Why everyone should be light side
Catalyst replied to huey27's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It says in the game at some point that the Republic strike force disabled Revan's shields so that the Jedi could board the ship. And while Malak had the IQ of a rotting cheese sandwich I'm sure he had other positive character attributes. We just haven't come across them yet. This mental disablitity seems to be enthusiatically copied by the majority of the Sith you meet in the game. Maybe they just wanted to be like their Sith Master. Set your sights low I guess... -
If you have the PC version or have Xbox Live then you can buy the two crystals from the merchant at Yavin Spacestation once you have collected all the Star Maps, but before you go to the Unknown World. Before you can buy them there is some fighting on the spacestation, so don't expect to just walk up there alone and get them immediately. The two crystals are Mantle of the Force (light blue/turquoise) and Heart of the Guardian (orange). Aswell as providing two extra colours they also enhance all the properties of the other crystals in your lightsaber.

I like the symetry of the names (ROTJ and ROTS). Good title for a hopefully great film. Thanks for the links kumquatq3 and Darth Sun Tzu.

Questions the the Devs - Take 2
Catalyst replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Are only the Darkside choices being improved, or are the Lightside and morally grey areas also being improved (branching off from the stereotypical 'goody-two-shoes' thing all Lightside Jedi seemed to have going in the first game)? -
I'm sure I've heard a similar story before....

Why cannibalistic Gizkas? Is Bastila a Gizka? It would explain a lot.....

Questions the the Devs - Take 2
Catalyst replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The loading screens will give little snippets of information, mostly related to the area you are entering or the planet you're on. -
Glad you appreciated it You could argue that Luke turned Vader (the apprentice) against Palpatine (the master) and that caused the fall of the Empire. But thats really off topic, and I'm sure theres a thread somewhere in these boards arguing over who caused the fall of the Empire... *goes to find thread*

I don't think the names of the Sith have any special relavence, except maybe to sound ominous  Otherwise Dooku is named 'Great Lizard' or something....

Isn't this poll a bit premature? We don't know anything about that white-haired chick, we're not even sure about her name.

Like some dark temptress? I suppose it could work, but Obsidian would have to work hard to come up with a viable 'evil' feel to her, to avoid creating a petty version of a Sith Lord (sry, Lady). It would be too easy to create just an 'evil' version of Bastila, who everyone seems to hate.

The graphical issues are all down to the engine and whether or not the ideas are feasible. I'd like to see a less linear storyline, better character development, improved alignment choices, and generally more choice. Aside from that I'm happy with whatever Obsidian chooses to add, remove or doctor.

Please make KOTOR 2 longer!
Catalyst replied to SteveMcCool's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The game lasted me no more than 30 hours (estimate) with all the side quests completed. The linear aspect of the game cut down on a lot of time that could have been spent developing your own character and playing a more personal game. The quest lengths were about right, but as I said before, the linear quality of the game did little to maximise the 'personal' potential of your character and the game as a whole. That said, KotOR is one of - if not my favourite - game, and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline in particular. Modifications to the linear (or not so linear) aspect of TSL would greatly improve both the quality and play time of the game. -
Don't Penalize the independent!
Catalyst replied to sandman1347's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
In the end KotOR's character alignment and responses connected with this didn't have the scope many people (includiny myself) hoped for. It would have been interesting to see a morally grey Force user who answered to no-one stop the progress of an inter-galactic war, and then disappear. I like the idea of 'grey players' having bonuses on universal force abilities, as both light and dark gain bonuses for their particularly alignment, and there is a wider scope of useable powers, whilst not affecting the alignment of the character when used properly (not focusing on dark or light side powers). -
Bastila was far too important a part of KotOR 1 to just vanish without a mention, but she shouldn't come back as a party NPC. She didn't annoy me as much as she seems to annoy a lot of other people, but maybe thats because I have to put up with people like her every day She deserves at least a mention as aprt of the backstory, maybe a cinematic appearance.

I have to agree. Sidious merely took advantage of the circumstances at the time. Not once has he shown any ability that sets him apart from the other Sith Lords. Force Storm? Big deal, even Dooku can pull that off. Manipulation? I thought that is what a great many Sith were experts at. Destroyed the Republic? Yes, he did. And his 'Galactic Empire' lasted no more than 20 years, and was brought crashing down by a farm boy with a bowl haircut.

Moon-walking Terentateks

LOL... It was like some stupid pop-song dance... -
It seems to me that Anakin must have the most potential of any Force-user or this 'Chosen One' thing is just pointless. Also, are we talking about raw power or skill here? Yoda is without a doubt the most impressive Jedi I have encountered, despite Anakin's supposed potential, but isn't the Lightside supposed to take time and patience, where as the Darkside is supposed to be the easy and quick route to power? I'm sure that if Anakin was given 700 years or more to study and practice the disciplines of the Jedi he would far outstrip even Yoda. Also, the effect of the Darkside weakened the Jedi in the waning years of the Old Republic and the time of the Empire. For the Sith, there are several candidates: Exar Kun, Marka Ragnos, Darth Bane, Darth Sidious, etc. Exar Kun and Marka Ragnos both ruled the Sith openly and had to face the challenges presented by the Jedi's awareness of the Sith threat at the time. Darth Bane kept the Sith order alive, and was the only Sith to survive the decimation of the Darkside ranks, and although he operated in a far less open manner than Kun and Ragnos, he must also have been an powerful Sith Lord in his own right. Darth Sidious is much like Bane, however during his time as Dark Lord of the Sith the Jedi were severely weak compared to the threat they had posed to the Sith in older times, and the corruption of the Old Republic was a God-send as far as the Sith's ultimate plan was concerned. Sidious did bring the Republic down, but his reign lasted only 20 years, and all his attributes that stood out were not particularly rare among the Sith Lords. This is my long-winded way of saying it all depends on cicumstances (and I can't make up my mind).
