Obsidian Entertainment!? You just made (a) List!

Apologize to the world, you summoned Volourn to this thread by mentioning Alpha Protocol (which btw. is awesome). -
Exactly this. And I would like to add that these sidekicks are potential companions in expansions/sequels/other PoE related games. If one of the sidekicks gains a fanbase it's easy to bring him along as a fully fleshed companion the next time around. It also allows them better opportunity to try out different characters they otherwise wouldn't have the resources/time to try out.

Pathfinder isn't available for PC Though I would add Arcanum and Vampires to that other list. -
They've already said multiple times that PoE2 will be similar in size to PoE if not even slighty bigger with the stretch goals. 6 maps is big enough for a city, it's bigger than Defiance Bay. With 1 big city they can develop that city to be a better hub than Defiance Bay was. Defiance Bay lost it's purpose in the late game and you had basically no reason to go back there once you were done with Act 2 and you moved onto Twin Elms.

Exactly this. It's also a great way to test out characters that could become companions in any sequels/expansions. Just because they are not fully fleshed out for PoE2 doesn't mean they couldn't have bigger role in the future. In fact they are a lot easier to bring along as companions in the future when those characters have already been introduced to the playerbase.

They already have such stretch goal for the game which will be unlocked at 3 million and there's been hints about a 8th companion. Adding a companion takes a lot of time and is costly, not to mention adding 4. The sidekicks are there to give us more tactical options without having to use adventurers and at least the sidekicks will have a personality unlike the zombie adventurers. 1 companion won't make much difference when it comes to tactical options/party optimization, 4 sidekicks however will make a diffence. Plus, if they feel like the "sidekicks" from BG they are perfectly fine. B2 had some you could call companions with actual proper storyline and reaction to things and a handful of characters that were there for the ride with their sidequests and who didn't have much to say or to do after that. But those characters still had their uses and fans. I don't recall Minsc having much of personality in BG1, other than being a comic sidekick, but he became a hit and had bigger role in BG2.

I have faith in Obsidian that they don't make the relationship into a cheap gimmick where you can just buy gifts to your companions ala Dragon Age to get them to like you. Same goes to playersexual characters. Nothing against lesbians, trans, gays, animals or golems but if everything in the game wants to **** you, it comes out as really stupid and cheap I still remember my "shock" when pretty much every damn companion wanted to sleep with my Grey Warden. It totally ruined my "immersion" into the game. Had there been some clues, flirting etc. from my character then I would have understood it, but everyone just suddenly started hitting on my poor character and I had to turn them down one by one. Ugh, that was just awful. -
Added Kelvin Nakamura as Environment Artist, Antonio Govela as Senior Animator and Ian Randall as Junior Character Artist. Ian Randall was featured on the Periscope/Twitter video with the Godlike character that Dimitri was working on, Kelvin and Antonio took some st... detective work + Aarik confirming that I wasn't just guessing wrong.

Storyline was actually on it's way.

Nope, that phasing out was about part of the arts team Vehicles and such were phased out to Russia early this year.

"Most OEI members simply got reshuffled, thankfully, so there weren't many layoffs." Hopefully that is true.

Boyarsky joined around 13th of April last year. So almost a year. Though that project all ready took in people from Tyranny team and possibly some artists/programmers from Armored Warfare team earlier this year.
