  1. Hmh. Since Brians Heins is working on Deadfire does that mean that Tyranny is done and the team is doing something else or did someone else take the Game Director role from Heins?
  2. Added Brian Heins as Senior Designer. Unless he is splitting time on Tyranny and Deadfire it seems that his work on Tyrany has concluded.
  3. Positive: 1. Lighting. It's done really beautifully. I ran around with a torch just to see how it looks. 2. Spell effects. These are way better than in Pillars 1. Really well done in my opinion 3. Encounter desing. Really enjoying the encounter design so far. At least this dungeon isn't filled with endless "trash" mobs and the fights with the saints and the Xarokas (sp?) was well done. 4. Adventure screens. I enjoyed these in Pillars 1, glad to see they are back and there's probably even more of those than in Pillars 1. 5. Resting without camping supplies. I'm not grognard enough to cry after the camping supplies, I thought it was a chore to run back to town/nearest merchant everytime I ran out of camping supplies. While I understand some people might want that strategic aspect back, I couldn't care less. This makes my experience at least a bit more relaxed, instead of wasting time to run back and worth. 6. Loading times. You've finally cured the horrible loading times that made my hair turn grey (especially when you had to run back and worth). Negative: 1. Mercenary Mage seemed a bit weak. Not sure if it is the spells he has or maybe the casting time is a bit too long. Either way, he seemed like a bad companion most of the time. 2. Combat felt really fast against Lagunafishmonsters. Otherwise I haven't had trouble with the pacing.
  4. For some reason my Mercenary Priest is trying to finish off casting his spell over and over again when the target of his spell died while he was casting the spell. Everytime I stop moving, the animation starts running over and over again. Now the same thing with my rogue. He is hitting invisible enemies once I stop moving. The glitch does go away if I load a previous save. I'm currently in the Hohina Ravine. Edit: The animation glitch does end if I perform some action though. For example rogue disabling a trap will stop her endless attack on invisible/imaginary enemies
  5. They are in alpha stage. Certainly you don't expect the graphics to be 100% ready at this point? Not to mention the current gen consoles are good enough to run pretty much any PC game without having to kill the graphics. Did you play Pillars 1? You had to find those rare spells in that game as well. I hardly doubt the Archmages are willing to give all of their tricks in this game either. Wizard schools was in my opinion a pointless thing in D&D.
  6. It is not an easy situation for Feargus if two of his partners can't get along with each other. At that point it isn't management issue, it's more of personal issue with Avellone and the Parkers. Keep in mind these are people Feargus probably consider as his close friends. No matter what he does in a situation like these, he is going to piss off one of his partners/friends
  7. Yes, to him perhaps. If the working environment was toxic in general it would show up on glassdoor.com reviews about the workplace.
  8. I think what he meant was that he doesn't want to be the one who deals with the publishers, not that the company couldn't have publishers on games he works on. Cain isn't a dummy, the 1st project he joined had a publisher, as did Pillars. He just had enough of dealing with publishers personally, he doesn't mind that someone else in the company ( Feargus & other partners) do all that and he can just do what he enjoys.
  9. This is what annoys the **** out of me as well. I would understand if it was some random designer saying all this. But it's damn partner in the company who makes these claims and he is coloring the picture like he could just watch all this happen around him without having any power at all in the company. He keeps dropping these small hints here and there, without ever actually telling the whole story. Just enough to badmouth Obsidian's management (that he was part of) every now and then to kick some dirt over them. It saddens me. I had huge respect for the guy, but now it diminishes with every time he pulls out the victim card and signs to write some trivial stuff for some random game. If it was an actual problem, I imagine rest of the partners wouldn't look kindly on Mrs. Parker harassing their workers. Losing Parker clearly wouldn't have hurt the company as much as losing a household name like Avellone did. So, yeah... I doubt that is really the truth behind all of this drama. It might be from Avellone's POV but others don't seem to share his vision on this.
  10. http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,182285/ Chris Parker's wife. Might be, might be other company. From my personal experience a lot of HR in companies (especially smaller ones) were and are handled by spouses or family of the owners. He doesn't mention the name. What other company? Chris has pretty much worked only at Black Isle and Obsidian. This isn't even the 1st attack against the Parkers so it's pretty clear he is talking about Obsidian and Chris Parker's wife in particular.
  11. How do you know? The Deadfire SEC filing from March of this year. You can finesse the truth a little bit when dealing with fans or the media, but when you're providing information to potential investors, you have to be very careful to stick to verifiable facts. Exactly. Not to mention if it was a crowdfunded game they would have been hinting way more heavily about it to build up hype. With publishers comes NDAs and they can't really comment much about anything.
  12. It's not crowdfunded game. They have a publisher for it.
  13. I knew they had some ancillary thing that I wasn't sure about, and I was intentionally not counting the pathfinder team as it seemed to dwindle down to just a small content team. It's development and engineering phase had largely already wrapped up. I think the team size has pretty much stayed the same, around 10 during Pathfinder's development with at least some members splitting time on other projects as well.
  14. I wished it's another RTwP and isometric game? Well my wish is basically close to 0 hope. I'm not sure exactly how large Obs is, and how many teams they are currently running. But at least 3 I believe, with some other small units. Deadfire and Tyranny team share some engine and tooling programmer, but otherwise seem mostly distinct. Deadfire team is tied up until sometime into late Q1 early Q2 of next year. Tyranny team seems to have freed up, it's possible they are continuing with Tyranny or on another game in the infinity-like style. The Cainarsky team probably grows over time as it moves through development stages, I doubt they'd gut the Pillars team for it, but the Tyranny team probably. The Pathfinder team seems small and mostly in a support role, not so much in full dev mode so I'm not really counting it. I predict Josh and PoE team will do a 3rd and final game, before giving the IP to another team to explore other ideas in the world of Eora. I also imagine the Tyranny team eventually making another infinity-like IP down the road even if they are pulled apart to work on the Cainarsky title. All of this arm chair analysis, but I think the team distributions has been made somewhat transparent and I'm pretty confident that there will be a 3rd pillars. Josh has mentioned it in theory and Feargus has mentioned it practice. Plus, getting that 3rd entry like the original BG/IWDs/FO never managed I think will be a worthy milestone to pursue, then they can feel free to explore new projects. Maybe Josh will get his historical rpg after that! They had 4½ teams few months ago: Deadfire Tyranny DLC's (most likely 2nd DLC pack incoming knowing Paradox) Pathfinder Adventures (not sure if they stopped working on this after the recent pack release) Indiana (Cain & Boyarsky) ½ of a project that they seemed to like.
  15. That would be very cruel ****teasing
  16. It's not Fallout. It's Project Indiana which is a new IP.
  17. https://twitter.com/Obsidian/status/928109844665483265 That was posted on Twitter few hours ago. Project Indiana announcement incoming soon?
  18. Are you calling me a subhuman, subhuman? I personally like the 6vs6, it leaves more room for individual skill. If the game was 12vs12 you can't effect the outcome as much on your own and you are doomed to lose if no one else knows how to play which is already a problem even at 6vs6.
  19. Currently playing Mad Max, Overwatch and Bomber Crew. Bomber Crew is like FTL but set in a World War 2 bomber. You go on missions, get money and experience. With experience your crew gets better, with money you can upgrade your bomber.
  20. Yup, everyone interested in how games are being made should read the book. Crunching is a wide spread problem in the industry unfortunately
  21. They are not done with Pathfinder Adventures yet. I doubt they would work on the 4 fantasy projects at the same time. Pathfinder Adventures & CRPG, Pillars 2 and possibly Tyranny DLC.
  22. Maybe a different game? That half of a project that Feargus mentioned?
  23. Finally playing BioShock 2. The whole storytelling via voices either through speakers or casette players is kinda overdone and I've probably missed half of it since I don't bother to stop and listen to the tapes. Even though it is the remastered version it is feeling a bit clunky and old. Well at least I think I'm about halfway through already.
  24. How does it compare to Eastside Hockey Manager?
  25. Okay, so some feedback finally on the survey since there was no open comments section on the actual survey. Hopefully Eric reads this thread as well as Reddit No actually meaningful Day 1 DLC. I don't mind skin/weapon/cosmetic packs as pre-order bonus. But actual content on day 1 seems to me like an option to extort your customers to buying the game as pre-order. Case in point BioWare and Dragon Age games. While the actual content was just fine and did add a cool companion to the game, it always felt like a method of either forcing you to pre-order or pay extra right afterwards when you realized that you actually enjoy the game enough to pay for DLC content. If you do have a pre-order bonus, you still need to have that available for those who didn't pre-order with a reasonable price. Do not sell something that belongs to the game as a DLC. For example Blood&Gore pack for Total War: Warhammer. It's 3 euros, but it's still something that should have been in the game to begin with. Horse Armors, Portrait packs etc. Please, just don't. While it might give you an extra buck or two, it's still kinda cheap way to do business. There's more to lose than to gain as company if you start releasing trivial stuff. Under no circumstances should you actually promote your DLCs within the game. BioWare lost me when they started having NPC's promoting their DLCs with ! -marks. I don't need to be spoon fed commercials when I'm playing. No loot crates or other ways to help the player beat the game as long as he/she/unicorn just pays the amount asked. Please don't go full Paradox mode either. While it might work for their hardcore fans who play 1000 hours of their games, it doesn't work for me. I have so much to play and when there's always a new DLC just around the corner to be released, it's hard to get back into the game to play those DLC's you've actually bought. I just don't have the time to spend hundreds of hours on just one game. Season passes are tricky. I don't think I've bought any ever. You really need to be open about what you will get if you pay for a season pass. Pricing should be based on the actual content, not based on the original game. **** me over once and I will never pay for any season passes. I'd rather get one larger DLC/expansion pack than many smaller ones, naturally though it depens on the game. For NWN2, Mask of the Betrayer was perfect. It continued the story and made the game so much better. For New Vegas the smaller and different than your original game were fine. I liked how even though they were seperate there was still the story of Ulysses in the background. I disliked the fact that White March was split into two parts. While I understand the reasoning behind it, I think it hurt the reviews for the DLC and it was quite hard get back to the game once 2nd part finally came out. I haven't played Tyranny's DLC yet, but from what I've read it offers more of the same, Oldwalls and the same enemies. I understand it's most likely a budgeting issue and up to Paradox, but as the customer I expect the DLC to add plenty to the game and not just more of the same. While the quests for your companions are fine addition, new enemies and locales would make the DLC much easier to get into. On pricing... I think the 10 dollars? for each New Vegas DLC was perfect. I don't mind paying more if I know there is enough content.
