 1 and 2 I will be a very very happy man.

Well, i would suggest don't coddle him. If he has an ability like that unleash him and then have the consequences of his actions smack him in the face. It might end up being a really short campaign but when one has an ability like that one tends to be hunted for their "evil". The game might not even go the direction you would like it to based on his decisions. Tell him to be careful when talking to his companions heh heh.

honestly i hate it when a game gives you a castle and then doesn't let you use it. I mean come on! What is the point of having a castle when you only hang out in front of it! I would like a patch that will allow you to use it for some new quests and perhaps a HQ. Perhaps even defend it during a siege, that could be fun too.

ah so many lovely sales. Several being games I bought within the last 2 months and now wish that I had more patience I want to pick up several more but I need to get a new job before then. I hope my interview this morning goes well, perhaps I could justify another game if I know that I have a job secured heh heh.

I was running a game today and well I thought this was rather funny. (we play a game called Dark Refuge) All but one of my players are using alien species and the last one is playing a human. One of them is using an alien race that is rather hated and considered illegal as they are natural shape shifters and can steal the form and memories of people they touch. (the version my player is using can steal form but not memories) Well, his cover was blown and so they went to the one place that his kind were accepted, basically a place where if he could prove that he wasn't a threat where he could live in peace and not be hunted. So they give him three tests, the first one he had to choose between saving a loved one and exterminating a species (the last remaining egg of the creature is needed to cure her illness) He rolled an emotional control test and failed it horribly causing his character to act impulsively and destroy the egg and cure his wife. The second test was more straight forward and was a test to see if he would stand and fight to defend his new home against great odds. So the group joined with him and after a fearsome battle they barely came out on top. The third test is the one that I loved. Not for what I did as GM but what the players did. In this test he was put on trial for screwing over a city state to the south. Now in an earlier game they were suppose to transport a sensitive document to an envoy, the seal was not to be broken or else it would invalidate the documents. The shape shifter impulsively ripped it open and read it before I could finish the description which would inform them that they shouldn't open it. During the trail his lawyer (one of the other players) made an impassioned speech about how he shouldn't be found guilty by reason of incompetence. Yes his argument was that the other player's character was so stupid that it was the city state's own fault for even allowing him near such sensitive materials and that someone as mentally handicapped as him cannot be held responsible for his own stupid decisions. I personally was so dumbfounded that he was using this argument and so impressed with how he delivered it that i ended up ruling in his favor on the condition that the character defending the shape shifter becomes his guardian from now and and will be responsible for his actions. I ended the game after that, I will wait for next week to inform them that as he is found to be incompetent he will be unable to leave this asylum without supervision. I love my players the game ended up being so funny.

wait, that's like Final Fantasy combat? What final fantasy has combat like that? That looks like trying to turn a western rpg's combat into FF combat without all that pesky easy to use interface and fun.

That kind of stuff is why I love roleplaying games, when a player decides to act creatively and use his or her environment to their advantage it really makes me smile. Players need to be less worried about what they cannot do and try to be creative and thinks of new things that they can do. Anyone can say "i hit the guy with my sword" things like creating ice spears out of helmets of water is what this is all about.

I finally went back to the game. Grinded a bit for some better stats and concentrated on the weaker units first and got past it. WOO I beat the first area...... heh The game is going smoother now that i got past the first bump and is quite enjoyable.

Really damn default Shep is a jerk. I think I only did that stuff during one playthrough, i figured that they would go with a healthy mix of default history, wow. I usually have the same sex ally die as I am usually tapping the opposite gender one Well I will be glad to use my own data instead of the default one, i want Wrex to live, and I like being the good guy. (most of the time)

Too bad it does. I've yet to be asked or tested by someone, so I spit on your "proof" sir. Oh, it's true. There's an episode of Penn and Teller all about it. As much as I do love Penn and Teller they generally pick the most idiotic people to represent the side of the argument that they disagree with in order to get their side to sound better. I love their show but it is hardly impartial research.

alright, I will give that a shot, I wasn't able to do anything last night cause a friend called and he doesn't know how to end a conversation so by the time I got him off the phone I had to go to sleep. The game seems fun but I do see how people say that the battle system takes some getting used to.
-
main guy, fish general, generic fish guy and a human, the enemy is their leader fish guy, and two squads of two humans. Do enemies respawn? I mean can i beat up generic enemies then leave and come back and fight more people? I suppose i might do better if I get more money so i could buy better equipment that might help. But they just overwhelmed me, maybe I just am not used to the combat system yet, i will try again tonight and see if i can last a bit longer. Didn't expect such a whipping so soon into the game
-
Wow i suck at this game, i am at the beginning, I just got my first group together a general joined me, and i went to a cave to rescue some women. I fought my way past some generic enemies no problem, i faced the gang there and they wiped me out so fast. I mean it wasn't even close, their three groups took me down in like 2 maybe 3 rounds. Sheesh!

Thank you, I realize i am a silly person who figured that a PC game would default on you know, mouse and keyboard settings when installed. I went to the settings area and fixed it.
-
So i just picked this game up on steam and I have a question. I don't have a x box game pad and for some inane reason all the instructions for some reason assume I do. Is there a way to get the game to change the instructions and show me what keyboard buttons to press or does it want to try to force me to buy a wired x box 360 controller to actually know what I am doing? This is getting quite bothersome me hitting random buttons on the keyboard trying to figure out the equivalents to what they want me to do.

I'm not sure how Rogue Squadron or Battlefront would be preferable to TFU, those were pretty mediocre properties. I'll agree on the others, although there is another KotOR coming, it just isn't the one you want While I did enjoy Rogue Squadron (though not the last one) and the second Battlefront game I agree that they weren't the best titles that Lucas Arts pumped out. Rogue Squadron was basically a replacement for the X Wing series to bring the twitch crowd in while tossing out the simulation crowd. I really miss the good old X Wing series and would give a lot to play a new one. The only ones my computer will still play are X Wing alliance and X Wing vs TIE Fighter. I wish I could get TIE Fighter to work but it is too old and I have no idea how to get DOS Box to work, i am not very computer savvy and it scares me As for the Force Unleashed 2, I hope they can take what was bad about the first game and enhance it for the sequel, I might think about getting it then. Better level design, and most importantly, make the lightsaber not suck. I mean I shouldn't have to hit a Stormtrooper 8 times with a lightsaber before he dies, their armor aren't that good. I don't expect an amazing story out of a hack and slash game but something that doesn't spit upon the established lore too would be nice. However considering what Lucas has been doing for a while now that seems too much to ask for.

i am waiting until they release that edition which comes with all of the downloadable content automatically in the game. Is that out yet? I am not sure I am lazy and want to get everyone at once and not piecemeal
-
As much as I would have preferred to see another game in the X Wing series (or better yet a sequel to TIE Fighter) I knew they were going to do a Force Unleashed 2 tonight. Spike TV audiences like big bang action titles. Hey, maybe this one might be better then the first and I might just get it....maybe.

It never appeared there, so I couldn't.

Never mind, apparently it wasn't enough to buy the game, and create an account. I had to make a separate registration on the website to get this apparently. You would think making an account for the game would be enough, oh well.
