  1. Aside from the whole Triss thing, I do really prefer how The Witcher 2 did it. Mass Effect made me realize that I don't particularly care for between game C&C. 1) Because they keep bringing back the same 10 people, even though you're a world away. 2) Because I can't trust them for the rest of it, anyway. The small things they can manage to keep changed make the setting feel smaller. The larger things they can't afford to change for locking content out. Perfect example is Dragon Age 2 with Lelianna. There was some ruffled feathers about how she could have died in Origins, but showed in in 2 anyway. And the only thing I could think about is that it wouldn't have mattered if they hadn't had her pop up in Kirkwall, period.
  2. Defrosted a freezer at work today. Was amazed to find an ice cube tray afterwards.
  3. That doesn't happen now? Not to the same degree. And it's not considered typical when it does occur. I played through the PS2 Prince of Persia games pretty recently, then did Forgotten Sands. The cameras and cheapness of enemies is simply not comparable. Even Super Mario 64 had a camera that wouldn't be tolerated today.
  4. Force Unleashed felt like a PS2 game. Or even PS1. Back in the days where cameras could suck and enemies could be cheap. And I still found it charming.
  5. Doing a Recruit run of Alpha Protocol. Playing as a sarcastic jackadoodle. Stealth and SMGs. Stealth when he can, goes nuts when he can't.
  6. Just saying. October 2013 is a long way away. I'll probably have been killed in a freak skydiving accident while fighting against communists by that time. Or the Nabiru collision. But seriously, I hope that's enough time. If they're able to get the jump straight into content, good luck to them.
  7. You ever see one of those glowing blue crystals? That will revive and restore everyone.
  8. Dragon's Dogma has the ability to set yourself on fire, then jump on the enemy's back. There's no way for me to not be excited.
  9. Spent $100 more than I wanted to spend on a TV. And it's not even larger than I wanted.
  10. Cabin in the Woods Not very scary, but still very good. It felt like SCP: The Movie.
  11. See I didn't get that at all from any of the endings. The series makes a point to tell you that galactic civilization is only possible because of the relays.Arrival makes a point to tell you that destroying relays destroys the system they are in. And there is nothing anywhere in the franchise, let alone in Mass Effect 3 or its ending, to indicate that the ending is a special circumstance. I can totally understand not getting that out of the ending. Because the ending itself doesn't give you anything to get. But with information the series has provided elsewhere, it's a very bad day. This information from elsewhere being the only information available to parse it with.
  12. I don't know. I'm onboard with Double Fine Adventure, Banner Saga, Wasteland 2, and Shadowrun. And I'm waiting to see if Obsidian does it. I feel overloaded in futures.
  13. I dunno. Ending galactic civilization and maybe ending all life in the known galaxy seems like a misstep, regardless of how hard your medium is to work with.
  14. It very quickly ended up as my number 3 most played game on Steam. Below Team Fortress 2 and Dragon Age Origins, but right above Fallout New Vegas. I'm surprised at how much time I spent with it, really.
  15. Legend of Grimrock Did not think I'd enjoy it half as much as I am. The pacing is definitely not bad. It's good to have the tension about whether a battle is coming up. And the puzzles are well thought out.
  16. When my dad started shaving his head, he said it was to look like Bruce Willis. That's probably the reason Bruce Willis shaves his, too. Edit: Other news. http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/abrash/ Valve is also investigating wearable computing.
  17. USB Dog Tag. That is the most beautiful feelie I have seen in years.
  18. He also mentioned Aliens in passing. Apparently it had dialogue system that "was designed never to take you out of the world." Which is exactly what I've been asking from the industry for a while. There's an exchange in there that reveals Chris has an idea for a Planescape campaign. When pressed he doesn't want to spoil it.
  19. I'm on the verge of caving too. I don't much care for hack and slash, but if the pacing isn't Diablo and the puzzles are intelligent, I might have fun.
  20. I'm not familiar with East of Eden. From the context here, it seems to be contrasted against personal stories. Torment's story was about the Nameless One, so it wouldn't be an epic. Dragon Age Origins was about a time of change for Ferelden. If I were to marry the concepts of Epic Poetry and epic as used in this thread, I'd simply ask the question "when it's over, do the common people tell their children about it?"
  21. Epic poetry is a genre. http://en.wikipedia....iki/Epic_poetry Applying it beyond just poetry seems to work. Film has it, apparently. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Film Why not narratives in general, including that of games?
  22. http://www.gamasutra...ortem_Waves.php I love postmortems, so I'm posting it. Waves is an indie game that sold 15k. A full 96% of his sales were from Steam. I wonder if that's a good conversion rate from the demo.
  23. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/s81zu/rpg_fireside_chat_with_brian_fargo_and_chris/ That's the link for it.
